Kelvin Queliz enters his first year as the director of sports information at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
Queliz joined the Javelina athletic staff on July 21, 2014, and will oversee the daily operations of the sports information office and all 12 sports on JavelinaAthletics.com.
The New York City native spent the previous year as the assistant director of athletic communica-tions at Florida Tech. There, he was the main sports information director for six sports – men’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis and volleyball – while also assisting in all game day promotions and marketing for football. In their inaugural season, Florida Tech’s football program earned a victory in the first-ever ECAC Futures Bowl Game.
At FIT, he oversaw the development of FloridaTechSports.com and was one of the official statisti-cians for football. Under his watch, men’s basketball redshirt sophomore Corbin Jackson was featured on ESPN’s Sportscenter’s Top 10 Plays on Jan. 7 after dunking over a defender. The play ranked No. 4 on the 1 a.m. ET live edition of the telecast.
Prior to working in the Panthers’ athletic communications office, Queliz was the assistant athletic director for sports information at the City College of New York. Overseeing the daily operations of CCNY athletics, he redesigned the CCNYAthletics.com website in Jan. 2013 and headed a promo-tional campaign for United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year Thierry Diessongo.
The 25-year old received his Bachelors of Science in Sports Management from the University of Delaware on May 28, 2011. Queliz also minored in legal studies and earned a business certificate. Assisting in the sports information office at UD, he was named the assistant media relations director at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La. in Oct. 2011. Queliz was the main contact for baseball, volleyball and bowling and was the home statistician for men’s and women’s basketball.
Three baseball student-athletes received honors during his year at LA Tech as freshman Phil Maton was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, and Jeb Stefan and Alex Williams were drafted in the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Queliz resides in Kingsville, Texas. He has been an active member of the College Sports Informa-tion Directors of American (CoSIDA) for three years and Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors of America (ECAC-SIDA) for two years.
