Selection Process for a New Principal:

The Catholic Education Office Toowoomba uses a set of industrially sound process-

es for the employment of a Principal of a school.

The process is as follows:

1. The position is advertised in the media with a closing date on which applica-

tions will be accepted. This is next Monday for our School Principal Advertise-

ment.

2. The senior education officer for the school then consults with the Parish Priest,

the Board (if there is one), the school staff and the parent body in the form of

the P & F Executive to find out the qualities that they wish to see in a new lead-

er of the school. This has already been completed this week.

3. Once applications have been received, a process of short listing takes place,

referees are checked and a short list of candidates are selected for interview.

4. A panel is then formed which usually consists of the Parish Priest, 2 members

of the P & F Executive, the Director of School Improvement Services, The Ex-

ecutive Director and the Senior Education Officer.

5. Once interviews have taken place, a candidate is selected by the panel who

recommends a person for the position and the Bishop of Toowoomba then ap-

proves the appointment. An administration process then takes place which

can take up to two weeks before any announcement is made to the school

community. During this time, all information about the appointment is kept

strictly confidential, until the announcement is made to the community by the

Executive Director of Catholic Education.

6. This process takes place in all schools when a new principal is appointed,

with no exceptions.

P&F NEWS BUSH DANCE The P&F would like to thank the staff of St Frannies for organising the Bush Dance. A special thank you to Mr & Mrs Drysdale for organising and cooking the camp oven dinner – it was deli-cious! The children spent a lot of time practising their dances and everyone who attended had an enjoyable evening dancing with their children to the Ridgee Didge Bush Band and catching up with friends. Thank you to Mr Spranklin for teaching the dances.

TUCKSHOP We are pleased to announce that we have found a new Tuckshop Convener. We welcome, and thank Anna Marks for taking on this role. Tuckshop will resume in Term 4.

SCHOOL MESSAGE BOARD The decision for the P&F to purchase and install a wind - up school message board was passed last year. The concept of the school message board was to provide a form of communication to parents and the wider community, in addition to the existing school newsletter. Over the past year, the school has introduced a text message service, communicating events and reminders to families. There have also been safety incidents with existing wind up message boards within Qld Catholic Dioceses. The P&F has therefore had to seek alternatives to the wind up sign. During the P&F meeting in August, some options were presented, however these were not favourable. The P&F therefore sought additional quotations which were presented at Wednesday evening’s P&F meeting. The options consisted of (1) removing and modifying the existing sign by extend-ing the poles and moving the sign up, powder coating the poles and installing a magnetic mes-sage board below the current sign and re-installing it; (2) having a stand-alone sign next to the original. Both options were going to cost approximately $4,000. We discussed these options and looked at where the signs might be placed and how they would look within the school grounds. We also discussed if we still required the sign, given the school now has the text mes-sage system in place. After careful consideration and deliberation, the P&F voted that we would not proceed with installing a school message board. The text messages are currently sent to parents of our school and the Newsletter is sent home to families and also available for the wider community online and at the Foodworks, Pharmacy and other local businesses. The P&F dis-cussed running an ad in the local paper once a month to notify the wider community of upcoming events and to promote the school in general. We thank everyone for their involvement over the past couple of months in obtaining quotes, taking photos and preparing visual signage options, talking to contractors in regards to modifying the existing sign and attending the meetings to help reach this outcome.

VOLUNTEERS THANK YOU – SAVE THE DATE To thank all our volunteers who have helped throughout the year, the P&F will hold a family day at Picnic Point on Sunday, 8

Please save the date. More information to follow.

th November at 6pm. All current P&F positions will
