Serving God in Peru - LCMS International

The DiLibertos

February 2013 We praise God for all His provisions and

blessings in the month of February! Julia and I had

a great trip to Lunahuana with the members of the

South Dakota team at the beginning of the month.

We were able to meet with and pray with our

closest friends. We also celebrated the Lord’s

Supper with Fabiola, our one confirmed member

in Lunahuana.

On February 16, a group from Grace

Lutheran church in Midland, Texas arrived to

help us with a vacation Bible school in La Victoria

where Anthony is working with the Mercy House.

The first day we had the lowest attendance with 42

kids! The other days between 55 and 62 children

came to hear about our Good Shepherd and the

love He has for His sheep. Praise

God for the people who spent so

much time planning and executing

the VBS so that many children

would hear the Gospel Message!

Mighty Fortress Mercy House in La Victoria

Throughout the Peruvian summer (January & February),

Anthony and his team (Rachel & Rosita) have been teaching a summer English class twice a

week in a park in La Victoria in order to meet more children

there and offer a helpful service to them. Their last class for the

summer is today. We thank God for the relationships that were

built and the love that was shared with the children. The

picture above was taken during the VBS that we held in La

Victoria.

Lenten Reflections This year for the season of Lent, we decided to use Chitachay and its study materials for our Wednesday night Lenten reflections. Each of the missionaries is rotating the

responsibility of leading the Lenten Bible study. On Ash Wednesday we watched Chitachay and heard a short message from Pastor Mark about God’s promises. I led

the study on Jesus as our Good Shepherd the following week, and last night Anthony led our study on the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for our salvation.

On Sunday, February 17, we confirmed Cesar

and Lidiana and welcomed them as members of the

church. They were both very happy to become

members and celebrate the Lord’s Supper with us for

the first time. They are pictured with their catechism

teacher on page one. Pastor Mark will now be teaching

the third round of catechism, and there is currently one

person, Gerardo, who faithfully comes. Please keep

him and his studies with Pastor Mark in your prayers.

Coffee & Conversation has become even more

of a hit lately, and we’ve had more than 30 Peruvians

coming each Thursday. We are especially blessed that

a few of the people who come have been getting

involved in some of our other ministries with the

Mercy House, and they have been coming to church.

Please pray for Lidia, Manual, Juan, Eduardo, and

Carlos as they continue to spend time with us and ask

questions about God.

I have been teaching the adult Bible class on

Sunday mornings, and I really enjoy it. We just

finished our study of Colossians, and I plan to start

studying Romans this coming Sunday. Thank God for

His living and active Word and for the opportunity we

have to study it on Sunday mornings.

salvation with others.

Praise God for the teams who came in February. We thank God for their

willingness and commitment to share God’s love with so many people here.

Pray for the Mercy Center in La Victoria. Pray that relationships would

continue being built and that many children would be helped through the work

there. Pray that we find a location for the center soon. Praise God for all the

kids who came to the VBS there!

4.

Praise God for all the opportunities we have to study God’s Word with others.

Pray that the Gospel would be proclaimed clearly in our Lenten Reflections,

Sunday morning Bible class, and Sunday worship services.

6.

Pray for some of our upcoming activities in March: Holy Week and Easter

services (including a Good Friday bilingual service), after school tutoring in La

Victoria, and a team retreat.

5. Praise God for Coffee & Conversation and the way it provides us a way to meet

people and witness to them. Pray that we would boldly share our faith in word

and deed with those who attend.
