Armed Forces Day - Saturday 28th June 2014 Crosfields ARLFC - Warrington - WA5 1ET

Registered Charity No: 1146420

AMATUER RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB The Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy is an Armed Forces Rugby League event held on Armed Forces Day at Crosfields ARLFC in memoriam of Private Thomas Sephton. Tom was a Soldier from Warrington who served in the 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment (1 MERCIAN). In 2010 Tom deployed on operations to Afghanistan. On 4thJuly Tom was seriously wounded in an explosion whilst on patrol. After emergency treatment he was flown to the UK for further treatment, here with great sadness Tom tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day.

For many years Tom played Rugby League for Crosfields Amateur Rugby League Football Club. He was a key and influential part of the 2006 Crosfields ARLFC Under 16’s squad that swept all before them that year. It was Tom’s fellow team mates who came up with the original idea for a charity fund raising Rugby League match against a military team to be held in memory of their friend. With the help of Toms’ family, his friends, his 1 MERCIAN comrades and the Army Rugby League the match became a reality. Over the past 4 years the ‘Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy’ has grown into without doubt the biggest Amateur Rugby League occasion in Warrington … probably the North West! With over 4000 people attending and showing their support and respect in 2013 alone.

The event is, and will always remain, FREE TO ENTER with FREE PARKING We invite you to please come along and show your support to our Armed Forces on this very special day... You will be made VERY WELCOME.

On Saturday 28thJune 2014 ‘Armed Forces Day’ at Crosfields ARLFC, Hood Lane Recreation Ground, Great Sankey,

Warrington, Crosfields ARLFC are honoured to host 3 games of Extraordinary Armed Forces Rugby League. A Forces Triple Header.

First up, The 2013 Womens Rugby League Division 1 League Leaders, Crosfields Ladies RL will take on The 2013 Forces Womens Rugby League Champions, The Army Rugby League Ladies. The ladies will be battling for a silver salver, kindly by donated by ‘Her Rugby League Association’ and Director Angela Powers – ‘The Powers Plate’.

Secondly, for the third year in succession, the two Infantry Regiments that traditionally recruit from Warrington again go head to head to lift ‘The Coleridge Cup’. 1 MERCIAN versus the 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancasters’ Regiment (1 LANCS). This match is anything but a friendly! This is mate against mate and regimental pride is at stake! ‘The Coleridge Cup’ is presented in the name of Kingsman Tom Coleridge, a friend of Tom Sephtons’ family, a 1 LANCS and Warrington soldier, who himself was very seriously injured in Afghanistan during 2010.

The main event, sees the fifth annual ‘Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy’, Crosfields ARLFC Select XIII take on the current Army Rugby League Corps Champions, The Royal Logistic Corps Rugby League. The contest for the striking bronze Mortarman statuette promises to be passionate, robust and VERY physical … let battle commence!

Besides the 3 top class games of rugby league there will be numerous forces stands, stalls, activities and displays including an inflatable assault course, climbing walls, paintball ranges. Many forces, local and Rugby League charities, Rugby League stands and stalls including Warrington Wolves with their Try-Time inflatable with special appearances from star players and ‘Wolfie’! With hot food from the famous Crosfields BBQ team, FIVE bars and a new for 2014 the Kids-Zone there’s sure to be something for everyone!

Our charity fundraising revolves around the BIG TOM’BOLA RAFFLE, (we have some AMAZING PRIZES!) along with a regular tombola, the sale of the match day programme, sponsorship and donations,

The occasion was always meant to be a Military Charity Fundraiser and 2014’s chosen charity is The Army Benevolent Fund – ‘The Soldiers Charity’.
