THE CITY

The beating heart of Agadir around which everything revolves is its spectacular crescent shaped bay. The whitesandy beach, which stretches for as far as the eye can see,provides some of the safest bathing in Morocco and is thedaytime destination for most visitors.

Whether it is soaking up the sun, taking a camel ride or catching some waves, the beach provides something forall tastes. Tracing the curve of the bay is Boulevard 20Aout, Agadir’s main thoroughfare along which you will ndmany of its exclusive hotels and beachside resorts and ahost of cafés, bars and restaurants.

One block from here, you will nd the city´s main shoppingarea, centred on Boulevard Hassan II and Avenue duPrince Moulay Abdullah. Further inland is the area of NewTalborjt, where most of Agadir’s budget accommodation isto be found.

To get a taste of the hustle and bustle of old Agadir, head down to the port where you can watch the shermen bringin the daily catch, head out to the souk and do a spot ofbartering, or trek up to the remains of the 16th-centuryKasbah and take in the spectacular sights of the bay.

Agadir Beach

Kasbah

Built in 1540, all that remains of the old Kasbah are the fortied walls, however, the trip up the hill to this historicsite is worth it for the view alone.

Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Agadir’s walled souk and get ready to barter for your souvenirs! A"souk" is a term of a central, local market in an Arabic cityselling spices, textiles and jewellery.

If you take a taxi to the Souk al-Had you should ask for it by name, since some taxi drivers take you to their ownpersonal souk. You recognize the real souk by its ochrewall and the numbered gates.

Al-Massira Airport

Al-Massira Airport is located 28 km from the centre. To get to and from the airport you can take bus or taxi.

Local bus number 22 goes from the airport to Inezgane, a suburb to Agadir, The last bus leaves at 20.30 and thefare is 4 Dirham. From Inezgane to Agadir city centre youcan take bus number 20, 24 or 28 and the cost for thatticket is 3 Dirham. If you rather take a shared taxi it willcost you the same.

A taxi from the airport to Agadir costs approximately 200 Dirham. The trip takes about 20 minutes.

It is also possible to hire a vehicle from any of the car rentals at the airport.

Public Transport

The central parts of Agadir are walk-able, but if you are tired there are plenty of local buses to take you to nearbybeaches or suburbs of the city. Remember to have coinsto pay the ticket since the driver doesn't carry a lot ofchange. The fare is 5-10 Dirhams.

The main local bus station is located next to the main grand taxi rank at the south end of Rue de Fes, approx. 20minutes drive from the city centre. It is very usual toarrive at Inezgane though, which is the bus hub of theregion.

Taxi

By far the easiest and quickest way to get around town is by the cream-coloured Grand taxi or the orange Petit taxi.You nd them either from the taxi rank at the South end ofRue de Fes or Rue Yacoub el-Mansour in New Talborjt orby hailing one o the street.

The Petit taxis are only allowed to drive inside the city. TheGrand taxis only take at least 6 passengers, but you canalso pay extra and hire the whole taxi. Fares are chargedon the meter or discussed in advance.
