COLONIALS REACH DOUBLE-DIGIT NON-CONFERENCE WINSuFor the third consecutive season, GW hit double-digit victories in non-conference play by recording 11 againstoneofthemoredifficultnon-leagueslatesinrecent history. The 11-non-conference wins are the third-most in school history behind only 1954-55 (14) and 2013-14 (12). Seven of those wins came against teams from the other historical top RPI con-ferences (Virginia, USF, Tennessee, Seton Hall, Penn State, Rutgers, UCF).uThe Colonials were a perfect 8-0 at home in non-conference play, and have won 22 straight at home overall against non-conference competition. The last loss came at the hands of K-State on Dec. 8, 2012.

HITTING THE MARKuGW has made a habit of getting to the free throw line, taking advantage of its opportunities there, and also limiting the number of trips to the line for opponents. The Colonials have at-tempted more free throws than their opponent in 13 of 16 games (Cicinnati, UCF, Duquesne) and for the season, have made more free throws (289) than their opponents have attempted (267). GW ranks 13th nationally in free throw percentage (.759), 25th in free throws made (289)andiscommittingjust16.8foulspergamewhichisthe28thfewestinthenation.uThe Colonials have made more free throws than the opponent attempted eight times this year and are undefeated in those games. The season-high for made free throws is 29 against Lafayette in the season opener, while the best game percentage wise came in the loss at DePaul (24-27, .889).

GW EARNS TOP 25 RANKING FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2006uOn Dec. 14, GW entered the top 25 of both the Associated Press (#21) and USA Today/Coaches(#22)Pollsforthefirsttimesincethefinalpollofthe2005-06season.Thatcameon the heels of a 9-1 start which included a win over No. 6 Virginia in the second game of the season. The Colonials rose to No. 20 in both polls a week later, but dropped out following a loss at DePaul. GW is receiving votes to place it 28th in the current Coaches poll and 29th in the AP.

The baseline hashtag #RaiseHigh comes from the GW Fight Song, and has taken on boundless meaning for students, alumni and fans rallying around George Washington University and GW Athletics. Not only a slogan, “Raise High” permeates all facets of life for Colonials past and present - those who strive for excellence in everything they do, who want to maximize their own potential as well as that of their team.

“We sold them on the idea of helping us put George Washington basketball back on the map,” said head coach Mike Lonergan. “They knew they could come in and have an impact as freshmen - we didn’t expect all three of them to start right away, but that’s what ended up happening. They’ve had great success, but they all feel that we’ve still got a lot to accomplish this year.”
