Dear friends of Santa Margarita Catholic High School,

The 2014-2015 academic year marked another two semesters of noteworthy accomplishments for Santa Margarita. We have a deeply committed group of faculty and staff working in support of our mission and charism, paired with our talented students who continue to excel in a variety of areas. Whether it is in the

classroom, on stage, on the field, or growing closer to our Lord through faith, Santa Margarita continues to be like “the light set upon a hill” in the Diocese of Orange.

This year was a year of growth for students, faculty and staff. The implementation of the One-to-One Tablet PC Program was a success and marked the beginning of a new era for our students and teachers. Through our tablet program, Santa Margarita was selected by Microsoft as a Microsoft Showcase School for its excellence in transforming its learning environment to deliver a more personalized education to students. The campus housed a record number of faculty members and staff this year to support the healthy student body, over 1,700 students strong. Numerous awards were won across the board showcasing the dedication and talents of our students.

All of the outstanding accomplishments would not be possible without the partnership with our parents, alumni, alumni parents and Eagle friends. This year we saw an increase in support in all areas of our fundraising and parental support with the gift of their time, talent and treasure. We realize an exceptional Catholic high school is not possible without your support and you have made it an outstanding year for the students.

As you review the accomplishments of the 2014-2015 school year, know that we head into the 2015-2016 school year with full enrollment and a waiting list. We know that this year will be another great year to be an Eagle.

Please know how much we appreciate your participation, prayers and contributions and ask for your continued support. Many years ago, Santa Margarita was the vision of a committed group of parents and that same commitment remains today due to your involvement.

Caritas Christi,

admissionsThe Admissions Office witnessed strong school awareness from our local communities with positive brand awareness of Santa Margarita Catholic High School. As a result, applications received were the second highest in the past 15 years (660+) and the resulting incoming freshman enrollment was a robust 440. Due to the enrollment figures, Santa Margarita started a waiting list for the fifth consecutive year, and overall school enrollment reached the school’s capacity numbers.

To help Santa Margarita attain these student numbers, the admissions team utilized the help of over 300 enthusiastic Student Ambassadors who represented the school at various admissions functions such as our Fall and Winter Open Houses, 8th Grade Visitation Day and the High School

Placement Test. The Student Ambassadors spoke with prospective students, met their parents and led tours of the school. Parent Docents (approximately 20) added their expertise in leading parent tours throughout the school year.In addition, more than 500 eighth grade students shadowed at Santa Margarita, getting a first-hand glimpse as to what life would be like as an Eagle.

The Fall Open House set record numbers in attendance, and the number of students taking the eighth grade High School Placement Test also showed strong growth patterns (over 440 potential eighth grade students took the exam in January). Actual and forecasted enrollment numbers place Santa Margarita in an enviable enrollment position that places the school in a promising financial position.

BLUE AND GOLD – AN EVENING UNDER THE STARSThis was an exciting year beginning with a new format for our annual gala, formerly know as Valentasia. With dedication, determination and energy, a new gala was born. Our newly formed Blue and Gold committee chaired by Ann Marie Jennison and Amy Cramer brought “An Evening Under the Stars” back home and to a new time of year. The Moiso Family Pavilion and Strader Grotto were transformed as never before. With over 560 guests in attendance, $202,000 was raised benefiting the Santa Margarita students.

EAGLE GOLF CLASSICThe 2015 golf tournament also took on a new format this year where many SMCHS athletic teams and programs came together in one tournament. 155 golfers enjoyed the day and 184 dinner guests enjoyed a fabulous silent auction and dinner. Through the generosity of our sponsors, underwriters, golfers and guests, $79,555 was raised benefiting the teams and programs involved.

EAGLE FUNDThe Eagle Fund is Santa Margarita Catholic High School’s annual fund and the largest fundraiser on campus that benefits all students and teachers. Every family at SMCHS is asked to make a gift to the Eagle Fund to support the continual upgrades of the campus, teacher appreciation, and tuition assistance which supports one in five Eagle students. Thanks to your support, the Eagle Fund raised $162,426 in 2014-2015. In addition, the Class of 2015 started a new tradition of giving back, with over 20% of the class giving $20.15 for their first gifts to SMCHS as alumni.

PURSUING EXCELLENCEOur major gifts program had an increase this year with contributions of $192,579. Gifts to the Pursuing Excellence program were dedicated to on-campus facilities and empowering the school to move forward with other campus projects.

A LEGACY OF PURSUING EXCELLENCE: Today | Tomorrow | AlwaysAs you walk through Santa Margarita, it is evident that our students have been blessed with a beautiful campus that was made possible by visionaries and generous contributors from the school’s inception. To honor all that have contributed a lifetime giving level of $25,000 or more, a beautiful monument was installed in the Strader Grotto. This gesture of appreciation will continue to grow and serve as a reminder to all who enter our campus that our Eagle community is the reason for our existence.

Dear Eagle Families and Friends,

Each year I am amazed at how quickly the school year has passed. As I look back over the year, I’m so honored to have worked with so many dedicated parents, alumni, alumni parents and friends who have made a difference for the students at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. Many of you have given generously of your time serving on our boards, committees and assisting with the many events that benefit the young men and women of our campus.

Additionally, many of you have given gifts of treasure that assist Santa Margarita in fulfilling our mission and carries on the generous philanthropy that founded our school, and still exists today. Your contributions to Santa Margarita truly make a difference in the lives of our students. Your gifts assist us in improving programs and facilities, upgrading technology, assisting families in need and retaining our outstanding faculty. All of this ensures that Santa Margarita is able to provide an exemplary college preparatory education for our students. After a tremendous year for Santa Margarita and the Class of 2015, it was only fitting that three students had the prestigious honor of representing their peers as valedictorians and salutatorian at graduation. Yvonne Kim and Katie Roschak shared the honor of being the valedictorians for the Class of 2015 by posting the highest GPA’s in their class over the course of seven semesters. Daniel Semeniuta, who scored a perfect 36 on his ACT and was one of two seniors to be named as a National Merit Scholar for 2015, was honored as Salutatorian. All three graduates addressed their fellow students at the graduation ceremony, offering memorable speeches that spoke to an appreciation of their four years at Santa Margarita, and a proclamation of future success for the Class of 2015 in all of their life endeavors. Kim now attends Northwestern, Roschak attends UCLA and Semeniuta attends Stanford.
