When I sat down to write the Pub-lisher's message I began to reflect on how the coatings industry has changed over the last 20 years and realized that PCI has been serving coatings formulators and manufac-turers for 98 years! Oh the changes this magazine has seen!

One thing that hasn't changed over the past 20 years is PCI's staff. While we have added new team members to keep up with the ever-growing new platforms available to the publishing industry, much of our core staff has been with PCI since 1992. It takes a team to produce a great product, and the stability and knowledge within our team has made PCI the leading business-to-busi-ness magazine in the coatings industry.

As I looked through our history, PCI has always been the leader in bringing new marketing ideas to enhance your brand awareness. PCI can connect you to our sub-scribers, your customers, through multiple mediums. Several pages of this media kit are dedicated to

the various print and digital media formats available to you – some of them new for 2013.

Other coatings magazines seem to follow our marketing ideas, but one thing they can't duplicate or offer is the targeted readership you want your brand to reach.* PCI’s audit statement proves that we reach more R&D formulators and manufacturers than any other coatings magazine (see Targeting Your Customers graph below). Some magazines boast that they are more global and have a larger circulation, but take a close look at their BPA statement. The bottom line is that they are reaching more of the sales and marketing personnel, distributors and suppliers, not the R&D people that your advertising message will ring true with. Also be aware that in promotional ads some magazines combine circulation numbers from their other print publications and eNewsletters to make their numbers look higher. There are also coatings magazines that aren't audited and only go to association members. It is unclear which job functions even receive the publication.

All of PCI’s digital and eNewslet-ter* subscribers are opt-in.

Another misnomer is when a magazine boasts that their editorial is staff written. This is fine for basic product and market coverage, but technical editorial needs to come from the source that developed the new technology, not written by someone that hasn't formulated

a coating or worked in an R&D lab. PCI has several staff-written pieces and does fully cover market information in our monthly depart-ments. However, the bulk of our articles are technical in nature and are submitted to us from industry suppliers who can show coatings manufacturers the data and results that their testing has produced. PCI’s editorial staff includes Technical Editor Dr. Darlene Brezenski, a coatings chem-ist who worked for coatings manufacturers at the R&D level for many years; Editor Kristin Johansson, who has edited technical papers and attended industry events for 20 years; and Associate Editor Karen Parker, who has a strong back-ground in research and writing.
