Versus the Matadors - Cal State Northridge leads the all-time series 24-12. The series began in 1981 with the first four games tak-ing place at the Rainbow Easter Tournament. From 1993-97 the two teams played home and away series, but the last time they played prior to last year’s Big West contests was in 2004 when the Matadors won two of three games at Les Murakami Stadium. CSUN swept the ‘Bows last season at LMS but a handful of current UH players had standout perfor-mances. Kalei Hanawahine batted .714 (5-7) for the series with three runs, two doubles, and three RBI. Conner George batted .455 (5-11) and Stephen Ventimilia added four hits, one double, and two RBI.

April Sweeps - The last time the ‘Bows were

swept in consecutive conference series was in 2002, Coach Trapasso’s first season as head coach. while when UH was still a member of the Western Athletic Conference. UH, who went 16-40 that season and 5-25 in the WAC, were swept at Nevada and Fresno State to close the season.

Looking Ahead - Following the Cal State Northridge series, the ‘Bows will play Southern California on Tuesday before closing the trip at Cal State Fullerton. The Trojans have a 28-25 lead in the all-time series and most recently played in 2010 when USC won three of four games at Les Murakami Stadium.

‘Bows, Titans on ESPNU - Cal State Fullerton and Hawai‘i will play two games on ESPNU in late April. ESPNU will broadcast back-to-back contests from Goodwin Field on Saturday, April 26 at 5:00 p.m. (PDT) and Sunday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. (PDT).

Scheduling Tough - In the latest Warren Nolan index, UH has the 3rd toughest schedule in the nation and an RPI of 50. Boyd’s World has UH’s RPI at 50 which is updated daily.

Who’s On Third - LJ Brewster started the sea-son at third but his lack of production through the first 17 games of the season forced him out of the lineup. He was hitting .108 (4-37) with six runs and two RBI). Juliene Jones then became the everyday third baseman for the next 15 games but batted .120 during that stretch before getting lifted for Jerry Kleman for the Cal Poly finale. Conner George has also seen action at third and is batting .108 overall.

It’s Miller Time - With Marcus Doi listed as day-to-day with an injury and Trevor Podratz hitting sub-.500, Coach Trapasso was in need of someone to fill the DH spot and may have found it in Matt Miller. Miller batted .429 (3-7) in two starts and a pinch hit appearance against Cal Poly, including two hits and a walk in the finale. In seven games this season he is batting .357 (5-14) with one run, two RBI, and three walks.

Dishwashing - Trevor Podratz and Alan Baldwin had seen the lionshare of action at catcher but to date are hitting a combined .178. Up until the second game of the Cal Poly series, newcomer Steven Pollakov had been used sparingly behind the plate but started the second two games of the series over which he

hit .375 (3-8) with a two-hit, one-RBI performance on Sunday.

New and Improved - Les Murakami Stadium is scheduled to replace its current scoreboard with a new state-of-the-art video board out in right centerfield. The active area will be comparable to the size of the current board. The board is scheduled to be fully operational for the start of UH’s next home series (May 2).

Coming Through The Gates - Hawai‘i currently ranks 16th nationally and first in the west region in attendance. The ‘Bows have an average attendance of 3,152 over 26 home contests. LSU is tops in the nation with an average attendance figure of 10, 746.

Honoring the Les - In recognition of the 30th anniversary of Les Murakami Stadium, Senator Brian Taniguchi and House Representative Isaac Choy presented certificates (one each from the Senate and House) to legendary UH baseball head coach Les Murakami Stadium. Also in attendance for the pregame ceremony was UH AD Ben Jay.

‘Bows Picked 6th - The Big West Conference announced its baseball preseason order of finish with the University of Hawai‘i picked to finish in sixth place for the second straight season. The poll was voted on by the nine conference coaches. Cal State Fullerton was picked to win its fifth straight title, garnering all but one first-place vote. UC Irvine received one first-place vote in finishing fourth. Hawai‘i, who begins its second season in the league, received 33 votes, six ahead of UC Riverside.
