Reconciliation is a priority for our organisation and inclusive of all the work we do. We recognise and respect that we are living and creating on Aboriginal Lands in South Australia and we are committed to working together to honour the living cultures of First Nations peoples.

We aim to increase respect, understanding and equality of opportunity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and the wider communities in which we work through partnership, dialogue and action.

We believe the arts have an important role to play in reconciliation. By promoting the culture of First Nations peoples through our touring productions, exhibitions and cultural development activities, we strive to increase understanding and knowledge within the wider community. Through a program of education and cultural sharing activity for staff we will increase awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in our organisation and enable our staff to share that knowledge with the wider community.

PRESENTED BY COUNTRY ARTS SA AND SYDNEY DANCE COMPANY—

CHOREOGRAPHY BY RAFAEL BONACHELA, ALEXANDER EKMAN AND LARISSA MCGOWAN

Directed by Rafael Bonachela, Artistic Director of Sydney Dance Company, Emergence features the alluring costume creations of Australian fashion designer Dion Lee and an inspiring collaboration between internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko and composer Nick Wales.

Irreverent, humorous and brilliant, Cacti is the critically acclaimed brainchild of Swedish dance prodigy Alexander Ekman. Cacti is not only a subversive, entertaining commentary on the pretentions of contemporary dance, it is also a brilliantly conceived and bracingly physical piece of choreography.

From South Australian rising star Larissa McGowan comes Fanatic, a hilarious pop-culture collision that pits Alien vs Predator in an interstellar dance throwdown between two sci-fi film franchises. This is dance for the digital age – kinetic, immediate and exceedingly funny.

The golden girl of country Beccy Cole and critically acclaimed cabaret and jazz performer Libby O’Donovan take their audience on a journey of intertwining genres, swapping songs, sharing stories and breaking musical stereotypes.

The fusion of these two sassy, funny, engaging and explosive entertainers is a match made on a stage in heaven.

Individually, these talented women have been known to leave an audience breathless. From Cole’s energetic humour and honesty to O’Donovan’s diverse and astonishingly rich vocal range, these two singer/songwriters play to each other’s strengths on stage.

After wowing sellout crowds by guesting on each other’s shows at Tamworth, Sydney Mardi Gras, Barossa Vintage Festival, Woodford and Port Fairy Folk Festivals and tours across regional Australia, they will present an unforgettable performance in The Cowgirl and The Showgirl.

Back to Broadway recalls the great era of romantic music, colourful costumes, and a chorus of dancers and singers.

Both Irving Berlin and Cole Porter enjoyed that great period, not only with musicals such as Annie get your Gun, Top Hat, Easter Parade, Can Can and High Society but the countless hit songs of the day, which remain just as popular as ever.

In a cast of five, John Lidgerwood introduces new and exciting young Australian professionals to the stage.

The Confidence

Man

PRESENTED BY COUNTRY ARTS SA—

BY ZOE PEPPER AND ADRIANE DAFF TOUR PRODUCED BY PERFORMING LINES

Created by award winning company Side Pony Productions, director Zoe Pepper brings you a new interactive audio experience, placing the audience at the centre of the action.

You’re invited to step onto the floor into this gripping thriller to experience first-hand the sordid betrayal and moral philandering that’s about to smother this suburban dream.

Equipped with masks and headsets, six audience members navigate the space, experiencing the show in the first person. Those who prefer to watch can survey the action from the perimeter, and choose who they want to follow using a personal console to toggle between the audio of different characters.

The Confidence Man is a morally complex tale complete with goodies, baddies, and a dose of good old-fashioned psychotic menace.

WHEN A LARGE SPORTS BAG FULL OF CASH IS BROUGHT INTO PETER’S VERY ORDINARY HOME, HIS FAMILY IS CAUGHT UP IN A SINISTER AND DISTURBING CHAIN OF EVENTS.

Spend the night with the definitive seductress of the stage as she weaves her deliciously wicked wiles through one of Expressions Dance Company’s most loved productions.

Performed to Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin’s gripping Carmen Suite by six EDC dancers, this iconic tale of Spanish heat and gypsy passion unravels when naïve soldier Don José has his heart ignited by the fiery Carmen.

José’s attempts to tame the freedom-loving beauty are futile, and when she leaves him for the famous matador Escamillo, all three are engulfed in the flames of jealousy and revenge in this contemporary adaptation of ballet.

Produced by Expressions Dance Company and Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Natalie Weir’s Carmen Sweet is a free spirit; dangerous, volatile and vulnerable, brought to vivid life by three dancers playing her different states of mind and alter egos.

With the instantly recognisable music of Tchaikovsky and the classic story of good vs evil, Swan Lake is one of the most famous and loved of all ballets. Artistic director Evgeny Amosov’s production for The Russian National Ballet Theatre takes the glamour of the Russian Imperial world’s palace ballroom and combines it with the haunting moonlit lakeside which is perfect for the tragic conflict of the human and spirit worlds.

The central role of Odette/Odile is one of the most testing for any ballerina especially in portraying both the vulnerability of Odette the white swan and the predatory duplicity of Odile the black swan.

This is one of the finest and most loved works in the entire Russian National Ballet Theatre repertory.

In 1977, Robyn Davidson (Mia Wasikowska) embarked on a 3200km trek from Alice Springs to the West Australian Coast with four camels and her faithful dog Diggity.

An adventurous outsider, Robyn reluctantly accepts sponsorship from National Geographic magazine to follow her trek. She has to put up with the sporadic presence of photographer Rick (Adam Driver, Girls) but mostly she is alone with her animals in the outback.

Based on Robyn’s memoirs chronicling her nine-month journey, director John Curran filmed Tracks predominantly in the Flinders Ranges, SA.

BONUS SHORT FILM The Telegram Man 14 mins

Starring Australian screen legends Jack Thompson, Gary Sweet and Sigrid Thornton, James Khehtie’s award-winning The Telegram Man explores the impact of World War II on a close-knit Australian farming community.

The Telegram Man contains no coarse language, violence or sex scenes. The film has been screened to a crowd of more than 16,000 people just prior to the Dawn Service at the 2012, 2013 and 2014 ANZAC Day Commemorations in Gallipoli, and will be screened at the 2015 Centenary Commemoration.

TATIARA ART PRIZE 19 OCTOBER – 30 NOVEMBER 2015 The prize, offered by the Tatiara District Council, is based and exhibited at Bordertown’s Walkway Gallery but open to Australian artists nationwide. The winning artist will receive the Tatiara Art Prize of $10,000, and their work will be acquired by the Tatiara District Council. An additional $5,000 in prize money is up for grabs with young, youth, local and the People’s Choice categories. Entry forms available from 20 March 2015 from [email protected].

SHIFTING CONNECTIONS: KATHLEEN MUNN, JAN CLIFFORD AND BILL CLIFFORD 4 SEPTEMBER – 9 OCTOBER 2015 Long before the civilizations of Europe came of age the Australian landscape was nurtured and understood. European settlers tended to misunderstand this ancient land; to overlook its subtleties and do violence to its fragilities. Understanding the land requires a certain way of looking. Essentially, it means paying attention to the small things we often fail to notice. Things like the natural objects that form the subject of this exhibition with work formed with textiles, natural fibres, paintings, drawings and spoken words.

THE POST INTERNET

Imagine a place where you could access information, communicate with other people, form connections, find your community … you mean, the Internet? No - welcome to The Post Internet. post, Sydney-based performance company, with technologist Josh Mu are creating a new Internet from scratch, made entirely from face-to-face conversations. After initial development in the UK, they are now entering Phase Two: Mount Gambier. Think of it as an analogue internet. post will invite local artists to share their stories, expressed in any form, which will create the new Internet and a show semi-devised in front of your very eyes in the most high tech way they know how: VHS recorders, overhead projectors, and etch-a-sketches. Hilarity will ensue. We guarantee it.

DanceXtend

Country Arts SA is excited to announce an exceptional dance program for the Limestone Coast. DanceXtend’s curator, South Australia’s own Larissa McGowan, will offer dance experiences in unusual spaces and places around the region. This travelling exploration of our everyday connection to dance and movement will manifest itself in wonderful ways, when you least expect it and you be involved in all manner of ways. Stay connected via Facebook to find out more about the experiences and DanceXtend’s activities in connection with Sydney Dance Company’s De Novo and Expression Dance Company’s Carmen Sweet. “Dance is essentially defined by movement of the body - the smallest to the largest movements can be understood as dance. Dance is an act or art form which we all engage with, even if we are not aware of it.”
