The 2013 Business & Community Fair has come and gone with a roar! I truly enjoyed walking around and visiting with such a variety of booths, manned by row after row of Chamber members. Everyone was very informative and the event was a huge success. A large part of that is because of all of the hard work put in by the Chamber Office staff and volunteers. I personally would like to say thank you to anyone that had a hand in the Business Fair, especially booth participants, sponsors, volunteers and Chamber staff. Two opportunities rapidly approaching to promote your business to the community are the Fenton Chamber of Commerce 24th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, August 19th and, even though it is not a true Chamber-sponsored event, the 2nd Annual Fenton Days Festival held in Olde Towne Fenton on Saturday, August 24th. The annual golf tournament offers numerous sponsorship, advertising and volunteer opportunities as well as a chance to create some friendships with your fellow Chamber members. More information on how you can get involved these two very big and important events can be found in the newsletter or you can contact the Chamber. The year is half over and I would consider this a great time to stop and take time to evaluate the progress you’ve made in obtaining your business and personal goals. Are there any adjustments you need to make to your daily routine in business to create new opportunity or new results? To relate to our speaker at the June membership luncheon, Bill Donius, it’s time to turn on and utilize your ―right brain‖. Or as the cliché goes, ―time to think outside the box‖. I encourage each of you to exhaust all of the tools and opportunities that your Fenton Chamber of Commerce membership has to offer. While it is summer and vacation time for you and your family and friends, don’t let your business take a vacation. Obtaining your yearly goals is going to be an ongoing process of hard work all of the time. Being relentless in your business and not accepting failure will pay off in the long term. Remember… the Chamber has your back, so SHOP CHAMBER FIRST!!! Sincerely, Greg Bresler President – Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce General Manager – Andre’s Banquets and Catering

Alliance Credit Union Awards Three College Scholarships

Alliance Credit Union awarded three $1,500 college scholarships at its 65th Annual Meeting on May 20, 2013 at the Lodge Des Peres in St. Louis, Missouri.

Scholarships recipients were selected on their ability to highlight the differences between banks and credit unions and the significance of those differences in an essay. This is the 17th year of Alliance's scholarship program, which has awarded more than $60,000 in college scholarships to date. ―We want to recognize the achievements of these young men and women and help them become future leaders and decision makers in the community," said Alliance CEO Tim Stephens. ―Giving them a start on their education is something Alliance values and will continue to do.‖

This year’s scholarship winners included Darlene Herron, attending Meramec Community College to study computer engineering. Jack Flemming, a senior at Fort Zumwalt South High School, will attend the University of Missouri-Columbia and will major in journalism. Linda Watson is currently attending Meramec Community College with plans of attending the Barnes Jewish Goldfarb School of Nursing.

The board also renamed the annual scholarship at the meeting after former President/CEO Dennis Sommer, who retired after 28 years of service. The scholarship will now be called ―The Dennis J. Sommer Scholarship for Excellence & Education.‖ To be eligible, applicants must be Alliance Credit Union members (or the son, daughter or grandchild of an Alliance member), as well as either a full-time college student or a high school student that will be a full-time college student in the following year.
