Non League Day 2014 Non-League Day was set up by James Doe in 2010 as a social media experiment, after be-ing inspired by a pre-season trip to Devon to watch Queens Park Rangers play at Tavistock. It has now grown to become an annual part of the football calendar, backed by Premier League and Football League clubs, MPs, celebrities, media organisations, charities and most importantly by you the fans who turn up on the day.

Always scheduled to coincide with an international break, Non-League Day provides a platform for clubs to promote the importance of affordable volunteer led community football while giving fans across the country the chance to show support for their local non-league side Like P&TG FC, many non-league clubs are almost exclusively volunteer run, with money taken on match day or through memberships funding thriving youth set-ups, projects and facilities which are of benefit to the whole community. The level of skill on offer at French Meadows will never compare to that at the Emir-ates Stadium or Old Trafford, for example, but there are other sides to the ex-perience, from which the smaller club will always win hands down. The vast majority of games still kick off at 3pm, ticket prices are realistic, you can often stand (and have a drink!) anywhere in the ground and will always be guaranteed a warm welcome by people who run their clubs for a love of the game. This year Prostate Cancer UK will be the official charity partner of Non-League Day 2014. The Non-League Day team were first drawn to the idea of partnering with Prostate Cancer UK by their ‘Men United v Prostate Cancer’ campaign which has seen them build an important relationship with The Football League and its member clubs Prostate Cancer UK’s Director of Fundraising, Mark Bishop said: ”Prostate cancer is killing one man every hour but many men still find it tough to

face up to important health issues. That’s why we have embarked on a very deliberate way of using football as a way of talking to men about this killer dis-

ease.”

Prostate Cancer UK are targetting football fans across the terraces up and down the country, raising awareness of the disease which affects 1 in 8 men sometime in their life and kills over 10,000 men a year. Remember to show your support today and give the “Thumbs Up” by including

the hashtag in your tweets:

FA Cup Preliminary Round

Ten clubs flew the flag for the Uhlsport Hellenic League in the Preliminary Round of this season’s FA Cup. Sadly, by the final whistle this figure was whit-tled down to just four teams progressing to the first Qualifying round and there-fore hearty congratulations are due to Abingdon Utd, Flackwell Heath, Milton Utd and Thame Utd. The weekend’s action commenced on a very inclement Friday evening at Alfre-dian Park where last season’s Hellenic league Champions, Wantage Town hosted Kidlington. In a very good match to watch, Wantage Town won 3-2. Ab-ingdon Utd left it late but beat Egham Town 1-0 with a goal from Kieran Davis. Milton Utd had a tremendous result in beating Former Hellenic League Champi-ons of a couple of years ago, Marlow Town by 2-1 with goals from Rob Joyce and Conor Harris. In a similar vein, Flackwell Heath did very well in winning 2-1 away at North Leigh Thame Utd made a remarkable comeback from 0-2 down with five minutes remaining to beat fellow Hellenic League opponents, Highmoor Ibis 3-2. Of the teams that went out, Ascot Utd narrowly went down 0-1 to Bishops Cleeve. Highworth Town travelled to Hampshire to Face Blackfields & Langley but could make no impression going down 0-4. Cheltenham Saracens lost 1-3 at home to Fleet Town. Wootton Bassett Town lost 1-2 at Bradford Town and Shrivenham were soundly beaten at home 1-6 by Shortwood Utd.
