Welcome Kankakee Community College student athletes, parents, supporters and fans!

We begin another year of KCC athletics, and I continue to be inspired by the level of commitment and determination of our student athletes to succeed not just in their respective sports but in the classroom! Our athletic program, and each sport, begin with the strong dedication of our complete coaching staff and are supported by the KCC Board of Trustees and our community. Participation and success in athletics is often the basis for many of life’s skills and experiences.

Competition through KCC’s six intercollegiate sports en-hances a student athlete’s desire for excellence while further developing teamwork, communication, time management and commitment skills.

As parents and educators, we pledge to join your efforts to provide encouragement and support to our student athletes. The resources of KCC are available to all student athletes to aid them in the achievement of their educational goals as well as their athletic achievements. The faculty and staff at the college will always encourage all of our students to set high expecta-tions and to apply themselves toward achieving those goals.

It is an honor to be part of the Cavaliers family, and I would like to thank the parents of our student athletes, each member

of the coaching staff, and the members of our Cavalier Club who help to support our athletic teams. Please join the Board of Trustees, myself, faculty, staff, and all Cavaliers fans in wishing each of our teams and coaches a success-ful season.

In addition, I hope you will join me in welcoming Mr. Julian Springer as the coor-dinator of athletic academic success program and head men’s basketball coach for Kankakee Community College. He will play a large role in the academic success of our student athletes.

Of the nine returning players for the 2013 season, six are position players and three are pitchers who helped the 2012 team to a 14th straight trip to the NJCAA National Tournament. "With nine sopho-mores and a great group of freshmen, they should again lead us to another great season," said the Cavaliers Veteran Head Coach, Dennis Clark.

The three returning pitchers are led by Brandi Coy who finished 2012 with a 17-4 record and a 2.59 ERA. Also return-ing is Erica Harper with an 11-3 record and 2.48 ERA. Another sophomore who saw limited action last year because of surgery is Cady Fodrocy. She had a 2-1 record. With the experience of these three sophomore pitchers along with talented

freshmen, the Cavaliers should have the best pitching staff in Region IV.

The Cavaliers also return six talented position players led by Ashley Adams, who was an All-Region selection at 2nd base last year. Adams hit a team high .472 last year, with 82 RBI and 21 doubles. "Ashley had a great freshman season. I expect her to have another outstand-ing year," said Clark. Another returning starter is center fielder Alicia Ward. Ward hit .408 last year with a team-leading 13 triples. She was a perfect 16-for-16 in sto-len bases. Another returning starter is Mel Ypya, who hit .385 as a freshman. "Alicia and Mel give us great speed at the top and bottom of the line-up, they make things happen," said Coach Clark.

Also returning are outfielder Meghan McNulty (.385) and catcher/utility player Olivia Donley (.314.). "Both Meghan and Olivia were part-time starters last year, so that experience should benefit them this year," said Coach Clark. Another sopho-more returner who will be counted on is first baseman/designated hitter Brittney Adams. She is coming off a knee injury from last year.

"I always expect big things out of my returning sophomores" said Clark. "I feel they will lead us along with the talented freshmen toward our 18th Region IV Championship and the opportunity to compete for a NJCAA Division II National Championship."
