PRIVACY ACT The Glenelg Golf Club (GGC) is required to conform with the National Privacy Principles (NPP) as set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (a Commonwealth Act). The NPP governs the way organizations collect, use, disclose and secure information about you. The NPP also permits you access to the information held by organizations about you in order to correct or update it if it is not accurate. The personal information collected and maintained by GGC for every one of our members includes your name, address, date of birth, contact details and information specific to, and required for, the service that we provide to members. Information may be held on behalf of GGC by outside organizations in order to provide services to us (GGC). A major example of this is the GolfLink handicapping system run under the guidance of Golf Australia, which has guaranteed that such information will not be disclosed to any third party. GGC is committed to safeguarding personal information provided by members, visitors and staff. We will never disclose any personal information unless we believe there is threat to life, health or safety. GGC on occasions provides the telephone number of a member to another member(s) for the purpose of arranging golf matches. (For example, members’ telephone numbers are published in this Handbook.) This practice will continue unless a member(s) specifically advises the Club that they do not wish their telephone number disclosed to other members.


PERSONAL INSURANCE PLAN (PIP) All playing members of Glenelg Golf Club pay a PIP Insurance Levy which covers loss or damage to golf clubs and other sporting equipment anywhere in Australia:

› Up to a maximum of $5,000 per claim; › Excess payable for each claim of $500; › Does not include golf balls, consumables of

clothing; › Theft must be reported to police within 24 hours;

This is a summary of the covers and nothing is to be read as overriding the terms, conditions and exclusions of the policy wording. FULL COVERAGE IS AS CONTAINED IN THE PRODUCT DISCLOSURE STATEMENT, AVAILABLE FROM THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE. GOLF AUSTRALIA HANDICAPPING SYSTEM The new Golf Australia handicapping system was introduced on 23rd January 2014 incorporating the use of Slope. The Golf Operations team is authorised to manage the implementation of the new Golf Australia handicapping system on behalf of the Committee of Management. Competition grades will be determined using the player’s Daily Handicap – this will apply to competition results, NTP’s and any other grade determined prizes, unless otherwise advised. Up to a maximum of two tee options for males and females may be made available to golfers on a daily basis for competition play. The course setup will be at the discretion of the Course Superintendent in consultation with the Golf Operations team, and in accordance with the new Golf Australia handicapping system requirements. Only official competition rounds (including rounds of 8 holes or more) will be handicapped under the new Golf Australia handicapping system. Social rounds and non-individual rounds (ie. 4BBB events) will not be handicapped. CLUB POLICIES & CONDITIONS OF PLAY 1ST TEE ALL PLAYERS MUST report to the Pro Shop prior to hit off. Players MUST NOT hit off any tee other than the 1st tee without the permission of Pro Shop staff. BALL RACE The Ball Race system is used to start the field on all days except for when a Starter is present or a booking sheet is in use. This policy is in place to ensure fairness for all golfers playing at Glenelg Golf Club. It is an honesty system that requires the cooperation of all golfers to be successful. Players MUST NOT place a ball in the Ball Race until all members of their group are present, have reported to the Pro Shop and are ready to hit off. BOOKING SHEETS Online booking sheets are used in circumstances of significant demand on the tee, or to maximise limited periods of availability between tee closures. Booking Sheets will open online 8 days prior at 3:00pm. PLAYING GROUP SIZES

It is preferred that all groups have four (4) or less players. However, on rare occasions groups greater than four (4) players are permitted on the golf course only if: › all opportunities have been exhausted in attempting to

arrange group(s) of four (4) players or less; and › larger group(s) are not holding up groups of four (4) or

less;


If groups with more than four (4) players are holding up other groups, they MUST immediately break in to smaller groups or let the group(s) behind through. USE OF SAND BUCKETS Each player must carry and use a sand bucket to fill divots. ORDER OF PLAY Events Determined By Stroke Play The order of play, or draw, will be determined by lot, by time sheet, or by the Starter, whichever is appropriate to the circumstances. For 'championship' events, the draw will, in the absence of special provisions, normally be seeded in (descending) handicap order. Honour on the first tee will be in accord with the draw. Events determined by Match Play Where there are qualifying rounds, the draw for those rounds will be determined by lot, by seeded draw, or by the Starter, whichever is appropriate. For 'championship' events, the draw will, in absence of special provisions, normally be seeded in (descending) handicap order. Honour on the first tee will be in accord with the draw. The 'seeded draw' for match play will be determined in accord with provisions contained in the Golf Australia Handbook. The player highest on the draw will have the honour on the first tee. Where there are no qualifying rounds, the draw will, in the absence of special provisions, be determined by lot. The player highest on the draw will have the honour on the first tee.


SLOW PLAY Slow play can have a negative impact on the opportunity that should be available to members to enjoy the course and their game, so the Committee has put a rule on slow play in place. Please remember that your place in the field is immediately behind the group in front, not merely in front of the group behind. Members are required to maintain their pace of play so that their group holds their place in the field. It shall be considered a breach of the rules of the Club for a group to be more than one hole behind for more than two holes without reasonable cause. Members may report other members for slow play. The report must be in detail to the General Manager, by at least two members, within 7 days of the occurrence. The General Manager must advise the subject(s) of the report in writing that the report has been received and seek a written explanation. If the General Manager is satisfied that the slow play occurred and considers the explanation given to be unsatisfactory, the circumstances must be reported to the Committee at its next meeting and the subject(s) of the report must be advised of their rights under section 7.4 of the Constitution. In normal circumstances, no action will be taken for a first offence but the consequences of being found guilty of a second offence shall be pointed out to the subject(s) of the report.


In the case of a second offence, the Committee may consider suspending the playing rights and/or other membership rights of the offending member(s) depending on the circumstances. As a rule of thumb, a second offence shall result in a suspension of one week and greater than one week for subsequent offences. This may be varied at the discretion of the Committee. COUNTBACK SYSTEM In the event of a tie in a competition where the countback applies, the order of finishing will be determined by the better score over: › the last 9 holes, then › the last 6 holes, then › the last 3 holes, then › hole by hole from the last hole. PROTESTS AND COMPLAINTS A protest in connection with any competition or match shall be made to the General Manager at the completion of the game, or at the earliest time following the reason for complaint having become apparent. MOTORISED TRANSPORT

Motorised transport may be used in Club Championships and Club Competitions (Saturday and Tuesday) only where committee approval has previously been obtained based upon a medical certificate.


ENTITLEMENT TO TROPHIES In any event where competitors are able to win more than one trophy, they shall be awarded such trophies to which they are entitled. That is, in events where scratch and handicap events are conducted in conjunction, a competitor(s) may win both the scratch and handicap events and be awarded the trophies for each. COMPLETION AND RETURN OF CARDS To be eligible to be considered, cards must: › show the player’s name; › be signed by the player and countersigned by the marker; › show the date; › show the handicap; and › show the player’s score. PRACTICE ROUNDS Any member of a pennant squad or team, or with a handicap of seven or less, is permitted to play from the championship (Black or Yellow) tees during practice rounds. Any member playing a practice round may play two balls if not hindering other players.


MATCHPLAY EVENTS 1. The date and time of each round will be stipulated. 2. Should the competitors mutually agree, they may play

on an earlier date. 3. In the event that the match is not decided at an earlier

time, and one side is unable to play at the stated hour on the stipulated day, that side shall forfeit the match.

4. Should neither side be able to play at the stated time on the stipulated day, the match may be decided by lot.

5. Matches will be played to a finish. 6. In handicap match play events, the low marker reverts

to scratch and then the calculations where strokes are given and taken are made.

7. All match play games are off current handicaps. LATE ENTRIES POLICY For all Club events requiring entry via an entry form, the following policies apply: Entries received after the closing date will be placed on a reserves list and only entered into the event draw should a regular entrant withdraw after the closing date. Late entries will be prioritised in accordance with their receipted date of entry. At all times, the General Manager, Director of Golf Operations, or their delegates, may use their discretion to handle late entries in a manner which may fall outside of these policy guidelines.


CLUBHOUSE CLOSED The Clubhouse is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day. Members do not have access to the buggy storage area or the locker rooms on Christmas Day.

The Professional Shop is open on Good Friday. CLUBHOUSE CAR PARK & ENTRANCE ROAD Parking in the Clubhouse Car Park (rear of clubhouse) is restricted to short term and permit parking only. Short term parking provides for a maximum of 2 hours and is available to non-golf-playing patrons. No permit or prior arrangement is necessary. Permit parking is for golfing members with impaired mobility. A permit is available from the Administration Office, which allows parking in this area for up to 5 hours. A speed limit of 20km/h strictly applies on the Entrance Road and Clubhouse Road, and in all car parks.


MEMBERS’ GUESTS & VISITORS The following provisions apply to members' guests & visitors: › Not allowed on Saturday without prior permission from

the General Manager or Club Professional; › Not allowed on Tuesday before 11:30am without prior

permission from the General Manager or Club Professional;

› It is the responsibility of the introducing member to ensure their guest(s) report to the Pro Shop prior to play;

› A member must play with the guest(s) he/she signs-in; › Under no circumstances may a member sign-in more

than one guest to play between 11:30am and 2:00pm on Wednesday or Thursday;

› It is the responsibility of the member to ensure that GREEN FEES are paid and that the guests’ name is recorded with the Pro Shop prior to commencing play;

› A members’ guest may play only six (6) rounds per membership year. It is the responsibility of the introducing member to ensure that his/her guest does not contravene this provision;

It is the responsibility of the introducing member to ensure that his/her guest(s) carries a sand bucket, fills-in divots, repairs pitch marks, rakes bunkers, and places rakes in the centre of bunkers, along the line of play. It is the responsibility of the introducing member to ensure that his/her guest(s) is appropriately attired in accord with the Club’s Dress Code. A MEMBER MAY NOT PLAY AS A VISITOR AT A TIME OUTSIDE HIS/HER APPLICABLE PLAYING RIGHTS.


DRESS CODE Dress standards are designed to support and enhance an appropriate level of decorum within the Club, and to meet with a degree of acceptability among all members. Hence members, their guests, and others playing golf at the Club, must adhere to the code, and to its spirit. GOLF COURSE & PRACTICE FACILITIES Men: Traditional or modern male golfing attire must be worn on the golf course and practice facilities at all times, including: › Tailored or golf-specific trousers and shorts, preferably

worn with a belt; › Collared, turtle-neck or golf-specific shirts, tucked in at

all times; › All clothing free from excessive slogans or advertising; › Long socks, pulled up at all times, when worn with

shorts; › Sockettes or short socks, which are plain or substantially

white, when worn with shorts; The following attire is not permitted on the golf course or practice facilities: › Any clothing made from denim material; › Cargo style trousers or shorts, tracksuit or leisure pants,

trousers or shorts with elasticised or drawstring waists, football shorts or board shorts;

› Three-quarter length trousers; › T-shirts or singlets; › Golf shoes with hard or metal spikes; › Thongs, scuffs or boots (of any kind);


Women: Traditional or modern female golfing attire must be worn on the golf course and practice facilities at all times, including: › Tailored or golf-specific trousers, three-quarter trousers,

shorts and skirts; › Collared, turtle-neck or golf-specific shirts, tucked in at

all times unless designed to be worn untucked; › All clothing free from slogans or advertising; › Sockettes or short socks, which are plain or substantially

white, or complement the colour of other clothing, when worn with shorts or skirts;

The following attire is not permitted on the golf course or practice facilities: › Any clothing made from denim material; › Cargo style trousers or shorts, tracksuit or leisure pants,

or stirrup pants; › Golf shoes with hard or metal spikes; › Thongs, scuffs or boots (of any kind);


CLUBHOUSE & OTHER INFORMATION Neat and tidy, casual dress is the minimum standard acceptable in the Clubhouse at all times. In general terms, attire which is acceptable on the course is acceptable in the Clubhouse. Additionally, members and guests may wear denim jeans, open collared shirts and other casual style shirts (including t-shirts) when attending a Club or outside function, or when using the Club’s bar, bistro and dining facilities, provided they are neat and tidy at all times. Shirts may also be worn untucked, provided they are designed in this manner. Leather boat shoes and dress sandals may be worn in the clubhouse without socks. Golf shoes may be worn in all areas of the Clubhouse, except the Dining Room, unless prior permission has been granted. The following attire is not permitted in the Clubhouse at any time: › Tank tops and singlets; › Cargo style trousers or shorts, tracksuit or leisure pants,

trousers or shorts with elasticised or drawstring waists, stirrup pants, football shorts or board shorts;

› Clothing with excessive or inappropriate slogans or advertising;

› Clothing with rips or tears; › Golf shoes with hard or metal spikes; › Rubber thongs or work boots (of any kind); Caps, visors, and hats, must not be worn inside the upper level of the clubhouse.


Notwithstanding the above requirements, members and guests must still adhere to any special dress requirements imposed by the Club during any function held in the Clubhouse. Members will be held accountable for their guests complying with this dress code and are advised to minimise the potential for embarrassment by ensuring that their guests are aware of the Club's requirements. It is not the role of members to enforce this dress code upon other members or guests (other than your own guest). If you see another person failing to meet the standards of this dress code, please notify a staff member so that the appropriate action can be taken. It is accepted that there will be times when visitors to the Club do not meet the expectations of this dress code such as 'outside' events being conducted for the financial benefit of the Club. Therefore, it is not in-appropriate that differential expectations may apply in such circumstances, but that the tolerance of different dress forms does not diminish the responsibility of those who are members, and authorised golfing visitors, to meet, and promote, the standards contained in this code.


ETIQUETTE The following is Club policy: COURTESY ON THE COURSE Safety Prior to making a stroke or making a practice swing, the player should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball, or any object which may be moved by the stroke or swing. Consideration for Other Players No one should move, talk, or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. No player should play until the players in front are out of range, or, in the case of call-up holes, until all players in front are safely situated. Pace of Play In the interests of all, players should walk briskly between shots, walk directly to their ball, be ready to play when it is their turn, and play without delay. Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not be easily found. They should not search for five minutes before doing so. They should not continue play until the players called through have passed and are out of range.


When play on a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the green. Irrespective of honour, any player who is ready should play as soon as is practicable and should not delay play for the purpose of marking their card, or for any other purpose, which is not in accord with the Rules of Golf. Your place in the field is immediately behind the group in front and not merely in front of the group behind! If a group fails to keep its place on the course and falls more than one clear hole behind the players in front, it should stand aside in a safe position and invite the group following to play through. To preserve harmony in the Club, and show due regard for the interests of others, members who are naturally slow players should choose to play at times when there are fewer players on the course. By so doing, they will place themselves either well in front of, or well behind, the main field. While, as indicated above, calling through quicker players is required, no amount of letting other players through will compensate for perennial slow play during busy periods. CARE OF THE COURSE Bunkers Before leaving a bunker, all players MUST carefully fill and smooth over all holes and footprints made on the base of the bunker using the teeth of the rake, and use the back of the rake to smooth out holes and footprints made on the face of the bunker. Players should place the rake in the base of the bunker parallel to the line of play of the hole after raking.


Divots, Ball-marks, and Spike-marks Through the green, the player should ensure that any divot cut by him/her is filled with sand (with or without replacement of the turf) and that any damage to the putting green made by a ball is carefully repaired in accord with instructions in the clubhouse and starter’s hut. On completion of the hole, damage caused to the putting surface by shoes should be repaired. When taking practice swings, particularly on the tees, players should avoid the damage caused by removing divots. Damage to Greens Players should ensure that, when putting down bags or the flagstick, no damage is done to the putting green and that neither they nor their caddies damage the hole by standing close to it when attending the flagstick, or in removing the ball from the hole. Wherever practicable, balls should be left in the hole until the last player has holed out. The flagstick should be carefully, and properly, replaced in the hole before players leave the putting green. Players should not damage the putting surface by leaning on their putters, particularly when removing the ball(s) from the hole. Hand Carts Hand carts with wide tyres (approved by the Pro Shop) may be taken across the greens but must not come to rest on the putting surface.


USE OF MOTORISED TRANSPORT Private single seat motorised buggies and gophers may only be used on the course where committee approval has been obtained based upon a medical certificate. Private motorised golf carts are not permitted to be used on the course (unless prior approval has been granted by the committee) and no further approvals will be given. Motorised Cart Use Notices regulating the movement of motorised golf carts are displayed within those carts and should be strictly observed. All persons who hire a motorised cart shall agree to abide by the following rules: › Two people only may ride on the cart; › Only two sets of golf clubs may be transported on the

cart; › Carts must not be driven within 5 metres of tees and

greens; › Soft ground and muddy areas must be avoided at all

times, as must areas of sandy rough; › Carts must be returned to the point of hire at completion

of a round.


RELATIONS WITH STAFF Under no circumstances may a player, or Club member, approach a member of staff with a complaint. All complaints, on any matter, are to be directed, preferably in writing, to the General Manager. In the interests of workplace health and safety regulations, course maintenance staff have priority on the golf course at all times. When a green is being cut, or other work is being performed by staff, players shall refrain from playing until it is clear to do so, or the member(s) of staff concerned indicate that play should continue. CALL UP ON PAR 3s It is the policy of the Club that it is not compulsory to call-up on par 3 holes. However, if a group is called up, then the following applies: › Where the following group reaches the tee prior to the

commencement of putting, the lowest handicap player in the group shall be responsible to ‘call up’ the following group when he/she is satisfied that all players in his/her group are safely situated. All balls in line with, or in close proximity to the hole, shall be marked prior to ‘call up’.

› The lowest handicap player in the following group shall, upon receiving the ‘call’, indicate whether his/her group accepts the call or wishes the group in front to play on.

› Having accepted the ‘call’, the lowest handicap player in the group must satisfy him/herself that all players in the calling group are safely situated prior to any member of his/her group playing from the tee.


INJURY AND DAMAGE Members are requested to report to the General Manager immediately or on completion of their round: › Any injury caused to any person; or › Any apparent damage caused to any property or vehicle,

whether within or outside of the Club boundary. EXTREME & DANGEROUS WEATHER During days of extreme weather, it is each golfer’s responsibility for knowing their limitations and to act in a responsible way to ensure their own safety. Electrical Storms Players are advised to seek the shelter of the clubhouse if electrical storms are observed in the vicinity of the course. Hot Weather All golfers are advised to take caution when playing in hot weather and to please note the following tips: › Ensure you keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water; › Wear appropriate clothing to cover yourself from UV rays

– wide brimmed hat, long sleeve top, etc.; › Always use an SPF 30+ sun screen (available in the

locker rooms); › Wear sunglasses with an EPF of 10 to protect your eyes; › Immediately inform your playing partners if you are

having any problems.


MEN’S TROPHY CONDITIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS Club Championship (Nov 2014) Open to all Full, Provisional, Intermediate and Junior male members with a handicap of twelve (12) or less. Thirty-six (36) holes scratch stroke play qualifying played on the one day. First eight (8) qualify for match play rounds over eighteen (18) holes. In the event of a tie, sudden death play-off in accord with Golf Australia provisions, will apply. The final played over thirty-six (36) holes. RF Stevens Trophy (Nov 2014) Leading qualifier in Club Championship qualifying rounds - in the event of a tie decided by sudden death playoff. B and C Grade Championships (Nov 2014) Open to Full, Provisional, Intermediate and Junior members. Thirty-six (36) holes scratch stroke play qualifying, played on consecutive Saturdays in conjunction with Club competition. First eight (8) qualify for match play rounds in each grade. The Tuohy Trophy (Aug 2014) Eighteen (18) holes handicap Canadian Foursomes open to pairings of two generations of family members, either Parent/Child or Grandparent/Grandchild (including step sons/daughters or step grandsons/granddaughters). All ties to be decided on countback. Handicap Match play: 1/2 of difference of combined handicap. . Each round to be played within stipulated date on draw sheet. If no results shown by due date both pairs will be disqualified. In the event of a match being squared at the 18th, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole by hole playoff with the appropriate strokes being given and received. Best stableford score in Grades ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’. In the event of a tie, winners to be decided on a countback. Shane Robinson Trophy (Mar 2014) To be played in conjunction with one Stableford round. Best overall Stableford score to count. In the event of a tie, the winner to be decided on a countback.


Eclectic Trophies given for best nett and gross in each grade. A full round not necessary for an alteration, but players must start from the first tee. Three grades, ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’. Half handicap on which last round is played will be applied to determine the nett score. The grade in which a player is eligible is determined by handicap on last day of play. Putting Competition Putts to be counted only when taken on specially prepared surface for putting. Three (3) rounds to be played, with all scores to count. Most Improved Player who the Match Committee considers to be most improved player during Winter Season as measured by reduction in handicap. Caddie Trophy (July 2014) Any member who has caddied for Women’s Pennant during the current season is eligible. To be played in conjunction with the competition of the day. Best nett score. In the event of a tie, winner to be decided on a countback. Veterans Handicap Event Players must be 60 years of age before day of play. Two qualifying rounds played on current handicap on each day of play. The best eight nett aggregate scores to qualify for match play. All ties for qualifying positions and gross aggregate will be decided on countback. Match play – full difference of handicap. Each round to be played within stipulated date on draw sheet. If no results shown by due date both competitors will be disqualified. International Bowl Silver and Bronze Divisions. (This competition is run to raise money to send Australian golfers overseas). Half combined handicaps shall be used. This is a State wide event and the winning card from each Club will be returned to Golf SA. The best nett score within Glenelg Golf Club will win a Shylie Rymill Brooch each. In the event of a tie a countback will apply. Golf SA Vardon Trophy (Jul 2014) For players handicap 15 and under. Different points allotted from State Events. 36 hole Stroke event, held on a Sunday.

Before using Reciprocal Rights with the clubs listed above, members should: › Obtain a handicap/introduction letter from the

Administration Office; › Telephone the club to be visited, at least a day before

you wish to play, for approval; › Upon arrival at the reciprocal club, report to the office

and present your handicap/introduction letter; › Ensure you conform with all rules and regulations of the

reciprocal club, including dress requirements. “Fully Reciprocal” usually indicates that it may be possible to transfer membership to the fully reciprocal club in the event that you move interstate or overseas. “Green Fees apply” usually indicates that a green fee is payable at a discounted rate for reciprocal members. Before seeking play, members are advised to clarify the nature of the reciprocal agreement with the Administration Office.
