pitch modulation and body language. Even though the majority of tasks performed by the
engineering students are of technical in nature their success to a great extent depends on the
effectiveness with which they communicate with each other. The four skills of reading, writing,
speaking and listening have to be trained. Being able to communicate well is the most important
factor when seeking a placement in a company or institution. Communication involves one’s
ability to listen carefully so as to grasp the meaning and to respond in turn with apt words and
clarity of pronunciation. The language lab is a technological break for imparting skills in English.
The language lab offers an exclusive result oriented and efficient to enrich the English language
learning process. Language labs are designed to provide the learners with a strong platform for
practical training in the language. A good language lab skillfully and efficiently develops the
language skills of the learners. Language labs also provide scope for using language through
games and practice exercises to polish concepts learnt during classroom sessions. The digital
language lab motivates student’s learning attitude, providing an interactive learning environment.
The essence for having a language lab is being broadly recognized by the English language
academia. Schools and colleges across the country are opening up to the idea of establishing
language labs for the future benefit of their learners.Language laboratory is an audio-visual
installation used in modern teaching methods to learn the foreign languages. Modern language
labs are known by many names, digital language lab, multimedia language lab, language media
center and multimedia learning center etc. The function of a language lab is to involve students to
actively contribute in language learning exercises and get more practice than otherwise possible
in a traditional classroom environment. The multimedia based language lab helps to gain
knowledge and enhance the language proficiency by sharing the course .The language lab is
created on the methodology of LSRW skills. The Language Lab emphasizes on the construction
and practice of sounds of language and familiarizes the students with the use of English in
everyday situations and contexts.
Modern language labs in general offer the Text, images, audio and video can easily be integrated;
teachers can alter materials to fit their requirements, Learners can record their own voice and
play back the recordings, interact with each other and the teacher, and store results. Teachers can
intervene and control the learners’ computers via the teacher’s console, track of learners’ work,
etc. Self access for independent learning which includes access to resources outside class.
Common components in a modern language lab:
Teacher has well established computer system with appropriate language software for
conducting language exercises
Teacher and students wear headsets that avoid noise and disturbances
Students have a media player/recorder for listening to audio and recording speech
Teacher and student positions are connected via LAN (local area network), in some cases also
via separate audio cabling
A server computer or a separate storage device is often used to store lesson materials in a
digital format
The language laboratory exists to help one to use technology successfully to communicate. It is
not just for learning a single language, but can be used for teaching a number of languages
efficiently. To acquire a sensibility for the sounds and rhythm of a language, one has to listen to
the best samples of a spoken. This is precisely the function of the language laboratory. Language
laboratory enables the students to a variety of self-instructional, learner-friendly modes of
language learning. It helps the students nurture the habit of reading passages from the computer
monitor, thus providing them with the required facility to face computer-based competitive
exams such GRE, TOEFL, GMAT etc. The use of language laboratory also enables them to learn
better pronunciation through stress on word accent, intonation, and rhythm. It is helpful to train
them to use language effectively to face interviews, group discussions, and public speaking.
Language laboratory is a tool designed for teaching any language. It helps the students into
greater use of the computer in resume, c.v. preparation, report writing, format making etc. It
helps one to have control on paralanguages like to learn pronunciation, accent, stress and all other
aspects of the phonetics of a language.
Effective and useful communicative training programmes, discussion sessions for the general
public, private and corporate sectors, junior and senior level officers can be given through the
lab. Web content creation, the setting up of in-house news magazines, corporate publicity and
identity, and teaching materials can be generated through the language laboratory. General
documentation, software documentation and all forms of technical documentation can be
completed. Experts and intellectuals can utilize the laboratory for creating and editing scientific
and technical materials for teaching language. The language laboratory enables one to perform
courses for various groups of people like students, faculties, businesspeople, etc. Online courses
and paperless examinations can be conducted through the language laboratory. Mr.G.Hari
Krishna clarified the student doubts during the training. B.Tech First year students have attended
the training program during the period 12.02.2016 to 16.05.2016.

REPORT ON MATLAB/SIMULINK
VENUE: VEVEKANADA SEMINAR HALL
Objective-The workshop was based on the Basic of MATLAB.
Resource Person: Mr.T.Suneel , Assistant Professor, VRSEC,Vijayawada
Mr. T.Suneel, Assistant Professor in EEE department, VRSEC, Vijayawada interacted with B.Tech
EEE year students during 12-02-2016 to 10-05-2016 regarding usage of MATLAB in core areas of electrical
engineering. MATLAB is a high-performance language for technical computing. It integrates computation,
visualization, and programming in an easy-to-use environment where problems and solutions are expressed in
familiar mathematical notation. Typical uses include:• Algorithm development • Modeling, simulation, and
prototyping • Data analysis, exploration, and visualization • Scientific and engineering graphics • Application
development, including Graphical User Interface building MATLAB is an interactive system whose basic data
element is an array that does not require dimensioning. This allows you to solve many technical computing
problems, especially those with matrix and vector formulations, in a fraction of the time it would take to write a
program in a scalar non interactive language such as C or FORTRAN. The name MATLAB stands for matrix
laboratory. MATLAB was originally written to provide easy access to matrix software developed by the
LINPACK and EISPACK projects, which together represent the state-of-the-art in software for matrix
computation. MATLAB has evolved over a period of years with input from many users. In university
environments, it is the standard instructional tool for introductory and advanced courses in mathematics,
engineering, and science. In industry, MATLAB is the tool of choice for high- productivity research,
development, and analysis. MATLAB features a family of application-specific solutions called toolboxes. Very
important to most users of MATLAB, toolboxes allow you to learn and apply specialized technology. Toolboxes
are comprehensive collections of MATLAB functions (M-files) that extend the MATLAB environment to solve
particular classes of problems. Areas in which toolboxes are available include signal processing, control systems,
neural networks, fuzzy logic, wavelets, simulation, and many others. MATLAB is a fourth-generation
programming language and numerical analysis environment. Uses for MATLAB include matrix calculations,
developing and running algorithms, creating user interfaces (UI) and data visualization. The multi-paradigm
numerical computing environment allows developers to interface with programs developed in different languages.
MATLAB is used by engineers and scientists in many fields such as image and signal processing,
communications, control systems for industry, smart grid design, robotics as well as computational finance.
MATLAB system consists of five main parts: MATLAB language This is a high-level matrix/array language
with control flow statements, functions, data structures, input/output, and object-oriented programming features. It
allows both "programming in the small" to rapidly create quick and dirty throw-away programs, and
"programming in the large" to create complete large and complex application programs. MATLAB working
environment. This is the set of tools and facilities that you work with as the MATLAB user or programmer. It
includes facilities for managing the variables in your workspace and importing and exporting data. It also includes
tools for developing, managing, debugging, and profiling M- files, MATLAB's applications Handle Graphics.
This is the MATLAB graphics system. It includes high-level commands for two-dimensional and three
dimensional data visualization, image processing, animation, and presentation graphics. It also includes low-level
commands that allow you to fully customize the Appearance of graphics as well as to build complete Graphical
User Interfaces on your MATLAB applications. MATLAB Application Program Interface (API This is a library
that allows you to write C and Fortran programs that interact with MATLAB. It include facilities for calling
routines from MATLAB (dynamic linking), calling MATLAB as a computational engine, and for reading and
writing MAT-files. Students were given hands on training in solving problems at EEE Simulation Lab. The entire
session was very interactive and the students have been demonstrated with various programs related to circuit
analysis. The tutorial session created an interested in learning this software and they have been given an
assignment that comprises of a set of creative questions for continuous learning process. The workshop was ended
with a feedback session by the students. In that, they have expressed their interest and willingness in attending the
next workshop of this series
