OUR PROCESS
Three-Hour Meetings:
November 12 December 17 February 4 March 18 April 22 May 6 May 27
Established protocols so all voices would be heard
Consolidated different purposes and orientations
Found a common ground
OUR MISSION
The Orange Elementary Public Schools recognizes that the wellness of each child is a shared responsibility of every member of our community and that a healthy lifestyle fuels learning. Our mission is to promote education and support informed choices for:
Nutrition Physical activity Overall well-being
Our goal is to give our students the tools they need to be healthy and active throughout their lives.
WHAT’S BEST FOR KIDS?
Question: Isn’t healthy eating the responsibility of the family and not the schools?
A shared responsibility
Our job is to support parents in helping children establish lifelong habits
Health curriculum requirements should be supported with actions
Foods which do not meet guidelines should only be served to children at their own parents’ discretion.
WHAT’S BEST FOR KIDS?
Question: Doesn’t this policy take all the fun out of celebrations?
It’s all in our approach
Celebrations can be just as much fun with fruit kabobs and applesauce bars
We asked, “What’s best for children?” and couldn’t argue with, “Healthy choices!”
WHAT’S BEST FOR KIDS?
Question: What about the cafeteria?
Also addressing the cafeteria
School lunch menus will be revised
