How did we choose our partners?

Each hotel was carefully selected from among thirty Washington D.C. hotels. We looked at value, comfort, location, amenities, and many other factors before selecting each hotel. All of our hotel partners went through a rigorous screening which included extensive research, customer reviews, a site visit, meeting with members of management, and discussing the needs and welfare of our guests.

Why choose one of these hotels to stay at?

In addition to having superior accommodations, each hotel has made a commitment to you, the newest members of our Georgetown Family. They all offer discounts ranging from 10 - 20% off or greatly reduced rates for most dates throughout the year*, and all guarantee the lowest rates available through our partnership. In addition, each hotel has contributed a significant monetary donation to Georgetown’s Family Fund to be used for programming and services during events like Parent and Family Orientation and Parents Weekend.

What other events besides NSO/PFO should I make hotel reservations?

We are excited that our partnership extends beyond NSO and PFO, which means anytime you come to town, you are eligible to use the discounts.* While most families come for Parent and Family Orientation, we encourage you to visit throughout the year. For more information please visit our website parents.georgetown.edu. We love when our parents and families visit campus!

Pre-OrientationGeorgetown is fortunate to have six, diverse Pre-Orientation programs that

occur before New Student Orientation (NSO) and provide you with opportunities for discovery and adventure. Whether you explore the outdoors, volunteer on community service projects, enhance your leadership skills, or broaden your scholarly horizons, you will learn more about yourself and meet new friends.

HOW TO APPLYTo Apply for BUILD, FOCI, GOPOP, L&B, PEP or YLEADPlease complete the online Pre-Orientation Application: tinyurl.com/preorientation2014 Applications are due by 11:59 p.m.on Monday, June 16, 2014.

BUILD is an intensive academic and leadership development program designed for incoming business students. This pre-orientation program is designed for students who have not had an opportunity to take calculus, statistics or economics in high school and want to immerse themselves in the language of business before classes begin. It will welcome new students in the McDonough School of Business into a community that prizes the attributes of effective communication, principled leadership, and integrated business knowledge.

GOPOP offers an exciting way for new Georgetown students to bond with their incoming classmates. Travelling through the backcountry or adventuring through D.C., participants will have the chance to explore the wild, overcome challenges, and ease into their transition to college. Groups will be around 8-12 students led by trained Georgetown student guides. We encourage you to look through these trips and join Georgetown University Outdoor Education on a truly unforgettable adventure!

PEP seeks to integrate new students into the entire university community in order to provide them with a foundation for success in their time on the Hilltop. PEP participants, led by fifteen student mentors, have the opportunity to explore the District, learn how to navigate campus resources and departments, meet deans and campus leaders, network with Georgetown alumni, and build their campus community.

First-year orientation to community involvement (FOCI)’s goal is to serve as an introduction to community service, volunteer activism, and social justice issues in the Washington, D.C. community. FOCI participants will actively engage in community service; discover and reflect on the diverse populations, perspectives, and roles in the Georgetown and Washington, D.C. communities; develop the capacity for leadership; and become part of a community committed to personal growth through service and reflection.

Leadership and Beyond is a weeklong pre-orientation program for first-year students that introduces new Hoyas to life on the Hilltop and the leadership opportunities waiting for them at Georgetown! Nine Mentors and two student Coordinators will welcome the participants and guide them as they identify their personal leadership styles, engage in servant leadership, reflection and self-assessment, and build a strong community on the Hilltop!

YLEAD is a week-long leadership program for first-year students and transfer students who are interested in and passionate about diversity and social justice. This pre-orientation program seeks to engage Georgetown students in the exploration of their identities and in reflective dialogues about diversity, with the goal of encouraging them to effect positive change on campus and in their communities.

Living Learning Communities empower students to integrate academic achievement with co-curricular programs in a collaborative environment allowing students to connect with faculty, staff and fellow Hoyas.

Living Well community members are a diverse group of students who commit to living a well-balanced and engaged lifestyle and choose to share these values with other like-minded individuals. Students discuss and participate in activities examining how to pursue a balanced life in mind, body, and soul. In this community, all students choose to live their lives free of alcohol, tobacco, and other mind-altering substances both on and off campus.Open to all class years.

If you are an incoming first year, transfer or international student who is passionate about issues of social justice and building respect for diversity in all its forms—and if you want to live with and learn from students who are—JDA members hope you will apply. The JDA Community is most eager to welcome you and help you feel at home from day one on the fourth floor of McCarthy Hall. Open to all class years.
