GKMAF Chief Instructors Are Elected

The GKMAF carefully selects its Chief Instructors from the Shihankai, based on the individual’s expe-

rience, strength and integrity. This is an advantage, since many karate organizations with a strong

founding leader pass on their leadership position to an inheritor once the master is gone. The inher-

itor may be a weak leader, and so the organization begins to lose its way, and eventually may even

disappear. There is no such danger at the GKMAF; because the Chief Instructors are always elected

by the Executive Council Board, they are always ready to give all to its strong / best leaders. The

GKMAF is far better organized than most other karate groups, and with its strong democratic tradi-

tion it has a staying power that few others can match: the GKMAF is forever.

KARATE FOR CHILDREN

Karate for children is not only fun, it provides many important

benefits to young people. Some of these benefits are referred to in

Japanese as chiiku (mental development), tokuiku (moral develop-

ment) and taiiku (physical development). These are the same three classes of personal develop-

ment found in traditional educational systems.

In terms of chiiku (mental development), karate helps build concentration, focus, clear thinking

and decisiveness.

Karate has strong internal benefits as well. It helps instill patience, discipline, perseverance, un-

derstanding and open-mindedness. It builds confidence, develops self-control and increases

calmness, courtesy and peace—all of which will aid everyone in every endeavor they undertake

in life. These correspond to tokuiku (moral development).

Of course, karate is good for the body, too (taiiku). Physically it is excellent for the heart, builds

strong bones and bigger muscles, creates resilience, and makes the body less susceptible to sick-

ness and injury.

In all these ways, karate is profoundly helpful to young people in dealing with the many challeng-

es facing them in today’s society. It brings them balance and perspective at an age when these

are needed most. It adds a strong foundation to their character.

NOTE: Other karate organizations often allow children as young as five or six years old start kumite

(sparring). But at the GKMAF, so as to avoid the possibility of injury, no sparring is allowed until the child is ten

years old and in the fifth grade.

十倉七味切ラス JuLonnah Nixon 1st Degree Black Belt

My name is JuLonnah Nixon and I am currently 13 years old. So, it

has been about 12 to 13 years of being a part of the Martial Arts. At first

I have to admit I just thought of it as simply playing with my grandfather.

He and my father inspired and showed me karate. But, as I got older I

started to realize that the simple kick he always asked me to do was a

front kick(Mageri). Then from there it turned into training every sum-

mer. It was always my sister, Grandpa, and I but we started to go to the

Dojo. I wasn’t use to working out with others, but I got use it and began

increase my skills. Days turned into months and so on. I even went to

tournaments and perform at banquets increasing my confidence. I con-

tinuously trained and began to turn into the person I am today. Every-

thing’s not easy and no one’s perfect but if you stay focus and deter-

mined you’ll succeed. I know I have a lot to learn and I am ready for the

challenge.

十倉七味切ラス De’Jah Nixon 1st Degree Black Belt

My name is De'Jah Nixon I am 15 years old. And I do martial arts.

When I started it was fun and games I did not see the importance of

it ,I saw myself acting like Bruce lee and Shonuff from the last dragon

and any other ninja or spy type person. It wasn’t until the training

got serious that I realize how much work had to be put in the disci-

pline and focus that I had to learn to even get this far in rank. I re-

member all the pain that I went through not just physically but men-

tally I had to break down my and realize mind over matter and to this

day I am still breaking it down to become stronger. And even though

I am getting up there in belts I still have so much to learn and over-

come.

TWENTY PRECEPTS OF KARATE

1) Never forget: karate begins with rei and ends with rei (Rei means courtesy or respect, and is represented in

karate by bowing)

2) There is no first attack in karate

3) Karate supports righteousness

4) First understand yourself, then understand others

5) The art of developing the mind is more important than the art of applying technique

6) The mind needs to be freed

7) Trouble is born of negligence

8) Do not think karate belongs only in the dojo

9) Karate training requires a lifetime

10) Transform everything into karate; therein lies its exquisiteness

11) Genuine karate is like hot water; it cools down if you do not keep on heating it

12) Do not think of winning; you must think of not losing

13) Transform yourself according to the opponent

14) The outcome of the fight depends on one’s control

15) Imagine one’s arms and legs as swords

16) Once you leave the shelter of home, there are a million enemies

17) Postures are for the beginner; later they are natural positions

18) Do the kata correctly; the real fight is a different matter

19) Do not forget control of the dynamics of power, the elasticity of the body and the speed of the technique

20) Always be good at the application of everything that you have learned.
