    Summer Courses on Gender, Human Rights and Migration

    Running on its 15th year, IWHR is a regular academic-

    based womens human rights course offered in the

    Philippines. The program discusses the use ofinternational human rights instruments from gender andrights perspectives in analyzing complex issues of

    discrimination, inequality and oppression brought aboutby the intersecting factors of class, gender, ethnicity,age, sexual orientation, and others.COURSE FEE: Php 8,500 (on-site)

    GenderFairEducation (APRIL15-19)GFE is an intensive one-week course designed for development

    workers and educators in formal and non formal education (i.e.teachers, administrators, module writers, trainers, etc). Thecourse introduces the gender and development (GAD) and hu-man rights based perspectives in schools and other teaching

    learning environment.COURSE FEE: Php 7,500 (on-site)

    SummerInstituteonMigration

    (APRIL 22-27)

    SIM provides a critical overview of the processes,

    dynamics and challenges of migration in the context of aglobalized world. The course utilizes interactive and casestudies in understanding the complex dimensions ofmigration. Topics include gender analysis of migration;

    comparative migration policies; migration and human rights;marriage migration; social cost of migration; migrationand environmental crises; return and reintegration; amongothers.

    About the organizer:

    The Women and Gender Institute (WAGI) is Miriam Colleges specialized center for advocacy on womens rights,gender equality, and non-sexist learning. It offers a cross discipline perspective on womens empowerment that isinterlinked with democracy, human rights, social justice and value formation.

    All courses are open to public servants, NGO workers,educators, professionals, activists, community workers,and graduate students.

    Course fees include lunch, am & pm snacks, certificate ofparticipation, and training kit and CD copy of handouts.

    Seminar venue will be at Miriam College, Philippines

    GenderandDevelopment(GAD)PlanningandBudgeting(MAY20-23)

    The course will focus on the theory and practice of gender-

    responsive planning and budgeting based on the findings of the

    review of the Philippine GAD Budget Policy in 2009 and 2010. It will

    include lectures and extensive practice sessions in gender analysis,

    design of gender-responsive projects and programs, and the prepa-

    ration of 3-year GAD agenda and annual GAD budgets. Participants

    are encouraged to bring sample GAD plan and budget of theiragency. The course coordinator and main faculty is Jeanne Frances

    I. Illo, gender trainer and the principal author of Accounting for

    Gender Results: A Review of the Philippine GAD Budget Policy, and

    developer of the Philippine Harmonized Gender and Development

    Guidelines for Project Development, Implementation, Monitoring and

    Evaluation.

    Php 10,000 (payment made on or

    before May 6, 2013) For Miriam College graduate students, the course can be

    credited for 3 units academic work upon completion of

    the Summer Course and submission of a research paper
