Each class will have 4-5 speakers from varied global, religious and ethnic backgrounds throughout the school year.
*A speaker representing a refugee or immigrant group that has resettled in Akron
*An international student or scholar speaker *A speaker representing a diverse faith present in our
community- Islam, Judaism, Bahia, Sikh, Buddhist, Hindu...

*Teams from each school will partner selecting a matching country and create a power point presentation exploring: A day in the life of 6th grader in the selected country.
*Journalistic Interviews– The class will prepare interview questions for the speaker and will create a video news report and a written news report to share with their partner class and to post on the Akronist—Akron Digital Media Center—as citizen
journalists.
*Lessons in peaceful change & conflict resolution- A class will represent a country and be given a scenario that requires the use of diplomatic skills.

Refugee groups that have resettled in Akron over the past couple of decades- 350- 450 per year arrive in our community- often from refugee camps or to because they can not return to their country of origin
