We offer 2 options: fully stainless steel – ie.

Carcass and front face 100% manufactured from

stainless steel, creating a solution for freestanding,

wall mounting and to ensure the finish carries

through internally, or alternatively we offer a budget

option whereby the body or carcass is made from

steel and the front face is stainless steel. A suitable

solution for those applications whereby the boxes

are built in or recessed and the body is not visible.

Apopular and visually impressive part of ourrange is the wood insert. Splitting a bank

horizontally and vertically, cladding the exterior orproviding a parcel shelf, the mix of wood and metalsadds a complimentary and pleasing involvement ofsustainable materials within the bank of mailboxes.

Wood used includes Walnut, Cherry, Bamboo,

Fire Rated

We have 2 groups of Fire Rated mailboxes tosuit the location and requirement on each

project. Each group contains mailboxes for surfacemounting, recessing, freestanding and through thewall applications.

It is important that the buyer or specifier isclear about the mailbox locations when selectingthe correct fire rated mailbox for the project, aschoosing a lesser standard may disable the ratingof an area and deem the property vulnerable.

At The Safety LetterboxCompany our Research andDevelopment team workedwith Exova Warrington tobecome the first company toachieve full Fire Rating (onehour integrity only) to BS 476Part 22, on this specificallycreated group of products.

We have worked continually with the marketto understand the Fire rating demands on projects,and consequently have produced an alternative toour high level product for those sites whereproducts can conform to BS476 Part 6 & 7. Thisstandard typically tests the material that theproduct is made of to see if it will ‘fuel a fire’,whereas Part 22 will contain and form a break to afire and the box or bank of boxes will maintain itsintegrity for one hour ie. will not allow breakout.

BS 476 Part 22 This group of products containa series of features and benefits that result in a ‘one hour integrity’ rating. As a result of complexfeatures, this product range is the more costly option.

BS 476 Part 6 & 7 This group will satisfy thedemands of fire protection in most cases, andprovide an affordable alternative if surface spreadof flame and non flamable materials are acceptable.

All products achieving these standards arepolyester powder coated to London UndergroundEngineering Standard 2-01001-002 for surfacespread of flame.

From our initial enquiry when we decided to install 280 secure letter boxes in one of our halls of

residence, Safety Letter Box Company were able to advise us what options were available in the

space we had. I was impressed that the installation team sent someone to visit the site prior to the

installation to assess where they were to install the boxes and if there were any access issues,

parking arrangement, waste disposal etc. The boxes were to be installed in a Common Room which

was being used as a reception area for our summer guests. On the day of delivery the Installation

Team worked in the area with minimum disruption. They were conscious that they had to remove

any debris and keep the place tidy while carrying out installation'.

of the UK and worldwide. Over the years The Safety Letterbox Company have been at theforefront of this market and have been involved in a large number of projects.

A variety of mailbox options and sizes are

available with larger capacity boxes for shared

occupancy and also unlimited multiple keys per box.

Locking options such as SALTO systems can be

incorporated into the mailboxes to provide traceability

and removing the issuing of keys each year.

Where price is of primary concern whilst not

wanting to compromise on security and aesthetics,

the budget range offers an excellent alternative to our

standard and high specification boxes.

The affordable ‘budget range’ of lockable

mailboxes manufactured from steel and PPC, will

allow purchasers the best product at the most

commercial, affordable price.

Use of colour can also create a visually

interesting area to enhance the interior design.

We can also visit to measure for maximum use

of space if needed and our installation team can

For projects where a full post room is required,there are a number of options. For those that

require sorting of the mail on one side via pigeonhole type arrangements and lockable doors on thefront face, such as projects completed for KuwaitPost Royal Mail, also Mount Pleasant SortingOffice, Royal Mail, London through to a completeroom fit-out maximising every bit of space for theconcierge or post person to sort mail.

Our in-house polyester powder coatingprocess provides excellent anti-graffiti and stainresistance properties with high aestheticappearance.

We use a three stage pre-treatment process

on all powder coated surfaces to ensure maximum

adhesion resulting in longevity and durability of

the finished product.

We powder coat to a depth of 75/100 microns.

Sample tested to 1,200 hours salt water spray.

Anti Graffiti Powder CoatingAll mailboxes can, in addition to the standard

‘extralife’ coating, be further protected by an

additional coat of ‘anti-graffiti’ lacquer.

Secured by Design

21.19 Letter Boxes

A surface mounted or ‘through-the-wall’ letterbox may be used. The use of such a productgreatly reduces the crime risk problemsassociated with letter plates and also reduces heatloss through the door.

21.19.1

Where a single surface mounted letter box isto be used for each dwelling they must be robustin construction and securely fixed to the externalface of the building in accordance with themanufacturer’s specifications. They must belocated in a position that benefits from naturalsurveillance. The letter box must incorporate adesign feature that prevents the removal of mailthrough the delivery slot and the access door formail collection must be lockable.

21.19.2

Where multiple boxes are to be used withinthe entrance hall of a block of flats, the boxes

must incorporate the same design features assingle boxes and be installed in accordance withthe manufacturer’s specifications. Depending oncrime risk it may be necessary for such letterboxes to be located within an ‘airlock’ accesscontrolled entrance hall (pictured above), wherebyaccess can be gained by the postal workerthrough the outer door only. If this additionalrequirement is necessary the CPDA will advise theapplicant in writing at the time of application.

21.19.3 Through–the-Wall

Where the design dimensions of an entry hallin a block of flats are sufficient it may bepreferable to provide ‘through-the-wall’ maildelivery into a secure internal letter box, therebynegating the need for the postal worker to enterthe building (as shown on page 14). Such a boxmust incorporate the same design features asdescribed above for a surface mounted box. Anti-arson design features may also be advised if suchcrime risks are present.’

Secured by Design is the official UK Policeflagship initiative supporting the principlesof 'designing out crime'. Secured by Design

focuses on crime prevention of homes andcommercial premises and promotes the use ofsecurity standards for a wide range of applicationsand products.

tested principles of natural surveillance and

Security

Sadly in an age of identity theft and othercrimes, we are continually looking at ways to

provide maximum security of mail and theproperties. This has been addressed in a number ofways described below.

Locks - the locks used are unique to SafetyLetterbox Company, we do not display numbers

on the front face and the ordering and cutting of

spare keys are handled via our internal key

department who handle enquiries in accordance

with strict policies and procedures.

Features - most of our mailboxes have a

series of security features such as the anti vandal

bridge, recessed doors to remove the leverage

ability and the specification of materials used

ensure that the doors and flaps are not easily

damaged.

Fire Extinguishers - Where risk is consideredhigh, mailboxes can be fitted with a fire

extinguisher. Originally designed and created to

protect racing car drivers from fire, ‘pyroflex’ is an

unobtrusive tube which is fixed to the inside of the

mailbox. In the event of fire, the heat generated

softens the tube which punctures at the hottest

point, (approx 80ºoC) accurately releasing the gas

into the seat of the fire which extinguishes the fire

at source.

Flaplock - For that extra peace of mind thelockable letterflap 'Flaplock™' has been created by

Safety Letterbox Co following demand from Arson

task force teams across the UK to retro-fit

and block up existing letterflaps in doors of

apartments or front doors, providing the option to

lock or unlock as required. Fitted in seconds, this

affordable solution is ideal to provide security to

those living in fear of arson attacks, intimidation

and other crimes.

We also offer a range of heavy duty mailbox

models to provide additional security in the most

challenging of site locations.

In exceptional circumstances, where the

door size may be abnormally large, or, the

level of security required is higher than

normal, a 2 point or even 3 point locking

option can be made available to most of our

range of mailboxes.

We have a variety of locking options

alongside our standard, incorporating

electronic options like SALTO to integrate into

existing systems and other electronic locks

which include the latest biometrics as

required. This also includes electronic notice

boards, controlled centrally.

These mailboxes will protect against mail

theft and identity fraud, provide increased

security and access control to individual

mailboxes with full traceable entry. This

eliminates the need and expense of having to

reissue replacement keys to students as they

will be able to operate and access their

mailbox with their existing student ID card

and room key. Digital locking is also available.

All our mailboxes are lockable complete with 2keys each as standard, master suited. We use

CC locks that are unique to us, which eliminatesthe obtaining of keys through dishonest means.
