some products stand out among the competition, but we may never lay claim to that moniker. After all, how does one define “best?”

Strongest? Lightest? Winningest? Most expensive? Prettiest? Fastest? Best functioning? Biggest selection? In truth, it’s probably a mix of all the above. But nothing is ever perfect.

As product designers and engineers, we strive to make products that hold up to a specific set of standards or that meet a particular need. What we do here at BOX is design, engineer and make high-performance BMX racing parts.

As the name implies, high-performance BMX racing bikes are designed to be raced at a high level. That means riding with speed and finesse. Racing is about winning. And winning requires that you remain upright.

BMX racing bikes and parts—BOX included—are not designed for crashing, colliding with obstacles or other riders, being dropped

from extreme heights, run over, or generally abused. While these do occur in the course of racing and training, BMX bikes and parts are not specifically designed to do these things. If they were, they’d be extremely heavy and cumbersome. Even then, not every bike or part would hold up to the many wondrous things people could find to do to them. As such, they should be maintained and checked regularly by a professional bicycle mechanic, particularly after a crash.

While we aren’t comfortable calling our parts “the best,” the 100-plus riders BOX sponsors truly are the best. In three years, BOX riders have won World Championships, National Championships and National Titles.

BOX is proud to name Factory Redline, Factory DK, Dutch National Team, Factory GT, Phoenix/BOX, Haro/Promax, J&R and the New Zealand National Team among the powerhouse teams we sponsor.

These truly are the best and they choose BOX Components.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE “THE BEST?” It’s hard to believe that BOX is only three years old. We started

designing products in January 2011 and didn’t ship anything until 10 months later. We hit our stride—product-wise—in late-2012. Even then, however, our inventories and supply lines were pretty light and not very deep.

Still, almost from Day-1, everywhere we went, people told us they “loved BOX Components.” Many told us BOX parts were the best in the world. Their words were flattering, to say the least, and it felt good to hear them again and again. But we knew we weren’t making the best stuff. Not yet, anyway.

Sure, making the best bicycle parts was, and is, our goal. But in reality, it’s a near-impossible goal to achieve. And we, in only our first year or two, knew we had a long way to go before we could claim to make the best parts or even offer the best of anything.

Not to brag, but we know we have some great ideas, innovative designs, nice packaging, a cool logo, outstanding racers and solid marketing. But just because “you” like what you’re doing doesn’t mean your audience will. To be successful at product design and brand building, you have to know and understand your audience and what their needs are—even when they don’t know themselves.

What we have tried to do over the past three years is build and improve on what we have learned over our many years riding and racing bikes and designing bike parts. Using that knowledge and experience, we believe we have created one of the most innovative and comprehensive lines of high-end BMX racing parts in the history of the sport, and in the process, delivered a bunch of stuff our audience likes. That’s a big claim. And one we don’t make easily. But we are confident it’s more than hyperbole.

That said, no one at CGI is comfortable yet calling BOX parts, “the best.” We’re proud of what we’ve done here and we believe

Maximus HandlebarsEvery rider we work with who rides the Maximus handle bar

with a BOX or Promax 31.8 stem said they immediately noticed a huge improvement in cockpit stiffness and felt a more positive pull out of the gate with less flex while cornering and jumping. All have been impressed with how much stiffer the set-up is compared to traditional bars and stems.

Custom made from 4130 chromoly, the bars feature a proprietary 13-butted taper from 22.2 Ø at the grip area to a massive 31.8 Ø across the lower flat. They are available in five rises with a black powder coated finish. The 5.5-, 8- and 8.5-inch sizes also are available in chrome.

Maximus bars are 28.25 inches wide and have 7 degrees of back-sweep and 2 degrees of up-sweep. Meets or exceeds ENBMX Category 1 standards. They fit stems with a 31.8 clamp diameter. MSRP: Black: $99; Chrome: $119

Delta StemWhen used with Maximus chromoly handlebars, the Delta

stem creates the stiffest cockpit available. The added stiffness significantly improves bike handling while putting more power into your pedal stroke.

This isn’t just hype. Every rider we work with who rides the Delta/Maximus set-up said they noticed a major improvement in stiffness and were impressed with the more-positive pull they get on the bars as they get out of the gate, cornering and jumping.

Available with 48-, 53- and 60-millimeter extensions in four anodized colors. Meets or exceeds ENBMX Category 1 standards. Delta stems only fit handlebars with a 31.8 clamp diameter. Now with larger M7 bolts. MSRP: $99

Extremum RacePrep™ Bottom BracketFor years, pro BMX racers have modified their bottom brackets

by removing the seals and replacing the grease with oil. This results in free-spinning cranks, but also significantly shortens the life of bottom brackets.

The Extremum RacePrep™ bottom bracket is the first external BB designed for BMX racing. Unlike mountain biking where bikes are exposed mud and water, BMX racers typically ride in relatively clean environments. Dust not withstanding.

The Extremum RacePrep™ bottom bracket features non-contact, titanium-coated SUS bearings, modified low-friction seals and lightweight lube. The titanium coating results in a low friction coefficient, increased corrosion resistance and smoother rolling bearings. The result is a BB with less drag and a level of bearing protection more in line with the needs of BMX racers.

Available in anodized red, blue, gold and black to fit all 24-millimeter bottom bracket spindles and 68 or 73 x BC1.37” bottom bracket shells.

Extremum RacePrep™ bottom brackets may require more frequent maintenance, depending on your riding habits. Meets or exceeds ENBMX standards. MSRP: $99

Limted-Edition Color Parts Kits NEWStarting in this summer, BOX is offering Parts Kits in four Limited

Edition Parts colors. Each kit includes BOX 108 Eclipse brakes with color-matched X-Ray brake pads, BOX Long Genius brake lever, BOX Delta stem, BOX Helix QR seat clamp and a front/rear set of BOX 20 x 1.75 Focus rims.

Only 200 sets of each color will be made and sold worldwide. Colors will be introduced approximately three months apart with the first hitting the market in July.

The first color will be BOX Orange, as used by Marc Willers and Jelle Van Gorkom. The color first appeared on some of the first BOX prototype components way back in 2011. People loved

it. And since it’s our corporate color, we thought it was as good a color as any to start with.

In October, we will offer the parts kit in fuchsia in time for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Marc Willers and Merle Van Benthem used parts this color at Worlds. During the USA BMX Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, we will auction off Marc Willers’ personal Worlds bike and a custom jersey he raced in between Louisville and Grands. Proceeds from the auction will go to a cancer charity. More info on this to come.

In January, we will release a parts kit in a color we call gun metal. It’s basically a dark grey. Plenty masculine, but with more character than basic black. Marc Willers will start racing on this parts group at Grands.

Purple will hit in March, just in time for spring. We developed this color for Sarah Walker, who unveiled her custom color-matched bike at the GSX/UCI World Cup in Berlin. Felicia Stancil, Alise Post and Laura Smulders are also riding it.

MSRP: BOX is selling the parts as full kits but allowing bike shops to sell the kits complete to separately. MSRP for the complete kit is $419. Individual parts, when available, have the same MSRP as standard color parts.
