2013 Post Show Report Challenges in deepwater production are complex and command our attention to develop

solutions that are economical and long-term. The Deepwater Operations Conference and

Exhibition provides a unique experience for attendees and exhibitors to share, learn and

connect in a forum dedicated to addressing these challenges.

Deepwater Operations Conference & Exhibition 2013 was held in Galveston, Texas at the

Moody Gardens Hotel & Convention Center. The event attracted 1,004 attendees. Eighty four

exhibitors displayed their products and services on the exhibit hall floor. The conference theme

was “Yesterday’s Experience, Tomorrow’s Innovations and Solutions.” Over two days of

sessions, speakers shared best practices, how they approach risk and how they manage new

challenges. The exhibit hall floor showcased new equipment, technology and services vital to

the deepwater operations industry.

Opening Plenary Session The Opening Plenary Session was held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. in the Moody Gardens Convention Center, Hall A. All registered attendees were invited to attend. Russell McCulley, Offshore magazine, kicked off the session with a welcome and introductions. Chairman of the Advisory Board, Shawn Lurry, Apache Corporation, gave the Chairman’s Opening Remarks and introduced the keynote speaker.

The keynote presentation was given by Bob Tippee, Oil & Gas Journal Bob Tippee is Editor of Oil & Gas Journal, a weekly trade magazine, and its website, Oil & Gas Journal Online. Since joining the Journal in 1977, he has written on all aspects of the international petroleum industry, with special interest in economics, energy policy, geophysics, and the Middle East. His work for the magazine has won awards from American Business Media, New York Society of Business Press Editors, Association of Petroleum Writers, International Association for Energy Economics, International Association of Energy Advocates, and Houston Society for Technical Communications. He also has won the Cicero Speechwriting Award and is the 2010 recipient of American Business Media’s Crain Award. Tippee became the Journal’s chief editor in January 1999. He also was Editor-in-Chief of the 1997 through 2001 editions of the Journal’s annual affiliate, International Petroleum Encyclopedia. Tippee is the director of two PennWell Petroleum Group conferences and has written or co-written several books on the oil and gas industry. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he holds a degree in Journalism from the University of Tulsa and served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
