PORT OF ENTRY
Texas’ location and diverse economy offer unique trade opportunities and make it a critical gateway to global business. Our state boasts 29 OFFICIAL PORTS of entry facilitating nearly $650 BILLION in international trade in 2015. Trade through Texas supports an estimated 1.6 MILLION TEXAS JOBS and adds $224.3 BILLION to GSP annually.
Ports of entry play a crucial role in making Texas the world’s 10TH LARGEST ECONOMY. They affect every part of our state, from our largest cities to rural counties. As the state’s chief financial officer, I hope highlighting their benefits will emphasize their importance to strong, diverse and growing regional economies.

LAREDO BRIDGE SYSTEM
Laredo’s border crossings include five bridges between the U.S. and Mexico. Four of these are city-owned vehicular bridges. The fifth is a railroad bridge owned and operated by Kansas City Southern Railway Company, though the city controls southbound operations, employing 182 people and collecting $60 million in tolls. In addition to bridge employees, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol employs 1,950 customs field officers and 1,770 Border Patrol agents.

LAREDO IS THE LARGEST COMMERCIAL CROSSING FROM MEXICO INTO TEXAS.
As the largest commercial crossing from Mexico into Texas, Laredo allows millions of commercial vehicles to transport goods between our state and Mexico. It also serves as a key piece of the Texas land port network, which in 2015 accounted for $204 BILLION in trade from 2 million trucks and more than 3,600 trains.
Trucks, trains and pedestrians use Laredo’s bridges, creating healthy growth in trade that boosts the local economy and stimulates industries from retail to warehousing, and has helped build Texas into the nation’s largest exporter — and the world’s 10TH LARGEST ECONOMY.
