Safety and Student Expectations

This slide show does not take the place of reading the handbook. The Student-Parent Handbook can be found under the parent tab at www. hipponation.org

Review the 4 different emergencies and the students’ actions for each one

In case of a Fire/Fire Drill: This is our Evacuation Plan

1. Stop what you are doing and line up at the door.

2. Quietly and safely walk out of the classroom, leaving everything behind. (Stay in a line)

3. Exit the school from the nearest outside doors to your classroom. (Follow the evacuation map)

4. Walk outside and cautiously get away from any danger.

5. Quietly stay with your class.

6. Wait for your teacher’s instructions.

Tardy Policy

Restarts at semester

1-3 tardies = warning (free)

4-5 tardies = Lunch Detention

6-7 tardies = 1 hour after-school detention

8+ tardies = 2 hour after-school detention for each tardy

Tardies are not by individual classes. If you are tardy 2 times in science, 1 time in math, and 1 time in ELA, you will have a lunch detention.

How to avoid being tardy…

• Walk and talk. This means you do not stop and talk with your friends in the hallway (number 1 reason for being tardy).

• Use the restroom in a hurry. 3 minutes is plenty of time to use the restroom, wash your hands and still make it to your classroom on time.

• No Running or Horse Playing in the halls.• Walk on the right side of the hall.

Cell Phones

• For safety purposes, the district permits students to possess cell phones; however, cell phones must remain turned off during the instructional day, not visible, including during all testing.

• The use of cell phones in all areas at any time during the instructional day is prohibited.

• Cellphones must be off and put up before the students enter the building until the day concludes at 3:40.

Confiscated Cell Phones

• Cell phones and cell phone accessories will remain in the vault until the $15 fee is paid by the parent. (Parents will be informed if a cell phone is taken into custody).

• If a student refuses to give up their cell phone, it is an automatic disciplinary referral in addition to the $15 fee & parental contact.

Attendance

State law requires students to come to school If you are absent more than three days in a four

We need and want you here! Your attendance matters to us and to your education!

If you are absent due to illness or other reasons beyond your control, please turn in a note to the front office explaining why you were absent within 48 hours of your return.

No Pass, No Play

A student who receives a grade below a 70 at the end of a six weeks grading period becomes ineligible and may not participate in extracurricular activities for at least three school weeks

Take care of business in the classroom, so you can enjoy all the awesome extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.

Make Up Work Policy

Due at the beginning of each class period

Is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements for any missed work Students are allowed 3 school days after

their return from an absence to complete make-up work for full credit.

If an absence is longer than 5 days, the teacher and student should make acceptable arrangements.

Pledge of Allegiance/Moment of Silence

Students will recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the US and the Texas flag each school day. *Parents may submit a written request to

excuse their child from reciting the pledges if so desired.

Following the pledges, students will participate in a moment of silence. Students are allowed to pray, meditate, or engage in other silent activities but may not interfere or distract others during the moment of silence.

Violation of School Bus Rules Students are expected to behave

and to follow the Student Code of Conduct at all times while on district transportation. Misconduct will be punished in

accordance with the Code of Conduct. Bus privileges could be suspended or

revoked for serious or persistent misconduct.
