CyberKnife® Overview CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery is a treatment option for cancerous and noncancerous lesions. This non-invasive treatment delivers high-dose radiation to tumors from different angles adjusting for tumor and patient movement (breathing) during treatment. Traditional radiation treatments are unable to deliver high dose radiation without exposing a large margin of surrounding tissue to the radiation. As a result, treatment often occurs over many sessions (up to 45 treatment days) using low doses of radiation. Conversely, CyberKnife uses its advanced tracking system to target tumors from multiple angles and deliver high doses of radiation over a shorter course of time, specifically no more than five treatment sessions. Utilizing this approach, healthy tissues are minimally exposed to the radiation resulting in few to no side effects and return to normal activities right after treatment.

Lung Cancer & CyberKnife Treatment St. Louis CyberKnife treats lung cancer patients who cannot tolerate surgery, have an inoperable tumor, or are seeking an alternative to surgery. CyberKnife has gained recognition as an effective treatment for patients with medically inoperative early stage nonsmall cell lung cancer. The challenge of treating lung tumors is that the tumor moves as the patient breathes. Unlike traditional radiation therapy, the CyberKnife system identifies the tumor location during non-invasive treatment. The tightly contoured beams move precisely with the motion of the target throughout the breathing cycle, requiring no breath holding or respiratory gating. Thus allowing patients to breathe normally and remain comfortable during treatment.

Treatment is delivered by St. Louis CyberKnife’s radiation oncologist and highly trained staff. St. Louis CyberKnife provides a non-invasive, painless and comfortable treatment with no recovery time.
