A Tribute to a Legend Carrie L. Williamson
On November 22, 2014, Cape Assist, the Healthy Community Coalition and the entire Wildwood Com-munity lost one of our strongest advocates in the field of substance abuse prevention. Born in South Caro-lina in 1942, Carrie spent 18 years working for the Wildwood Housing Authority before retiring in 2001. Retirement did not slow Carrie down, she jumped head first into new projects. As a founding board member for Cape Assist Carrie reentered the volun-teer world serving on the Healthy Community Coali-tion Board and running the PALS program for the Wildwood Municipal Alliance. Realizing her passion and strong ability for bridging the gap between pre-vention and the faith based sector, Carrie was hired to be the Faith Based Coordinator for Cape Assist. Soon that was not enough for such a strong deter-mined women. Carrie became certified to teach the Strengthening Families Program and it was working with the struggling women in the program that Carrie realized more needed to be done to build up these women. She founded People of Purpose and for the next 5 years served as an inspiration and support sys-tem for women helping them increase self esteem and self worth, realize their potential and attain GEDs, college degrees, start their own business and for some completely change their lives. Carrie was a dear friend and role model to many of staff at Cape Assist. She enjoyed every moment that life offered her. Her memory will live one forever in the people whose lives she touched. The times we shared can never be forgotten and her wisdom will continue to be handed down in the field of substance abuse prevention.
“When I can’t reach you I hug you in my prayers.”
