Head Coach18th Season
Loyola Chicago, 1985
Faith Mimnaugh enters her 18th sea-son as the head coach of the Cal Poly
women’s basketball program having led the Mustangs to either the NCAA Tournament or the WNIT for four years in a row.
Overall since 2008-09, Mimnaugh has coached Cal Poly to a 113-75 record, in-cluding 70-28 in the Big West Conference (a .714 winning percentage).
Of the 33 Division I coaches on the West Coast, only Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer came into 2014-15 with a high-er in-conference winning percentage with her program over that same time span.
Mimnaugh’s teams have led the Big West in both scoring and field goal per-centage in four of the last six years, aver-aging 70.2 points per game over that time. They’ve also been No. 1 in the conference in 3-point accuracy on all but one occasion since 2007-08.
Most recently, in 2013-14, Mimnaugh guided Cal Poly to a second-place finish in the Big West standings, before the Mus-tangs went on to reach the conference tour-nament championship game for the fourth time in six years.
While averaging a double-double (16.9 points; 10.1 rebounds), senior center Molly Schlemer earned her second consecutive all-conference first-team status. She helped the Mustangs win the league’s rebounding title at 44.5 per game, the highest average the Big West had seen in 15 years.
Following her senior season, Schle-
mer (the fifth-leading scorer and rebounder in program history) was invited to the Pro-Hoops Combine in Nashville, Tenn., and then played on the NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars Tour of China.
Meanwhile in the backcourt, both start-ers for Cal Poly, Jonae Ervin and Ariana El-egado, tied atop the Big West leaderboard for assists, distributing 4.5 each. (Ervin also led the league in that category as a junior, when the Mustangs ranked 22nd nationally as a team, with 15.9 per night.)
As a sophomore, Ervin made more history, etching her name into the NCAA record book by tying to lead the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (at 2.67). Ervin went on to finish her career with 467 assists, an all-time school record.
Schlemer (1,133), Ervin (1,072) and Elegado (1,065) also became a rare trio to each surpass the 1,000 career points pla-teau all in the same season. They were the fourth, fifth and sixth players Mimnaugh has coached in San Luis Obispo to reach that milestone.
In 2012-13, Schlemer was named a FullCourt.com mid-major All-American
honorable mention after finishing 10th in the country in field goal percentage (54.2) while also being selected as the conference player of the year and the Big West Tourna-ment MVP.

2014-15 Cal Poly Mustangs
Women’s Basketball Meet the MustangsTournament final, 63-49, Cal Poly advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where the Mus-tangs faced No. 3 seed Penn State in Baton Rouge for the first round.
In the previous season, the Mustangs won their second regular-season confer-ence title in a row. Senior forward Kristina Santiago was fifth in the country in scoring, at 23.4 points per game, along with 9.9 re-bounds, while becoming Cal Poly’s all-time leading scorer (1,953) and rebounder (850).
Santiago, who earned an All-American honorable mention from the Associated Press, has since become a professional star overseas. In May, she won her second straight Bulgarian playoffs MVP award as her club, Dunav 8806, won back-to-back NBL championships.
A year earlier, in 2010-11, Mimnaugh was honored with her second Big West Coach of the Year award after the Mus-tangs finished in first place in the standings.
Cal Poly ranked 10th in the nation in 3-point shooting that season (at 37.1 per-cent), led by Rachel Clancy, a guard who not only earned the Big West Player of the Year award, but also was a third-team Aca-demic All-American. Clancy went on to play professionally for Real Canoe Natacion in Spain.
One year prior, in 2009-10, the Mus-tangs shot 38.8 percent from 3-point range, ranking second in the country.
Altogether, Mimnaugh has now coached the Big West Player of the Year in four of the past five seasons.
She has seen her players named to the all-conference team 35 times at Cal Poly, plus eight all-freshman team honors, 11 all-tournament team selections and 38 player of the week accolades.
Her players have also won the Big West Best Hustle Award six times since 2001, in-cluding in 2014, when junior forward Taryn Garza was recognized for her effort.
Additionally, off the court, Mimnaugh has fostered a culture in which her players have earned All-Academic honors from the conference 32 times.
A four-year All-Mid-Suburban League and three-time all-area selection at Elk Grove High School in Illinois, Mimnaugh (1977-81) assisted the Grenadiers to the 1981 Class AA state championship. Mim-naugh, selected to the 1981 all-state team, helped Elk Grove compile an 84-22 mark during her four-year prep career.
She played collegiately at Loyola Chi-cago (1981-85) and remains the Ramblers’
career assists leader (1,000).The 316 assists Mimnaugh handed out
during her 1984-85 senior season not only led the nation, but are still the ninth-highest single-season total in NCAA Division I his-tory. Her 11.7 per-game figure as a senior remains the second-best average in Divi-sion I history.
The Ramblers went 79-32 during Mim-naugh’s tenure. For her collegiate accom-plishments, Mimnaugh was inducted into the Loyola Hall of Fame in 1992.
In 2007, Mimnaugh was also inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Asso-ciation Hall of Fame.
Mimnaugh began her post-collegiate playing career with the Newcastle (Aus-tralia) Scorpions, serving as a guard and player-coach from 1987-89.
She began building her coaching rep-utation as an assistant at North Carolina State from 1989-93. While with the Wolf-pack, she oversaw the operation of a pro-gram that reached as high as No. 2 in the national polls. While working under legend-ary head coach Kay Yow (the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team coach), Mimnaugh helped propel the team to the 1990 ACC title and the 1991 ACC Tournament championship.
Mimnaugh earned her master’s degree in sports administration from North Carolina State in 1994.
The University of Evansville named Mimnaugh its head coach in 1993. She led the Purple Aces in their move from the Mid-
western Collegiate Conference up to the Missouri Valley Conference.
Mimnaugh came to San Luis Obispo to serve as Karen Booker’s top assistant in 1996-97. Aside from her coaching duties at the time, she spearheaded the Mustangs’ weight-training program and assisted with recruiting.
In 2008, Mimnaugh became one of two Cal Poly coaches to have managed an Olympic gold medalist, after former center and Mustang track and field star Stephanie Brown Trafton (1998-00) won the discus competition at the Beijing Summer Games.
Several of Mimnaugh’s assistants have also been picked to lead their own pro-grams at the college level, including Amy Starr (currently the associate head coach at Montana State), Marcia Foster (who was the head coach at Cal State Fullerton for four years and now serves in the same ca-pacity at Fullerton College) and Bo Browder (a 16th-year head coach at Xavier Univer-sity in Louisiana). Two more just became head coaches before the start of the 2013-14 season: Kerri Nakamoto (at Cal State Monterey Bay) and Julie Shaw (La Verne).
Mimnaugh is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, credentialed through the National Strength and Condi-tioning Association, and is also a member of the U.S. Weightlifting Federation.
Mimnaugh, who competed with Ath-letes In Action in 1985, is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Rachel Clancy (shown at left during the team’s Media Day in 2010) was a third-team Academic All-American in 2010-11, while Kristina Santiago (right) earned Associated Press All-America honorable mention status the next year.
ari
uperron
Associate Head CoachFourth SeasonCal Poly, 2003
In her first three seasons back at Cal Poly, Kari Duperron helped the Mus-
tangs reach the postseason every year. After a first-place finish atop the Big
West Conference standings in 2011-12, the 2012-13 season culminated with a Big West Tournament championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, followed by a second WNIT bid last year.
Altogether, Cal Poly has gone 36-14 in conference play (a .720 winning percent-age) with her in the huddle.
A former Mustang herself, Duperron went from a walk-on freshman to the team’s leader in minutes as a junior and senior. In the latter year, she was a team captain and was awarded the conference’s Best Hustle award. All three years since she came back to San Luis Obispo, Mustang players have won the same honor.
With Duperron reinforcing that kind of work ethic, Cal Poly was rewarded with back-to-back Big West team rebounding titles in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
Initially brought in to focus on the de-velopment of post players, Duperron began to work with Molly Schlemer at the start of the center’s sophomore year. Schlemer saw her averages jump by 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds as a junior, when she finished 10th in the country in field goal percentage (54.2).
Duperron also mentored the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in school his-tory, Kristina Santiago. During the power
forward’s senior year, she ranked fifth in the country in scoring, at 23.4 points per game (on 56-percent shooting), along with 9.9 rebounds, on her way to becoming an Associated Press All-American honorable mention.
Santiago is now starring profession-ally. In 2014, she won her second straight Bulgarian playoffs MVP award as her club, Dunav 8806, won back-to-back NBL cham-pionships.
In addition to being the program’s re-cruiting coordinator, Duperron also now works closely with the Mustang guards. She helped junior Ariana Elegado to an all-conference first-team season in which she made the sixth-most 3-pointers in Big West history (86) and led the league in assists.
Duperron came to Cal Poly from the University of Washington, where she helped put together the No. 37-ranked recruiting class in the nation in 2011. Her other du-ties with the Huskies included scouting and working with the guards.
While in Seattle, Duperron coached an All-Pac-10 First Team member in Kristi Kingma and an all-conference defensive honorable mention in Charmaine Barlow. She also supervised the program’s aca-demic progress and served as the liaison to the compliance department.
Before joining the staff at UW, Duper-ron spent two years at UNLV. Serving as the recruiting coordinator, she helped bring in the No. 56-ranked class in the nation in 2009. Duperron also focused on the Lady Rebels’ guard play, and contributed to of-fensive game planning and scouting.
Also while at UNLV, she was heavily involved in the team’s community service and marketing campaigns, and conducted several free youth clinics, including a free pre-game one that drew more than 300 girls. She also was the Lady Rebel Team and Day Camp Director.
Duperron began her coaching career at UCLA (2003-07), where she started as an intern before being elevated to the direc-tor of basketball operations and an interim assistant coach.
During the 2007-08 season, Duper-
ron returned to her high school alma mater, North Torrance, as the assistant boys varsi-ty coach. Alongside her father, head coach Gary Duperron, the Saxons won their first league title since 1972.
As a player, Duperron finished her ca-reer earning two all-conference honorable mentions for the Mustangs. She still holds the Big West Tournament record for free throws attempted in a game (19).
Duperron graduated from Cal Poly in business in 2003, and added her master’s degree in sports management from Long Beach State in 2006.
As a player at Cal Poly, Duper-ron won the Big West Best Hustle award in 2002-03. She still holds the conference tournament record for free throws attempted in a game (19).

Assistant CoachSixth Season
Cal, 2005
During her first five seasons on the staff at Cal Poly, Kristin Iwanaga has helped
the Mustangs win three Big West champi-onships while going 59-23 in conference play (a .720 winning percentage).
In addition to specializing with the team’s perimeter player development, Iwa-naga assists with the program’s recruiting, scouting and camps.
A former point guard at Cal, Iwanaga coached both the co-Big West assist lead-ers in 2013-14, as Jonae Ervin and Ariana Elegado tied by averaging 4.5 each for the 38th-highest scoring team in the nation.
Ervin also led the league in assists as a junior, a year after leading the entire coun-try in assist-to-turnover ratio (at 2.67). She finished her career as the school record-holder for assists (467).
Additionally, both Ervin (1,072) and El-egado (1,065) surpassed the 1,000-point milestone this past season.
With Iwanaga on the bench, Cal Poly has made it to the conference tournament title game in three of the past four years.
In 2013, the Mustangs defeated Pacific 63-49 to earn a trip to the NCAA Tourna-ment for a first-round matchup with No. 3 seed Penn State at LSU.
Ball movement and outside shooting have been a key to the consistent success, as Iwanaga has helped direct an offense that has been No. 1 in the conference in 3-point accuracy every year but once since she arrived in San Luis Obispo (including
the No. 2 percentage in the country her first year, 38.8 percent).
In 2012-13, the team’s 15.9 assists per game ranked 22nd in the country, carrying on a recent staple of the program (Cal Po-ly’s average of 18.3 in 2009-10 was fourth nationally).
Iwanaga still holds both the Pac-12 free-throw percentage records for a career (.890) and single season (.934 — via an 85-for-91 display in 2004-05, when she led the country in the category).
Also as a senior for the Golden Bears, she set the Pac-10 single-season record for 3-point shooting (.524) while earning all-conference second-team honors.
Iwanaga was a four-year starter in Berkeley, as well as a three-time Pac-10 All-Academic honoree.
She departed the program ranked fourth in school history in 3-pointers made (122), seventh in games played (115) and ninth in assists (317).
Iwanaga came to the Central Coast
from St. Francis High School in Watsonville, where she served as the varsity basketball coach for the previous two seasons and as the assistant athletics director and chair of the Social Sciences Department.
During two seasons under Iwanaga, the Sharks compiled a 45-16 record, posted a pair of runner-up showings in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League, won the 2009 SCCAL Tournament title and reached the semifinals of the 2008 Northern California Division V Championships.
Prior to her tenure at St. Francis, Iwa-naga also served as the head coach of the San Jose Cagers AAU White squad and was the assistant JV coach at her alma ma-ter, Archbishop Mitty HS in San Jose.
Iwanaga graduated from Cal in 2005 with a degree in sociology.
She also earned a master’s degree in sports management from American Univer-sity in 2009.
Iwanaga was the nation’s leading free-throw shooter as a senior at Cal in 2004-05, at .934. She also set a Pac-12 record for 3-point accuracy (.524) that season.

Assistant CoachSecond Season
Washington, 2012
In her first year with Cal Poly, Mackenzie Argens helped lead the Mustangs to the
Big West Tournament championship game and the WNIT.
With her working primarily with the team’s post players, Cal Poly led the con-ference in rebounding, at 44.5 boards per game — the most throughout the Big West in 15 years.
After tying for 31st in the country in double-doubles (15), Mustang center Molly Schlemer was chosen to the all-conference first team.
Power forward Taryn Garza was also a significant factor on the glass, finishing the season outrebounding every other player on the floor in four of the last 11 games on her way to winning the league’s Best Hustle award.
Argens also contributes to the pro-gram’s social media, video and marketing campaigns.
She finished her career at Washington in 2011-12 having started in 98 of the 121 games in which she played. After working her way back onto the court following ACL and meniscus injuries her first two years, Argens averaged 6.1 rebounds between her junior and senior seasons. Her 84 ca-reer blocks tied for the fifth-most in school history.
Argens was a team captain in her final year, when the Huskies went 20-14 while advancing to the quarterfinals of the WNIT.
While a student-athlete at UW, Argens
was voted by her teammates to be a peer advocate mentor for nearly two years, and she was the team’s representative for the campus’ Student-Athlete Advisory Council. After her freshman and sophomore sea-sons, Argens also interned for the depart-ment’s marketing and media offices.
In the year prior to coming to Cal Poly,
Argens coached at her alma mater, Roo-sevelt High School in Seattle, and was in-vited to attend the WBCA’s annual “So You Want To Be A Coach” program held at the Final Four.
Argens graduated from Washington with a degree in interdisciplinary visual arts in 2012.
Argens was a team captain as a senior at Washington in 2011-12. Her 84 career blocks are the fifth-most in Huskies history.

Chemnitz (upper-left), which also features the German National Team captain in point guard Tina Menz, plays in the Damen Basketball Bundesliga, the country’s premier league, consist-ing of 12 clubs.
The move for the 6-foot-5 center came after an offseason that included an invitation to the ProHoops Combine in Nashville, Tenn., as well as a nine-game stint on the NetScouts USA All-Stars Tour of China (upper-right).
Middle-right: After a stay with Hapoel Rishon LeZion in Israel, Kris-tina Santiago rejoined Dunav 8806 in December of 2013.
The former All-America honorable mention (standing seventh in from the left) averaged 17.5 points and 9.0 re-bounds as a second-year pro.
Lower-right: Rachel Clancy (6), a former third-team Academic All-Amer-ican, played for Real Canoe Natación in Madrid during the fall of 2011.
Schlemer, Santiago and Clancy all were honored as Big West Conference Players of the Year as Mustangs.

Stephanie Brown Trafton aver-aged 5.5 rebounds as a true freshman in 1998-99 before a knee injury cut the 6-foot-4 center’s career short prema-turely in her sopho-more season.
Also a track and field star, however, she went on to win the Olympic gold medal in the discus competition in Bei-jing in the summer of 2008.
In doing so, the former Mustang became the first American woman to win the gold in the event since the 1932 Games.
On May 4, 2012, she also set an all-time Ameri-can record with a throw of 222 feet, 3 inches.
