FIDES

ANNUAL REPORT 2015- 2016

VISION: Fullness of life for all people.

MISSION: To ensure united and happy families by promoting health and

hygiene, empowering children, young people and women at all levels, and

promoting socio economic development.

OBJECTIVES:

To promote education for the less privileged through sponsorship

programme.

To organize and capacitate children, youth and women to realize their basic

socio economic development.

To promote Health and hygiene.

To offer skill Training for development and self employment.

To train women for Income generation programmes.

To promote legal literacy and eco – awareness.

To empower women through the formation of Self Help groups and

Women’s rights education.

To Empower young people with leadership training and value education

To Promote community heath especially in the areas of drug abuse and HIV

AIDS

To ensure health care and quality of life for everyone.

To instill saving habits.

To stop infant mortality and illiteracy

To form healthy individuals especially mothers.

To stop alcoholism, especially among men.

To ensure united and happy families.

DISTRIBUTION OF ADOPTION

More than 600 sponsored children of

FIDES received the educational help

from the beginning of June. Students

from Kaverinagar and Halasuru villages

along with the parents came to Sr.

Nancy memorial hall to receive the

amount. We also enlightened the

students and parents by giving them a

formative talk on the importance of education.

STAFF PICNIC

23rd June 2015, was a memorable day for the staff of FIDES. 8 staffs along with 2

sisters went for picnic. They enjoyed their trip in different tourist places and

especially at Hogenikal waterfalls. During picnic all could feel the happiness and

joy with the nature. It was an occasion to open up their creativity, interaction and

relationship building within the group. The group was led by Sr. Celine Maria

Selvam, and Sr. Sumi Joseph.

DB TECH

On 24th June, 3rd Batch of DB Tech was initiated with 30 students. In the absence

of trainers Sr. Sumi led the training as a basis for the trainers. It was a moment for

the trainers to be motivated to pursue certain tasks in their life.

PROVINCE LEVEL YOUTH MEETING

On July 10, 11 and 12th we had the

province level youth meeting for the

youth of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra,

Telangana. The venue was adorned with

around 300 youths. From FIDES 21

youths participated in Youth meeting.

The participants along with Sr.Sumi

prepared the exhibition and cultural

programmes based on the theme “Dare

and Dream like Don Bosco”. The effort

and the encouragement provided by

FIDES staffs to prepare the programmes and also to make the event a memorable

one paved the approach to its success. The programmes and the initiations taken by

the staffs and the students as a family were appreciated by everyone.

JULY 14TH - SR. NANCY’S DEATH ANNIVERSARY

All the people from our working area

remembered Sr.Nancy Pereira, the

foundress, of FIDES on the day of her

death Anniversary. They paid tribute to

her by offering prayers and sacrifices.

They decorated the tomb with flowers

and many people shared their experience and graces that they had received through

her intercession. Mr. Krishnappa with great gratitude and affection took part in the

function as a person who had worked with Sr. Nancy for many years. He

sponsored tiffinbox for the people of Kaverinagar and villages. There were around

400 people who came together to participate the anniversary.

DB TECH STUDENTS COMPETITION

On July 15 2015, 38 DB Tech

students of FIDES institution

celebrated “WORLD YOUTH

SKILL DAY”. Students had many

competitions which were held in

Sr. Nancy Memorial hall.

In the morning students had a guest

lecture by Mr.Devesh a final year

engineering student of KVBC

College. He gave a talk on the skill

each one has in them and how to

develop them. Students were inspired by his encouraging words and enjoyed the

class.

After the guest lecture painting competition was held in the hall. The theme for the

competition was “Nature”. Each one participated in the event and exhibited their

talents. After the event the paintings were displayed for the final judgment.

After the lunch break the event was followed by Speech competition. The students

were given 3 different topics to speak on. The topics were “Population in India,

Life in Bangalore and Women harassment”. Each one selected a topic of their

choice and spoke on it for 2 to 3 minutes.

The competition continued by the next event that was Essay writing. Everyone

took active part and wrote the essay on the topic “Pollution”. Each one expressed

their views on the environment pollution and the effects of pollution on the living

things.

The students were divided into two groups for the next event Debate. Students had

a debate on “whether college students should use mobiles or not”. The event was

very interesting because each one

had a point to share. Finally the

topic was concluded by saying that

using mobile is not wrong but

depends on how you use it.

The last event for the day was

“Model preparation”. Each one

displayed their models which were

made out of paper, plastic and

cardboard. Sisters of FMA convent

also participated in all the events to

encourage the students.

OLD AGE HOME FOR MRS.VENKATALAKSHAMAMMA

FIDES arranged to admit Mrs. Venkatalakshamamma who had nobody to take care

and to admit her in any of the hospitals to sustain her life. By the initiative of

FIDES she was admitted in the home for the aged in Hoskote mission hospital.

And she was really grateful for having found a shelter for her.

INAUGURATION OF DON BOSCO TECH

3rd Batch Inaugural programme of Don Bosco

Tech began with prayer dance invoking God’s

blessing at 11.15am on 25th of July 2015. Fr.

Jeeson, director of D B Tech, Mr. Vincent the

co- coordinator of Karnataka, Sr. Anna

Chacko the superior of Sacred Heart Convent,

Sr. Rosy the director of CDEW,. Mr.Sabin and

Mrs.Elsa and sisters from campus

communities and staff of FIDES were present in the programme.

Sr. Rosy welcomed the dignitaries and

students for the event. Nearly 38 students

were present for the inauguration. The

chief guests inaugurated the programme

by lighting the lamp. Fr. Jeeson delivered

the inaugural speech on how to utilize the

opportunities and skills provided by DB

Tech with in the period of three months.

He also encouraged students to feel more

responsible to stand independent.

Mr. Vincent explained about three months course content offered by DB Tech like

Retail, Personality development, Basic computer and Communicative English.

Sr. Anna Chacko gave an inspiring

speech on how students can come up

in life with acquiring more skills.

All the DB Tech students participated

in cultural activities like different

types of group dance, skit, action

song and mime. Programmes were

well organized. Everybody

appreciated the performance of

students. The inaugural programme

ended by singing youth Anthem.

CHILDREN’S MEETING, HALASURU

On 25th July 2015 Children’s meeting was held at Halasuru for nearly 40 to 50

children in and around Halasuru who were being sponsored. The kids listened to

few small moral stories based on Bible. Few general facts were taught along with

the good manners and health tips that were necessary for the life .

DHEENA BANDHU WOMEN’S COOPERATIVE BOARD MEETING

On 26th July 2015 Dheena Bandhu society held the cooperative society board

meeting with 9 members. They discussed about the loans which were sanctioned,

retrieved and especially regarding some issues related to it. Account holder was

changed in accordance with the change of the President of the society. They also

finalized about the general body meetings.

YOUTH MEETING IN AVALAHALLY, KAVERINAGAR

In the month of July, 26th, 2015 the youth

meetings were held in Avalahally and

Kaverinagar simultaneously in the presence

of more than 30 youths. Br. Imbaraj spoke

about goal setting, having an aim in life and

how to

become

a great

person

in life. The meeting also decided to keep

debates on the upcoming issues. And also

further topics of interest to be discussed were

noted.

WEAK GROUP MEETING

Weak groups of SHGs which included Chethana, Samvridhi and Nirmala groups

consisting of 45 people were gathered on 29th of July 2015. They were allowed to

discuss the reasons for the weak functioning of their respective groups and bring

ideas to strengthen the groups. Samvridhi group was dissolved due to its weak

functioning.

APEX BODY MEETING VILLAGE

On the 1st of August 2015 the monthly apex meeting was held in the village with

the presence of 30 members who discussed the proper functioning of groups,

importance of returning the loans taken, and stressed on the responsibility to send

the youth for meetings. The meeting also spread the happiness for the villagers

when the arrival of doctor was informed.

MEDICAL CAMP

The medical camp was held in three

places from 6th to 8th of August

2015.The places included were

Halasuru, Kaverinagar and Bandapura.

The camp was conducted by FIDES in

collaboration with expertise treatments

from Dr. Micheal and Dr.Wesley of

USA. The major intentions of the camp

included awareness of various known and unknown diseases to the villagers and

provide treatment for minor diseases in the

area. There were around 250 villagers including

the children who turned up for the medical

checkup. The initiative was successful with the

active involvement and participation of the

people gathered for the event.

ADOPTION GIVEN FOR THE POOR NON

- ADOPTED STUDENTS

Adoption was allotted to 75 kids of Avalahalli, Kaverinagar and Halasuru on 12th

and 17th of August 2015. This brought happiness and interest in the students who

were struggling to continue their studies due to lack of financial support.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

On 15th August D.B. Tech students

celebrated the 69th Independence Day in

FIDES at Nancy Memorial hall. Sr. Anna

graced the event by being the chief guest

of the program. Fr. Mahimai Das, the

sisters’ community, Mr. Devesh, Br. Imba

Raj and the 1st and 2nd batch of the D.B.Tech

students were invited and around 60 students

were gathered. The program began at 11.30

am with a prayer dance. Students participated

in patriotic dances and other cultural events

filled the day with the cheerfulness. Fr.

Mahimai Das delivered the Independence

Day message. Sr. Anna distributed the

certificates to the students of 1st and 2nd batch

of DB Tech. The program was ended by singing the National Anthem .

YOUTH MEETING IN AVALAHALLY, KAVERINAGAR

On 16th August 2015 the youth meetings were held in Avalahalli and Kaverinagar

simultaneously. Nearly 30 of them were participated. The meeting witnessed active

involvement of the youth and enthusiastic minds as they discussed and planned

about the various programmes and events for celebrating the culmination of

Independence Day and the conclusion of Bicentenary of Don Bosco.

TAKING MRS.VENKATALAKSHAMMA FOR TREATMENT

Mrs.Venkatalakshamma was taken to KIDWAI for the treatment of cancer on 18th

of August 2015 and was later taken to an orphanage to have a peaceful and restful

retired life rather than being alone.

INDEPENDENCE DAY AND THE CONCLUSION OF BICENTENARY OF

DON BOSCO CELEBRATIONS

The 23rd of August 2015 witnessed the grand celebration by the youth of

Kaverinagar which was filled with the vibrancy of programmes, skit and dances.

The youth welcomed Sr.Anna Chacko the chief guest, Sr.Celiene, Sr.Sumi,

Sr.Praveena, FIDES and the DB Tech staffs. The chief guest Sr.Anna Chacko

addressed the gathering. Nearly 200 youths made the celebration complete by their

presence. It was a moment to present our father and founder Don Bosco to the

public.

GUEST LECTURE BY MR. PRASSANA KUMAR

On 25th of August 2015 a guest lecture by Mr. Prassana Kumar, asst. manager of

DR. Reddy Foundation Bangalore delivered lecture on “CAREER

DEVELOPMENT” for 38 DB Tech students. He enlightened and guided the

students in various career aspects by which the students can aspire and initiate their

career. He shared his industrial experiences and inspired the students to pursue

good career development. He asked the students to concentrate on their strength

and choose a career in which they can work with full involvement. The program

concluded with an open discussion.

FIELD VISIT TO MORE IN HOSAKOTE

Along with two teachers and 17

energetic students visited More store,

a retail sales venture by the Aditya

Birla group on 27th of August 2015.

The field visit brought new enthusiasm

in students to achieve their goals. The

students met the executives and system

operators, store managers, section in charge and marketing manager during the

visit. The students never forgot to learn the best about the store and to note down

the drawbacks it had.

APEX BODY MEETING KAVERINAGAR AND FIDES OFFICE

On the 2nd of September 2015 the monthly apex meeting was held in Kaverinagar

and village in the presence of nearly 40 members which discussed about the proper

functioning of groups, importance of returning the loans taken, and discussed other

important issues and programmes of the month which needed to be resolved. Sr.

Sumi spoke to them about Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam and how he became great person

in the society moreover how they can become like him.

JEEVA JYOTHI WOMEN’S MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY

BOARD MEETING

Jeeva Jyothi Society held its board meeting on 4th of September 2015 with 8

members and addressed various issues like keeping up the time for the meeting,

absentees of the meeting and loan repayment. Accounts of the previous month was

read and addressed.

WEAK GROUP MEETING

On 6th of September 2015, 65 members from weak groups of SHGs Jeeva Jyothi,

Sneha, Nandhini and Roja groups were gathered in Kaverinagar. They were

allowed to discuss the reasons for the weak functioning of their respective groups

and bring ideas to strengthen the groups. This enabled them to identify their flaws

and steps to improve their group.

FIELD VISIT TO SAFFAL

24 students accompanied by 2

teachers visited SAFFAL, a retail

sales company on 8th of September

2015 to make learning more effective

and to gain practical knowledge on the

subject. Students observed and noted

down the growth and minor

drawbacks the company faced.

GUEST LECTURE BY FR. JEESON

A class was conducted by Fr. Jeeson on 11th September of 2015 to DB Tech

students consisting of 38 students on the topic TEAM MANAGEMENT in the

work place. Games with insight were included in the session for better enlightment

in the students.

Father gave a few suggestions to the students

on how to adjust with different kinds of

people in their team. He also took a class on

punctuality as it is important to manage time

to complete the given task on time. Father

also suggested the students to work hard to

get a good job and continue the same in

order to remain in the job. He also instilled confidence in the students to face

interviews.

YOUTH MEETING, HALASURU

On 12th September 2015 youth meeting

was held at Halasuru for around 40 youth

of Halasuru. Br.Imbaraj took an activity

based class on how to have an aim in life,

how to be a better person to peers and

parents.

DB TECH FAREWELL DAY

3rd batch farewell day programme of

DB Tech commenced on 13th of

September 2015 at 3 pm with 38

students. Sr.Anna Chacko, the

Superior of Sacred Heart Convent,

Sr. Rosy the director of CDEW, Sr.

Sumi Director of FIDES and sisters,

Br. Imbraj, Mr.Jose Paul MSW and

staffs of FIDES were present in the

programme.

Sr. Anna Chacko encouraged the students by her speech and motivated them to

come up in lives and to be ready to face the challenges that come. She also

congratulated the students for their effort

and completion of the course in full

swing. The students also witnessed the

warm welcome by them through their

simple and humble words to the DB Tech

and sisters community. Many entertained

the gathering with various cultural events.

The students shared their experiences in

the campus and the difference in their lives before and after coming to DB Tech for

three months. They thanked sisters and staff of DB Tech for making their lives

more meaningful.

were gathered on 13th September 2015 consisted of about 40 members. They were

provoked into discussion which let them to discuss the reasons for the weak

functioning of their respective groups and bring ideas to strengthen the groups.

This enabled them to identify their flaws and steps to improve their groups.

CHILDREN’S MEETING, HALASURU

On 25th of September 2015 children’s meeting was held at Halasuru for nearly 35

children in and around Halasuru who were being sponsored. Children enacted a

story in the Bible. Children also learnt good manners to be followed on road.

DHEENA BANDHU WOMEN’S

COOPERATIVE GENERAL BODY

MEETING

On 27th September 2015 Dheena

Bandhu society held its general body

meeting in Sr. Nancy memorial hall in

the presence of around 60 members. The meeting was commenced with prayer by

the group members. The secretary of the society welcomed the president and all

the members. The session included the presentation of the audited report and also

discussed on various activities and present status of the society. Since the board

members were not regular for the meeting, two new members were selected for the

board. The president Sr. Anna Chacko gave them the message by encouraging

them to come for the meetings and also discussed on how to make profit and

increase their share. New directors were selected.

YOUTH MEETING IN KAVERINAGAR

Youth meeting was held in Kaverinagar on 27th September 2015 with about 20

members. The day witnessed the energetic youths listening to talks about national

leaders like, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Gandhiji.

APEX BODY MEETING VILLAGE

On 3rd October 2015 the monthly apex body meeting was held in the village in the

presence of nearly 35 people and the meeting started with prayer. It discussed the

various issues they faced in the group, importance of returning the loans taken and

solutions to all issues as much as possible and the pertaining issues were forwarded

to meeting.

APEX BODY MEETING KAVERINAGAR

On 7th October 2015 the monthly apex meeting was held in Kaverinagar in the

presence of about 38 members by invoking God. Together with people they

discussed about the proper functioning of groups, the various issues they faced in

the group and solutions to these issues were discussed and reached a conclusion in

terms of resolving the issues.

JEEVA JYOTHI WOMEN’S MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY

BOARD MEETING KAVERINAGAR

Jeeva Jyothi Society held its board meeting on 7th October 2015 in Fides office at

Kaverinagar. Nearly 8 of them took part. The meeting began with the invocation

from God. Mr. Samuel welcomed the gathering followed by presenting the audited

report of 2013-2014. Group discussed various activities of the society like

stationary shop, regarding the office building construction in Kaverinagar. There

was a discussion on the benefits of becoming the agents for the distribution of

ration card since there were 2000 cards held by a lady within the board member.

The shop which was indicated in the discussion was not able to afford the income

from it because of the high rent, salary and less selling in the shop. The money

which was accumulated in the bank without getting interest could be run through

society and the society could be lent loan for the needy group. Here both group and

society will have the benefits.

YOUTH MEETING IN HALASURU

Youth meeting was held in Halasuru on 10th

October 2015 for about 40 energetic youth who

had gathered. The day witnessed the energetic

youths lending their ears and minds to Mr. Jose

from Kristu Jayanti college who enlightened

them on different schemes available for youth

and women. A debate was also held on love and

arranged marriage. The response of the students

was really an eye opener for the animators and

the leaders. It resulted in the sincere expression

of their views about what is happening in the current situation. Two federation

members shared their experience and difficulties they were facing because of the

love marriage. They exhorted the youth to concentrate their time and energy for

studies. It was really a lesson for the youths to evaluate and choose their future.

STARTING OF 4TH BATCH OF DB TECH IN RETAIL MANAGEMENT

On 12th October 2015 FIDES stared the 4th batch of Retail management with 25

students.

APEX BODY AND FEDERATION MEETING AT HALASURU

On 14th October 2015 the monthly apex meeting was held in Halasuru where

nearly 42 of them participated. They discussed about the proper functioning of

groups, the various issues they faced and solutions to these issues were discussed

and reached a conclusion in terms of resolving the issues. They also discussed

about FIDES Day. In order to strengthen the groups Sr. Sumi insisted that she

would visit the SHG groups in Halasuru. Brief information was given about the

programmes of the month. Sr. Sumi met the federation members separately to

encourage and appreciate them for their support in our work and planned together

with them the dates for the upcoming SHG visit.

YOUTH MEETING IN KAVERINAGAR

Youth meeting was held in Kaverinagar on 25th October 2015. The day witnessed

nearly 27 dynamic youths lending their ears and minds to Bro. Imbaraj who

enlightened them for having an order in life for everything. Life is not based on the

feelings and emotions. If we go by this nobody can achieve anything in life. The

session was concluded by a debate on love marriage and arranged marriage.

GUEST LECTURE BY MONTFORT STUDENTS

On 26-10-2015, Fr. Uday, Fr. Justin along with their team Mr. Antony, Ms.

Sheela, Ms. Anusha and Ms. Dorella from Montfort counseling centre visited the

center at 10.00 am to take classes on different concepts. Fr. Uday started the class

with a prayer song and conducted a class on Self Esteem for 34 students through

games and other activities. Fr. Justin took a section on icebreaking. Mr. Antony

took a class on modern music and its growth. Ms.Sheela and Ms. Anusha

conducted a session on peer pressure by giving each student different question on

different situation. Ms. Dorella took a class on self understanding through a game

and concluded the class by an activity.

VISIT OF RESEARCH TEAM OF QUEST ALLIANCE

On 30th October 2015 the research team of the Quest Alliance visited the center.

At 10.00am the students comprising of 34 members were divided into two groups.

They conducted a survey on what are the purposes the students use the mobile for.

The research team is in the process of creating a new mobile app of the lessons

which are designed by them.

This app would help the students in revising the lessons done in the class and also

help in clarifying their doubts. This is also a way of interacting with the students in

a better way to share their views. They narrated different scenarios to the students

based on the usage of the mobile and got the feedback from the students. They also

gave a practical example on how this app is useful. It was an interactive and useful

session where the students gave their thoughts. This app will also develop the

students in different ways of learning.

COUNSELING FOR DB TECH STUDENTS.

On the 7th November 2015 we started counseling for the students. Fr. Uday and Fr.

Justin from Montfort counseling center had come and conducted the counseling.

They will be coming every Saturday for counseling. The counseling is very helpful

for students to open their mind and to improve their life in a better way through the

counselors’ advice.

NCP MELA AND CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION

On 8th November 2015 children from

Kaverinagar and Ulsoor celebrated the NCP mela

and children’s day at Sr. Nancy memorial hall.

The day started by invoking God’s blessings by

the NCP students of Kaverinagar. Sr. Sumi

welcomed the children and gave the introductory

speech. Br. Imbaraj gave an animation on the

right and duties of the children. Through

video clippings he explained about how

to protect oneself, good and bad touch.

Miss Sandhya a DB tech staff had an

interactive session on how to study and

Sr. Mary Manjil appreciated the children and gave children’s day message by

exhorting them to follow the example of Jawaharlal Nehru and become a useful

and honest citizen for our country.

The presence of many sisters, youth from Kaverinagar, FIDES and DB Tech staff

and students added more joy and color to the program. Mr.Samuel proposed the

vote of thanks.

STARTING OF BPO DOMAIN FOR DB TECH STUDENTS

We started the new BPO domain having 20 students with Miss. Jisna as a BPO

trainer appointed by DB Tech Delhi office on 11th November 2015.

On 11th November 2015, inauguration of BPO Training started with a prayer

invoking God’s blessing up on the programme. Sr. Rosy spoke to the students to

utilize this occasion as a better opportunity to develop their skills and abilities. Sr.

Sumi Joseph encouraged the students to take an advantage of this training and add

extra skills in their life. Students were very happy to get this new training in BPO

and thanked all the sisters and DB Tech staffs.

BOARD MEETING OF JEEVA JYOTHI CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY

The Society board meeting began with prayer on 13th November 2015 with about 7

of the members. Sr. Sumi Joseph, the president of the Society welcomed all the

board members. The secretary of the Society presented the previous month report

and agenda of the day of meeting.

In this meeting, board members mainly discussed about the construction of the

society building and planned in which way they can get the resource to build it.

Some of the board members suggested that they meet local MLA and generous

persons of the locality. They concluded after discussing about the growth of the

society shop and Self Help Groups. Sister later thanked them for their co-operation

and collaboration with FIDES.

CELEBRATION OF DIWALI

14th November 2015 turned out to be a

memorable day for the students of DB

Tech as all celebrated the festival of

lights Diwali. In the morning the class resumed after the prayer.

Post lunch at 2 o’clock the celebration began. The celebration included the staff

of FIDES, Sr. Sumi, staff of DB Tech and the students of DB Tech. The gathering

was welcomed by Sr. Sumi and gave a brief introduction about the festival. After

the welcome speech a few games were conducted for the students. The

celebration ended by eating honey cake and samosa. The winners of the games got

the prizes on the inauguration day.

SHG MEETINGS AT ULSOOR AND KAVERINAGAR

On 15th and 16th November 2015, To encourage and strengthen the Self Help

groups Sr. Sumi Joseph, in- charge of FIDES met the groups at Ulsoor and

Kaverinagar. Sr. Sumi along with the staffs checked all the documents and reports.

As she met the group members she emphasized on giving importance to God in

personal and family life, unity among the group members, increasing the level of

savings in every week, regular loan taking and refunding, education of their

children and using economic support given by the generosity of their donors and

minuets book keeping etc. She also exhorted that women must come up

independently by doing some IGP or finding some job to maintain the family and

support their husband. At the end of the meeting, group’s members thanked sister

and FIDES Staffs for spending their time with them.

DEATH OF

VENKATALAXMAMMA

Venkatalaxmamma was a cancer

patient who was not taken care by

the family members. While sisters

were visiting this family they

found this lady with health issues.

Sr. Sumi Joseph along with other

staffs took her to the Kidwai

Cancer Hospital and did some tests. Unfortunately the report showed that she had

cancer. FIDES took great step to settle her in Hoskote mission hospital’s old age

home. Sisters were visiting her and showing sisterly love and concern towards her.

She was very happy and thankful to God and sisters for all the help done to her. On

20th November 2015 she passed away. Sisters and some of the staffs participated in

her funeral and prayed for her soul.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION AT KRISTU JYOTHI COLLEGE T.C.

PALYA

In the history, this was the first time, SDBs

and FMAs had come together and

conducted a wonderful Christmas

Celebration for the youth on 13th December

2015. Around 50 youths from FIDES

family were present for the day. The

celebration began at 3.00pm with prayer

dance. The rector of the Kristu Jyothi

College Rev. Fr. Jose Kuttiyanimatil delivered the inaugural speech. He said that

God did not hide his passion and love towards the human; He came down as a

normal child to spread his love and

peace to this earth. Sr.Anna Chacko

the Superior of Sacred Heart Convent,

said how Christmas is a feast of joy to

give space to Christ in our hearts as

the children of God and we need to

have the sharing mentality towards the

less fortunate.

Youth from Ulsoor, Kaverinagar and

students of DB Tech Avalahalli entertained the gathering by giving the message of

Christmas in a creative manner performing colourful programmes like dance,

songs and skits. It was very beautiful to work

together and have the celebration.

The Apex body discussed with Sr. Sumi Joseph to

have a program in Ulsoor. Mr. Manjunatha called

some SHGs and made them to clean the hall and

began on 19th December 2015 at

3.30 pm with prayer dance by the

youth girls. Mr. Manjunatha

welcomed all the sisters and the

gathered. Sr. Anna Chacko, the

Superior of SHC, Sr. Mary

Manjil,Sr.Cecilia Thomas, Sr.

Sumi Joseph and Mr. Richard, the

professor and HOD of Kristu Jayanti College were present for the programme.

Sr. Anna and Mr. Richard delivered the Christmas Message saying that the Baby

Jesus Born in the manger to show his simplicity and kindness towards human

beings. The real celebration is sharing with other needy people that what we have

because Jesus is the symbol of Love, as Bible says love one another as you love

yourself.

Youth, children and women put up

some cultural programme to share the

joy of Christmas through dances,

songs and skit. Sr. Sumi wished a

happy Christmas and New Year and

thanked all the SHGs and youth for

their hard work for taking risk and

cleaning the hall and conducting the

programme. More than 400 people

were present for the celebration. The

celebration ended after the distribution

of cake and sweets to the gathering and the people wished Happy Christmas to the

sisters and among themselves.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION VILLAGE SHG’S IN OUR CENTRE AT

AVALAHALLI

The Christmas celebration began with prayer dance at 11.00am on 20th December

2015. Sr.Anna Chacko the Superior of

SHC, Sr. Mary Manjil, Sr. Sumi Joseph

and Fr. Pravinth from KJC graced on the

occasion. Fr. Pravinth delivered the

Christmas message. He gave the

importance of sharing what we have with

the poor families as well as in the society,

especially when the needs arise. Fr.

Pravinth shared the examples of Chennai’s

natural Calamity in which completely destroyed the capital of Tamil Nadu in the

month of November and December. Sr.

Anna Chacko expressed her joy when

she saw the women’s unity in coming

together and building a loving and

caring family. Youth put up few

spectacular cultural activities. Sr. Sumi

later thanked all the members of the Self

Help Groups. More than 140 people

participated in the celebration and sweets

were distributed to all.

programme started with prayer dance by NCP

end Sr. Anna Chacko shared the meaning of Christmas.

D. B. TECH CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

A fantastic Christmas programme was organized by the DB Tech Staff and

students. The celebration started on 21st of December 2015 with prayer dance by

Jisna, the BPO Trainer at 3.00pm in Sr.Nancy Memorial hall. Around 40 took part

in the celebrations. Mr. Manjunath welcomed all the dignitaries for the celebration.

All the invitees inaugurated the programme by

lighting the lamp to invoking showers of

blessings on the programme. Rev. Fr. Jeeson

gave inaugural speech about meaning of

Christmas celebration. He said that without caste

and creed we need to enjoy the Christmas

because Jesus was born to give his peace and

love to the entire human beings on the Earth in

which we will exist forever.

Sr. Cecilia Thomas said that every human being are brothers and sisters, Jesus is

inspiration for us to love one another. Mr. Richard expressed his valuable words

toward Students that youth are losing the values and faith on themselves but the

birth of Jesus is the symbol of faith, moral and trust. We thus need to have his trust

in ourselves that everything is possible. Students performed colorful programmes

HALF DAY ANIMATION CLASS FOR THE FIDES AND DB TECH

STAFF ON CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

FMA India on 30th of December

2015. She explained in detail the

importance of having a policy

regarding protection of children to the

sisters, staff, educating community

and all those who is connected with our mission as we are working for the children

who belong to the vulnerable section of the society. The session ended as the staffs

thanked Sr. Jacintha for her presentation.

MOTHER PROVINCIAL’S VISIT TO

KAVERINAGAR SLUM

Rev. Sr. Crecentia D'Almeda, the

Provincial of Sacred Heart Convent

Bandapura, made a visit to Kaverinagar on January 4th 2016 to see the people of

the working area. All the Self help group members, youth and FIDES staffs about

70 members were gathered in the FIDES office. Some members of the SHGs and

youth shared about how they received motivation and guidance from the Salesian

sisters and staffs. The women

expressed that the sponsorship

programme and monthly youth

meetings have changed their

children lives spiritually and

educationally. They also

mentioned that today most of

their children are working in

software companies and

shopping malls and earning

sufficient salary to support

themselves and their families.

The Society Board members happily reported that they have received

Rs.10,00,000, as aid from the MLA Mr. Arvind Limbavali for the construction of

the Society building. Mother Provincial was happy to hear about the growth of the

people of Kaverinagar and thanked them for their constant co-operation and

collaboration with FIDES. She requested them to continue in the same spirit and

assured her support in the days to come. All who were present thanked Mother

Provincial and concluded her visit with prayers.

VISIT TO LOCAL MLA

The Jeeva Jyoti society, under the guidance of Sr. Sumi, and the staffs of FIDES

visited Mr Arvind limvabali, MLA of Mahadevpura constituency, to discuss the

construction of the FIDES building on 21st January 2016. Sr. Sumi described the

present situation of the society and the need to construct the FIDES Building. Mr.

Arvind limvabali immediately sanctioned Rs. 10 lakhs for the construction and

referred them to the District Commissioner of the area for the further proceedings

and assured the full cooperation, the engineers

and other concerned persons responsible for

the planning and construction of the Society

building.

DON BOSCO'S FEAST

programme in Kristu Jyothi College for the First time. As part of a drama they did

a club dance at the request of Fr. Shalbin, on 31st January 2016. Everybody

appreciated their performance.

MEDICAL CAMPS IN ULSOOR AND KAVERINAGAR

Medical camps were organized by

FIDES for general health screening of

the slum dwellers and to raise awareness

on the importance of maintaining good

health in the slums of Ulsoor and

Kaverinagar on 4th and 5th February

2016. Mr. Paul Wilkes sent two medical

specialists from the United States of

America along with Dr. Radika from

Columbia Asia to conduct the two days

medical camps in both locations.

Around 300 people, including women and children, attended the general health

check-up. The doctors gave treatments and medication to the people suffering from

common conditions like fever, cold, and for communicable diseases like T.B.,

Cholera, etc. The doctors also checked the people’s blood sugar and blood

pressure. The doctors also raised awareness on the importance of eating healthy

food and taking proper rest to protect one’s immunity.

INAUGURATION OF DON BOSCO TECH

The Inaugural Ceremony of the 5th Batch

of Don Bosco Tech was conducted with 25

students on 17th of February 2016. Fr.

Jeeson (Director of DB Tech), Mr. Patrick

(State Co-coordinator of Karnataka), Sr.

Anna Chacko (Superior of Sacred Heart

Convent), Sr. Jesintha Lobo (Chair person

of CDEW), Sr. Sheela Jacob (Province

Economer), Mrs. Catherine (State Finance

Person), Sr. Sumi (Director of FIDES) and sisters and staffs of FIDES were present

for the program. Fr. Jeeson delivered the inaugural speech in which he encouraged

the students to utilize the opportunities and skills provided by DB Tech. Mr.

Patrick and Sr. Jesintha also addressed the students, highlighting the various skills

they will learn and these can help them

succeed in their careers and personal

lives.

All the DB Tech students participated in

cultural activities like different types of

group dances, skit, group song and solo

songs.

WOMEN'S DAY TALK

On the occasion of International

Women’s Day, FIDES arranged a

special meeting which was held for the

female tailoring students and DB Tech

students of nearly 20 of them on 8th

March 2016 in one of the classrooms in

FIDES.

The program started with a prayer song and then the Chief Guest and speaker of

the day, Sr. Jacintha Lobo, Chairperson of

CWC, was welcomed.

Sr. Jacintha then proceeded with the

women’s day talk where she enlightened

the students on their rights as women.

Sister gave the students some tips on how

they truly be empowered by remembering

that women are equal to men, making use

of every opportunity they get, having a

positive attitude and by helping their fellow sisters to grow. Sister then quoted

examples of some of the great women who made a difference in society like Indira

Gandhi and Mother Teresa.

Sister then concluded her talk by teaching a Kannada song which speaks about

how women should stand united. The program ended with Mrs. Prabha, the Trainer

of the Tailoring Course, who proposed the Vote of Thanks.

FAREWELL DAY OF 5th BATCH RETAIL

On 21st March 2016, the 5th batch students of DB Tech Retail of about 25 students

had their farewell day. Sr. Anna

Chacko, Sr. Rosy and Sr.Sumi were

present for the occasion of the farewell

day. Sr. Rosy wished all the students a

bright future by her inspirational words.

On this auspicious occasion 3rd batch

GUDDALI POOJA AT KAVERINAGAR OFFICE BUILDING

We had long awaited

dream to have an

office building in

Kaverinagar. Mr.

Arvind Limabavali,

MLA of

Mahadevapura had

given Rs.10 lakhs from his fund 8 months ago to

construct the building. It took long time to clear the procedure. On the 20th of April

2016, in the presence of more than 120 gathered, Guddali pooja, the traditional

custom of starting the construction was held in the presence of Sri. Aravind

Limbavalli, MLA and Mr. Rajesh, the Cooperator of Kaverinagar. The guests were

welcomed by the SHG members and others. Both the guests appreciated the effort

taken and promised to render their help for the complete success of the

construction of the building. FIDES thanked them for their availability and

support. Sweets were distributed for the people to mark the event.

FIDES FAMILY DAY

The 22nd annual FIDES day celebration commenced at 10:30 am on 24th April

2016, in the company of nearly 2500 people gathered from Kaverinagar, Ulsoor

and the neighbouring villages around Sacred Heart Convent. This festal moment

was inaugurated with an invocation to God Almighty through Mohiniyattam a

traditional dance by the youth and symbolically watering of a plant by the

dignitaries of the day.

The special invitees and guests of the day were Sr. Crescentia D’ Almeida –

Provincial of Bangalore, Smt. SudhaBaragur –a renowned international humorist,

Mr. AravindLimbavali – MLA, Mahadevapura, Mr. R.K. Prasad – CEO &Co-

Founder, CommLab India,Mr. Aswathiah – Retd.Registrar of Co-operative

Society, Bangalore and Mr. B Raju – Circle Inspector,Devanahalli Airport.

The whole function was

focused on the theme

“Family”. Smt. Sudha Baragur

enlightened the gathering on

the “Role of women in the

family”. As a resource person,

she captured the crowd with

her humorous and solid

presentation, offering tips for

women to live responsibly and

build a happy family. Mr. R.K.

Prasad spoke on “the blessings

of a happy family” and Mr.B.Raju highlighted the “unique role of the father,

mother and children while building their own family”. On the other hand, the

president Sr. Crescentia D’ Almeida dealt on

“the contribution of Sr.Nancy towards

Fides and her dream that continuous on”.

Mr. AravindLimbavali - MLA in his message

congratulated the missionaries for their

“significant and selfless contribution on

behalf of the poorest and the

marginalized”.

Her motto was “Living is self giving to all the people and all the time”. This was

fondly remembered by the people as they acknowledged her service and

remembered many valuable helps and guidance received from her as a mother,

benefactress, friend and guide, for the growth of their own families. Thereafter the

gathering paid a loving and grateful homage to her by placing a floral bouquet in

front of her image.

The cultural programme consisted of three dances by the young people of our

working areas. It was followed by a fraternal meal.

In her speech gratefully

remembered Sr. Nancy Pereira

who started FIDES with help

of Sr. Anna Karuvelil, Sr.

Constance Gomez ,16 lay staffs

in the year 1994. She also

summarized the history by

telling how the project was

initiated at M. V. Garden in

Halasuru for about 1600

families and then extended to 12 villages around Avalahalli. She emphasized the

aim of Sr. Nancy in launching out FIDES, to combat ignorance, illiteracy, ill health

and moral and spiritual degradation in families by applying a threefold objective

that she had outlined. She was happy say how Sr. Nancy was inspirational to all

working around her and how she gained help from her good friends and

benefactors in Italy and other parts of

Europe to help the poor. She also

quoted the words of Sr. Nancy that still

lead the sisters and the team of FIDES

to continue the mission laid by her. She

concluded with the intercession to Sr.

Nancy Pereira, the foundress, so that

this programme may be a beacon of

light to all who come in contact with it.

Mr. R. K. Prasad gave spoke on values

and love as the focal point. He emphasized on the importance of values and how

they can be acquired by love. He concluded saying that the love is the root of all

values and is only learnt by helping the poor and serving just like the sisters in

Salesian society.

All the guests who spoke on the dais mentioned about the good done by Christians

and appreciated FIDES work

The day was ornamented by the dances and songs by the FIDES family consisting

of the villagers and students of DB Tech . Programmes varied from traditional to

western and from young kids to the enthusiastic youth. Songs in their sweet

melody didn’t fail to enthrall the audience. The main volunteers were

acknowledged with gratitude for their support and help. As a token of gratitude

they were given a memento each. Prize distribution was done for the SHGs group

that had the highest amount of savings.
