Class Requirement Description

Parent and Child Aquatics Level 1 Ages 6 months to 3.5 years with no previous experience. Children are to wear swim diapers under swimsuit. Level 1 introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents are taught to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately support their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills. Several water safety topics are also introduced and directed to parents.

Parent and Child Aquatics Level 2 Ages 18 months to 3.5 years with completion certificate of all level P/C I skills. Level 2 builds on the skills introduced in Level 1. Participants improve on these skills and learn more advanced skills.

Preschool Aquatics Level 1 Ages 3.5 - 5 years without parent. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Level 1 Exit Skills Assessment Enter independently, using either the ladder, steps or side, travel at least 5 yards, sub-merge to mouth and blow bubbles for at lease 3 seconds then safely exit the water. While in shallow water, glide on front at least 2 body lengths, then rolltobackandfloatonbackfor3secondsthenrecovertoaverticalposition.

Preschool Aquatics Level 2 Ages 3.5 - 5 years without parent. Children entering this course must have a PreschoolAquaticsLevel1certificatetobeabletodemonstrateallthecompletionrequirementsfromPreschoolLevel1.

Push off and swim using a combination of arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, rolltoback,floatfor15seconds,rolltofrontthencontinueswimmingfor5bodylengths.

Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills Ages 6 - 13 years old. There are no prerequisites for this level.

Level 3 Exit Skills Assessment Jump into deep water from the side, swim front crawl for 15 yards, maintain position by treadingorfloatingfor30secondsandswimelementarybackstrokefor15yards.Demonstratescissorskickanddolphinkick.

Level 4 Stroke Improvement ParticipantsenteringthiscoursemusthaveaLevel3certificateormustbeable todem-onstrate all the completion requirements in Level 3.

Level 4 Exit Skills Assessment Performafeet-firstentryintodeepwater,swimfrontcrawlfor25yards,changedirectionandpositionasnecessaryandswimelementarybackstrokefor25yards.Demonstratebackcrawl,breastroke,butterfly,sidestroke.

Level 5 Stroke Refinement ParticipantsenteringthiscoursemusthaveaLevel4certificateormustbeabletodemon-strate all the course requirements in Level 4.

Level 5 Exit Skills Assessment Perform a shallow-angle dive into deep water, swim front crawl for 50 yards, change direc-tion and position of travel as necessary and swim elementary backstroke for 50 yards. Swim breastroke for 25 yards, change direction and position of travel as necessary and swim back crawl for 25 yards.

Level 6 Swimming and Skill Proficiency ParticipantsenteringthiscoursemusthaveaLevel5certificateormustbeabletodemon-strate all the skills required to complete Level 5.

Level 6 Exit Skills Assessment Swim 500 yards continuously using any 3 strokes of your choice, swimming at least 50 yardsofeachstroke.Jumpintodeepwater,performasurvivalfloatfor5minutes,rollontobackandperformabackfloatfor5minutes.Performafeet-firstsurfacedive,retrieveanobjectfromthebottomofthepoolatatdepthof7-10feet,returntosurfaceandreturntostartingpoint.Performthe Cooper 12-minute swim test and compare results with the pre-assessment results.

Special Needs - All ages Children with special concerns with parent. Parent must provide all locker room care and in pool water assistance. Instructor will teach parents the skills to assist their child.

American Red Cross Aquatics are taught by certified instructors/aides with lifeguard training. Swimming instruction is a great way to introduce your child to the water, strengthening positive attitudes and proper swimming techniques. Nicolet Recreation Department is an authorized American Red Cross provider.Please read the following carefully:

Ñ Children ages 4 years and up need to go into the locker room for their respective gender. Ñ Allparticipantsshouldbeevaluatedpriortothefirstdayoflessonstoensuretheyareinthe

proper level, if they haven’t been evaluated in the last 6 months, unless they are in the lowest level. Ñ Parents please observe lessons from the outer pool lobby only. Ñ Persons observing from deck will be charged the open swim fee daily of $3.00R/$5.00NR Ñ Lessons may be combined or cancelled based on enrollment numbers. No makeup classes will be

given. Ñ Classroom enrollment minimum is 5 participants; maximum is 6 participants per instructor for pre

school levels Ñ Class enrollment minimum is 6 participants; maximum is 10 participants per instructor for school

Open/Lap SwimThis combined program of family swim and lap swim is a great opportunity for you and your family to enjoy water indoors. Open swim is open to all ages, while lap swim is open to ages 12 years and up. A swim test will be required for those children wishing to swim in the deep end. Due to safety reasons, water rings and tubes are not allowed. It is recommended that all persons bring a lock to secure personal belongings, however, the lock must be removed and taken home at the end of the swim period. Pool rules, regulations and other pertinent information are posted in the pool area. All persons not participating in open/lap swim must observe from the outer lobby or pay a participant fee. All children under 8 years of age must be accompanied in the pool by a paying adult. Limit 2 free children per adult. Exact change only will be accepted at pool location. All persons must exit the building 15 minutes after the conclusion of any aquatic program. Swim Test: Swim 22 yards front crawl non-stop with breathing—then without stopping tread water for 20 secondsIF NO PARTICIPATS ARE IN THE POOL WITH 30 MINUTES LEFT—THE LIFEGUARD WILL CLOSE THE POOL.

Babysitting CampThe purpose of this course is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. Story Time with Roamer The RobotMeet Roamer the robot and share story time drama with him! Students will practice sequencing and logic skills as they have fun exploring with Roamer the Robot. They’ll use a program-ming language called Logo, designed for preschoolers to operate Roamer and turn him into various characters from favorite sto-ries, challenge him to an obstacle course or use him as a bowling ball. Your child will have fun and learn at the same time! Mad Science NASA Camp:Journey Into Outer Space

Mad Science has teamed up with NASA in a quest for explora-tion! We’ll take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenom-ena in our solar system. Things will heat up as we examine the sunandotherstarsanddiscoverthedifficultiesofspacetravel!Kidswillgetafirsthandexperienceofthechallengesoflivinginspace as they try to assemble a satellite while training to be an astronaut. For added fun, we’ll learn about the various technolo-gies that make space exploration possible while bouncing lasers around the room! Kids will love to build their own Mad Science rocket, and participate in a real “NASA” style rocket launch. Family GuitarsThis class is designed for families to have some good old-fash-ioned musical fun together! These group guitar lessons will teach beginning note-reading using traditional notation and tablature. We will also learn to play several chords to accompany our sing-ing! Camp PhilosophyThe Nicolet Recreation Department Summer Camp at the Hills is designed to provide participants with a safe, primarily outdoor, age-appropriate playing and learning op-portunity. Recreational experiences enhance all children’s developmental needs and help create a positive self image through socialization and creativity.

Field TripsCampers will be going on various field trips throughout the summer. The fees for the field trips will be built into reg-istration costs. The children may need extra money on the field trips for lunches, snacks, or activities. Checking the field trip box on the registration form, enables your child to attend. These field trips will be carefully planned and supervised by our staff.

Guest PassesBecause our staff recognizes the importance of attend-ing camp with a friend, guest passes are considered for all campers. Simply complete a form at the camp location, pay the nominal fee of $15.00 and we do everything else.Your child’s guest will get to enjoy the everyday activities that accompany our day camp program, however there are some guidelines and restrictions that must be followed:• Guest pass requests will only be accepted with the com-pleted form and the fee paid in full.• Guest pass requests will only be honored if all fines and fees are up to date.• Guest pass requests will not be accepted for any field trips or special events.• Only one child may accompany your child per day-based on space available.• Guest passes will be accepted after the first week of camp.• Your guest must adhere to all other guidelines set forth by the Nicolet Recreation Department.

LocationThe Nicolet Recreation Department in cooperation with the Nicolet High School District strives to provide the optimum facility for summer camp at Glen Hills Middle School. Not only do we utilize the school, its swimming pool and out-door grounds, but also local parks and businesses.

Lunches & SnacksCampers may sign up for the 12:00-1:00pm lunch session only during the 5-week camp that runs immediately after the school district’s Summer Academy. Campers must bring a lunch each day. Lunches will not be provided by the Recreation Department. All campers are encouraged to bring drinks and snacks.

Typical DayWhen campers are not swimming or participating on field trips, camp counselors lead their grade in arts & crafts, sports, games, and other fun-filled summer activities. Parents will receive a calendar detailing each day’s events upon registration.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, June 19. On-line registration is available for summer camp along with mail-in, fax, walk-in, and drop box.

ResidencyAm I a resident? There are a number of methods of residen-cy. A resident of Nicolet is anyone maintaining a permanentaddress in the communities of Bayside, Glendale,Fox Point, or River Hills at the time of participation. Anystudent currently enrolled in or attending Nicolet HighSchool or any public/private elementary and middle school in the communities of Bayside, River Hills, Fox Point, or Glendale at the time of participation. Anyone who gradu-ated from Nicolet High School. Individuals who meet one or more of these requirements will pay the resident fee for any program offered by the Nicolet Recreation Depart-ment. Individuals who fail to meet at least one of these requirements do not have the same rights and privileges as residents and will be required to pay the Non-resident fee. The Nicolet Recreation Department reserves the right to make the final determination on residency using the above criteria.

StaffThe Nicolet Recreation Department continues to attributethe success of the camp to a carefully selected and well-trained staff. Most adult counselors have degrees in educa-tion or related fields. Over 3/4 of the 2012 evaluations rated the staff as doing an excellent job. Our 2012 camp staff was considered enthusiastic and mature. Many will be returning for the 2013 Summer Camp - building on years of experience. Camp at the Hills Director, Lisa Vondra, a DPI Licensed Professional Educator along with two assistant directors, encourage guidance and leadership to both camp-ers and staff.

Pick-ups and Drop-offsThe Camp at the Hills staff puts in long hours planning, or-ganizing, and implementing the camp. Please pick up yourchild from camp at the scheduled time. In previous years this has been a problem. To help eliminate the problem, we will be assessing a late fee penalty for delinquent parents. For every ten minutes a parent is delinquent a $10.00 late fee will be assessed and is to be paid before the camperreturns to camp. For example, if a camper is scheduled tobe picked up at 4:00pm and the parent arrives at 4:25pm,a $25.00 late fee will be assessed. We need to instill thispolicy to ensure the safety and welfare of everyone. Participant PolicyThe objective of the Nicolet Recreation Department is to provide a positive leisure experience for all participants. To ensure this, certain rules and policies are required for your child’s safety and enjoyment as well as that of others:• Show respect to all participants, staff, facilities,and equipment.• Foul or obscene language and/or causing bodily harm to any staff member or participant will not be tolerated. Displaying inappropriate behavior may lead to permanent removal from the program, resulting in forfeiture of all fees.• Behavior that endangers the safety of participants in any way will not be tolerated. The Recreation Department reserves the right to dismiss participants whose behavior is determined to be a threat to the safety of themselves or oth-ers. The Nicolet Kickers Soccer Club, an affiliate of the Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club, is proud to offer boys and girls ages 5-13, living in Bayside, Fox Point,

Glendale and River Hills an opportunity to play soccer with the largest, professionally run soccer club in Wisconsin.

Players will learn teamwork, sportsmanship, get great exercise, make new friends and have fun! The soccer season runs for 8 weeks in the fall

(September-October) and 8 weeks in the spring (mid-April to early June) coinciding with the school year. Teams practice one night a week for about one

hour on local fields and games are played on weekends. All players receive a free uniform. Fees vary by age.

Ice Skating - Snowplow Sam 1-3This program is a progression of three classes designed to teach the fundamentals of skating to children, ages 3-5 years, with little or no skating experience. KOPPA TENNIS ACADEMY -38-Youth Tennis Lessons

Lessons begin the week of June 17th and run through August 8th and are divided into two seperate sessions. Structured lessons with emphasis on patience, will surely make an “ACE” in no time. Stroke development, game rules, practice format and match strategies are reviewed throughout the program. Participants are encouraged to bring their own racket, water bottles, use sunscreen and/or wear a hat. All skill levels are welcome and taught by high school, college players and coaches. Each program is 50 minutes in length and held at Nicolet High School. Directed by NHS Head Tennis Coach Tim Koppa and Erin Felber. Erin FelberErin is a graduate of Nicolet High School. She was a two-time Team State Champion and both years wonthefinalmatchtosecurethewin.Erinwenton to play Division I tennis for UW-Milwaukee and currently works full time at Nicolet as a physical education & health teacher. She is the Head Coach of the Alverno College tennis team, JV Boys Ten-nis Coach at Nicolet and a tennis pro at Elite Sports Club. 2013 Youth Softball Leagues Program Descriptions TEE BALL

Tee Ball is for ages 4-6 (K4 thru 1st grade). This is a non-competitive program open to boys and girls with little or no previous baseball experience. Participants will learn the very basic fundamentals of baseball and organized games will be played but scores and standings will not be kept. Players will be randomly placed on teams. However, you may request to have your child be placed with their friends. Each player will receive mini Major League Baseball team replica shirts and hats. The first day (June 8) will be an orientation/practice session and uniforms and schedules will be handed out. All teams will be coached by a combination of paid high school students and adult volunteers. Coaches meetings will be held the week leading up to the first day. Volunteer coaches needed, please email Kirk_Krychowiak@nicolet.k12.wi.us if interested. A packet of information will be mailed to you upon registration. All league info will be posted on the Nicolet Recreation website under softball central. Games will be played on Saturday mornings at rotating times of 9am, 10am and 11am. The season will end no later than July 20th.

PARENT PITCH A step up from Tee Ball, Parent pitch is for those just finishing 1st or 2nd grade. First graders playing for the first time should start with Tee Ball. Middle Eastern Belly DancingThe beginning class offers students the opportunity to learn the art of belly dancing in a comfortable, casual atmosphere. SENIOR CITIZENS -58-Everyday Sewing Level 1

Here’sachancetofinallylearntousethatsewingmachinethathas been sitting in the closet, basement or attic for years. Bring it in and let’s learn to make it work for you. We’ll learn your machine’s basic threading and try a variety of stitches while we make a couple of basic home projects. We’ll use zig-zag stitch-ing, blind hemming and create a button hole when we make an accessory bag. We’ll learn principles of cutting and practice our basic stitching by making a reversible tote bag in your choice of fabrics. We’ll make a jewelry roll with bias binding and an apron project that incorporates techniques of basic garment construc-tion. Participants will need to purchase fabric for projects. Instructions and yardage guidelines will be discussed during the firstclass.

The recgram is e-mailed weekly to a database of 2,000+ e-mail addresses using Constant Contact. The recgram is sent to participants to remind them of upcoming programs and other pertinent information from the Nicolet Recreation Department. Flyer Advertising

The school folder flyers are distributed once a week to 1,500 area feeder school students. The flyers are sent to area students to remind them of upcoming recreation programs. Advertisements are a full page in size and would be on the back of the flyer.
