  • Alfi has a dog called Podd.

Podd was a round with pudgy legsand a small pudgy nose.

Podd liked playing ball in the gardenand chasing birds round the garden.

    Page 1

  • One day Alfi and Podd were playingin the garden.

Pod was jumping up and trying tocatch a donut shaped ring Alfi wasthrowing for him.

Podd found he could jump extremelyhigh.

    Page 2

  • Regular visitors to Alfi's garden weresome large black Rooks.

They liked the garden as some timesAlfi left food for them, but betterthan that, it was full of nice bigworms and other creepy crawlysthat the Rooks liked to eat.

    Page 3

  • It was the Rooks that Podd likedto chase best but Podd beingchubby could never catch themand the Rooks always got away.

One day however Podd havinglearnt how to jump very highjumped for one of the Rooks.Podd managed to grab of few ofhis tail feathers.

The Rook squawked loudly butmanaged to get to the near bytree, less a few feathers.

    Page 4

  • All the Rooks gathered in the treethat evening.

They all agreed that Alfi's dog wasbecoming a bit of a nuisance andthat something must be done toteach it a lesson.

The Rooks could not think whatcould be done.

    Page 5

  • One day Alfi was in the gardenthrowing the donut shaped ringfor Podd to catch when it gotstuck in the branch of a tree.

Podd all excited at chasing thering, ran after the ring and withoutthinking climbed up the tree to thebranch where the donut shapedring was lodged.

    Page 6

  • Podd grabbed the ring and lookeddown at Alfi.

Suddenly realizing he was fifteenfoot up a tree Podd froze and gavea whimper.

"O dear" said Alfi what are youdoing up there.

    Page 7

  • The Rooks gathered in thebranches of the tree above Podd.

They were all looking very happy, here was a chance to teach Podd alesson about chasing birds.

    Page 8

  • The leader of the Rooks flew downto where Alfi was.

"Now there is a dog in a realmess." said Rook.

" Yes." said Alfi. " And I don'tknow how I am going to get himdown."

" I think we can help with that."said Rook." We are experts inflying, wind, falling and things."

Alfi ask if he would help.

    Page 9

  • The Rooks said they would put lotsof twigs through the donut shapedring Podd was holding.

The leaves on the twigs would actas a parachute and slow Podddown when he jumped off thebranch.

Alfi shouted to Podd to stay stillwhile the Rooks did this.

    Page 10

  • Holding onto as many twigs as theRooks could get into the donutshaped ring, Podd jumped from thebranch of the tree.

It worked the leaves slowed Poddto a gentle fall.

The Rooks watched as they knew athing or two about leaves and hadchosen the twigs very carefully.

    Page 11

  • After a few feet of gentle falling allthe leaves fell off the twigs.

Podd started to drop like a stone.

"O no" barked Podd and in theprocess let go of the donut shapedring and what remained of thetwigs and leaves.

    Page 12

  • Podd fell splat into the middle ofand old muddy pond that used tobe under the tree.

He was covered in mud and sowas Alfi.

    Podd never chased the Rooksagain.

    End

  • Secondly or possibly primarily, somewhere for my little cartoon characters to live. I have been adraftsman for many years and during idle moments and in meetings, especially in meetings, little characters get doodled. These characters seem to take on a little life of their own and hangaround in the mind until they eventually find a home in a story. They then seem to go away untilthe next one comes along. These books and the original web site is somewhere to share theselittle cartoon characters with. If they give anybody a little enjoyment then I am well pleased.

These original picture books are free to download, keep, copy, print and use quite freely withoutany restriction. Tony J Moon
