When is the Tournament?

It begins Monday, June 10th, 2013 and goes through Sunday, June 16th, 2013.This plan will include an additional day in case of bad weather or a tiePractice rounds will begin on Monday, June 10th and conclude on Wednesday, June 12th.Championship rounds will begin on Thursday, June 13thand conclude on Sunday, June 16th.

What to expect around the golf course?

During the practice rounds, Monday, June 10th and conclude on Wednesday, June 12th,expect attendance to peak at approximately 20,000 to 25,000 people.During the championship rounds, Thursday, June 13th and conclude on Sunday, June 16th,expect peak attendance at 35,000 to 40,000 people.Moving from point A to point B will be a challenge during this week.

• The Operational Area is made up of Merion West Course (110 acres), Merion East Course (150 acres) and Haverford College Athletic fields (55 acres). With a total area requiring coverage that is roughly 315 acres.

4thWard Proposed Road Closures– Residents are reminded that due to the dramatically increased traffic patterns, travel times in and around the area of the US Open will increase greatly.

– When PENNDOT gives final approval on road closures/detours it will be distributed via:

• Print media, Cable Access, Haverford Twp website, Haverford Twp Police website

Parking Issues• Spectators coming into the area are being directed to three 

different free parking areas in Delaware County, via USGA ticketing. 

• Neighborhoods surrounding the US Open will be posted with “No Parking/Resident Only/Will be towed” signs during the week of the US Open. In an effort to prevent outside parking.

• Any vehicle parked that inhibits emergency vehicle egress will be towed.

Parking Issues• Residents will be able to contact Haverford Police directly 

without dialing 911 for US Open issues.

Neighborhood concerns

• Lessen inconvenience on residents surrounding the US Open.

• Utilize PENNDOT approved detour plans to direct traffic away from already heavily traveled roadways around the US Open

• Our traffic plan would be “fluid” and we have the ability to adjust it as needed daily.

School bus routes• The Haverford Township School District has met with the 

Haverford Police and are aware of the proposed closures and detours.

• They will have a plan in place to ensure uninterrupted bus service to the 4th ward.  Remember, the buses will have to work around the increased traffic flow as well.

Township Services• Haverford Township Administration and Public Works have 

met with the Haverford Police to provide uninterrupted service during the US Open. The Public Works Department will have access to surrounding areas during the US Open

• Trash/Recycling service in the 4th ward will be on your regularly scheduled days.

• FIRE, EMS, Animal Control and the POLICE will operate normal day to day operations during the US Open

Logistics

The Operational Areas include: Merion West, Merion East, Haverford College and all will have a police presence.

Additional Operational Areas: Off‐site parking areas and multiple traffic posts throughout Haverford Township and Lower Merion Township.

To adequately staff the entire operation there is a need for approximately 350 officers a day.

Police Departments from Delaware & Montgomery Counties have been requested to assist Haverford Township Police during this week.
