Flag DefectsNovation’s AF2 WebFlagger safely and accurately marks defects on webs by applying a pressure-sensitive label or “flag” at speeds up to and above 4,000 fpm. A flag can be triggered by a pushbutton, from a machine signal, or from any inspec-tion system. The AF2 can also track an input from an upstream location a preset distance and then wait to apply the flag until the defect arrives at the location of the WebFlagger.—www.novation-inc.com

Web ControlMontalvo will showcase its ES Dead Shaft-Idler Load cells, U series under pillow block load cells, U4 and S4 tension controllers, US4 ultrasonic sensor, and its exclu-sive range expander. Montalvo’s VKL brake and safety

chuck package, entire line up brakes, and its dancer ten-sion control system will also be on display. New products on display include the customizable NS series load cells, filament load cell, I4 tension indicator, and the new torque brake.—www.montalvo.com

Designed in response to increased demand for high-quality, non-contact web cleaning applications, the CyClean™ technology is based on fundamental aerodynamic and fluid dynamic principles. Com-bined, these deliver a very high cleaning level while requiring practically no maintenance. With specially designed slotted air chambers that direct a constant stream of air on both sides to maximize cleaning efficiency, the CyClean™ can remove 0.5 micron, and with a small footprint that enables fitting into confined spaces, the need to extend the web path is complete-ly eliminated.—www.meech.com

Speed MeasurementBeta LaserMike will be exhibiting its LaserSpeed® non-contact length and speed measurement technol-ogy at ICE USA 2013. The LaserSpeed encoder projects a unique pattern on the surface of the product. As the product moves, light is scattered back to the LaserSpeed unit. This information is translated into product speed and pulses are produced to determine the product length. Length and speed measurements are captured with better than ±0.05 percent accuracy, with ±0.02 percent repeatability. —www.betalasermike.com

Double-Nip Web CleanerPolymag Tek’s 6RNWC-CD web cleaner is designed to remove loose particulate contamination from a moving web. The four Polymag® Tek Blue-S contact cleaning rolls (CCRs) provide a double nip, which contacts both sides of the web as it moves through the unit. Surface contamination is transferred from the web to the CCRs, which are continuously cleaned by two pre-sheeted adhesive tape rolls. The double-nip provides a calculated contact cleaning efficiency of up to 99.9 percent.—www.polymagtek.com

Cantilevered Slitter RewinderDeacro’s model C610C duplex cantilevered slitter rewinder includes several innovations in quick set-up and automa-tion. State-of-the-art technology includes the servo lay-on system, servo laser core positioner, auto or digital knife positioning, turret rewind option, auto web cut system, auto web taping, auto core loading, and automated roll packaging systems.—www.deacro.com

Coating SystemsNordson Corporation’s TCHP TrueCoat® slot applicator provides exceptional accuracy for stripe or full coating appli-cation in continuous web processes. Streak-free coverage and excellent edge control make the TCHP beneficial for tape and label applications. The compact, configurable design is ideal for coating a wide variety of substrates including papers, foils, films, and nonwovens. Fast pattern changes are achieved with quick-change, replaceable slot nozzles.—www.nordson.com

Tension Control with Wireless CommunicationAt ICE USA 2013, Dover Flexo Electronics (DFE) will present an active demonstration of the communi-cations options of the SteadyWeb™5 tension control-ler. The controller will take a tension input signal from

a narrow-web tension transducer that will be mounted on a display stand. The SteadyWeb5 digital tension controller maintains set tension on a web in any zone to improve process consistency. The controller’s new Web-server option allows Ethernet communication for setup and control via connected a PC or remotely from a wi-fi-enabled smart device.—www.dfe.com
