Principal’s report

2015 school Captains

A big congratulations to the Year 5 captain nominees

who last Thursday presented their speeches to the

school (and to their very proud parents!). Voting has

been finalised, with the School and Vice Captain

positions being announced at next week’s Presentation

Night. Early next year, voting will be done for sporting

house captains and student council representatives –

lots of opportunities for our students to develop their

leadership skills.

Girl nominees: Grace, Dion, Mikayla, Grace, Jaylah,

Morgan, Makeeta, Maddison, Daminica and Trinity

Boy nominees: Patrick, James, Samuel, Nick, Lachlan,

Campbell, Tom, Brock, Craig and Jonty

K-2 excursion

Students from Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 are

today enjoying a wonderful time visiting the Junee

Licorice factory. Here they will get the opportunity to

visit with some friendly farm animals, and then enjoy

creating a yummy chocolate freckle!

Presentation Evening

Next Wednesday 10 December is our annual

Presentation Night award ceremony. The evening

commences at 6:30 pm in the Junee High School

Multi-purpose centre. This is an opportunity to

recognise and reward students for their efforts,

application and achievements. Students are expected

to wear correct summer uniform. We will have a mufti

day on the day of 10th

to ensure uniforms stay nice

and clean for Presentation night!

Medallion Assembly

It is wonderful to see the number of students who have

attained their Merit and Behaviour medallions! Next

Monday 8 December these medallions will be

presented at a special assembly commencing at 2:15

under the COLA. Due to there being so many to

present, a separate assembly was needed. Students

receiving one or both medallions will bring home a

letter this week. Please ensure that correct summer

uniform is worn next Monday (not sports uniform).

Our very special Merit and Behaviour medallions

Year 6 final days!

The countdown is on for our Year 6 students to enjoy

their last weeks of primary school. Several special

events are planned: A cricket fun day (for Year 5 & 6)

on Friday 12 December, the Year 6 dinner on Monday

15 December, a special movie excursion to Wagga on

Tuesday 16 December, and the final ringing of the bell

which will occur on Wednesday afternoon. I know that

these will add to the cherished memories they will take

with them of Junee North.

Goodbye Mrs Bostock

Sadly we will be losing the wonderful Mrs Bostock

from Junee North. Mrs Bostock has been working this

year at the newly formed Centre for Reading in Wagga.

Mrs Bostock has decided to take up this position on a

permanent basis. I would like to express our sincere

thanks and gratitude to Mrs Bostock for the wonderful

years of learning she has provided to many Junee

North students. She will be sorely missed. Her Assistant

Principal position should be advertised early next year.

Farewell Mrs Bostock

Goodbye Mrs Post

During Mrs Bostock’s absence, we have been extremely

fortunate to have secured Mrs Donna Post as the

relieving teacher on 3/4P. Mrs Post has done an

amazing job and I know that the students and parents

have been extremely grateful for the care and

nurturing she has provided. Unfortunately it will be

unlikely that we will have a position for Mrs Post next

year, but hopefully we can get her back in some

capacity as a casual teacher.

Welcome Mrs Manning

Joining our administration staff next year will be Mrs

Sharon Manning who was selected through Merit

Selection as our new School Administration Manager,

replacing Mrs Pengilly. Mrs Manning spent some time

many years ago at Junee North and is very excited to

be joining us.

Thank you Mrs Smith & Mrs Harpley

A sincere thank you to Mrs Julie Smith, who has

relieved in this role since Term 3 last year. Julie has

done a magnificent job in stepping into this very hectic

role. I know she is looking forward to returning to her

part-time role as our School Administration Officer. A

big thank you also to Mrs Natasha Harpley, who has

relieved in the administration officer role. These two

ladies have been an absolutely wonderful team and

have certainly made our office area a very positive and

fun place!

Thank you dynamic duo!

Thank you & Happy Holidays

This will be our last newsletter for 2014. Thank you to

our wonderful students and parents, and to the

amazing staff – another successful year! Have a happy

and safe holiday. Students return on Thursday 29

January 2015.

Kay

Thumbs up! To all of our Year 6 students – thank you for being

such a terrific bunch of children. We wish you every

success in your next chapter at high school. We will

miss you!

What’s happening in our school?

Maths Whizzes

As part of an Enrichment program, two of our Year 6

students – Luke Davis and Jordan Hawke, have been

participating in a term-long mathematics program run

by The Australian Mathematics Trust. The boys were

also involved during first semester in an initial

challenge stage of this program. Both boys were

awarded a Certificate of Credit for their efforts during

the Challenge Stage. Some of the problems were

extremely challenging – even stumping the staff at the

high school! Here’s an example of one – can you solve

it? (and it’s one of the easier ones!)

We drove from Canberra to Goulburn at an average

speed of 80 km/h, taking one and a half hours to get

there. How far did we travel?

Well done Luke & Jordan
