K-10 French Immersion Homework Help Online Anna Faraone, Toronto Catholic District School Board Through the 2012-2013 French Immersion Homework Support School Board Project initiative, the TCDSB recently received funding to make French homework assistance available online to FI students in two elementary schools. Through a partnership with Voilà Learning, this French online service accessible to over 600 FI students offers tutoring in language, math, science and social sciences. Come and learn about the success of the pilot project and how ‘google hangout’ can be used to encourage students to connect and ask for help in French! You may want to implement this same program in your school in the very near future! B6 IMMERSION GR. 7-12 Frère Jacques, Au Clair de la Lune, et après? Anthony Naoum, Toronto Catholic District School Board Pourquoi arrête-t-on de chanter avec nos élèves au niveau intermédiaire? Pourtant les adolescents adorent la musique ! This workshop will concentrate on encouraging your students to speak in French while having fun. Participants will be introduced to both paper-based as well as technology-based activities that will engage students while communicating in French.

GR. 4-10 CEFR: Getting started Manon Lavigne, Jill Cassie, Durham District School Board In this hands-on session, participants will explore the components of a CEFR classroom and will experience activities that are based on the CEFR descriptors and can-do statements. Together, we will plan three-parts lessons and discuss small changes teachers can try to provide students with realistic and meaningful French language activities that respond to the diverse learning needs of their students. Various assessment, evaluation and feedback approaches will also be discussed. A bank of useful tools and resources will be shared with all participants. B12 CORE GR. K-10 Classroom activities for the continuum of learner needs Dr. Katy Arnett, St. Mary’s College of Maryland This session will explore activities that address a variety of learner needs with minimal changes to the original task. Best conceived as "differentiation lite," these "chameleon activities” can respond to the needs of students who have low motivation, attention challenge, language difficulties and/or who are gifted. Take the plain, the mundane, and the ordinary and turn it into a game. With little or no preparation, take almost any curriculum and turn it into a game. Get your students listening, speaking, reading, writing, moving around, and having fun while learning French. All games encourage full class participation. No student is left out or centred out. Picture Word Induction Model created by Emily Calhoun, uses pictures containing familiar objects, actions and scenes to draw out words and phrases from children’s listening and speaking vocabulary C11 GENERAL GR. 4-12 Le DELF au Canada; What’s it all about? Larry Vandergrift, University of Ottawa Le Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) a récemment attiré l’attention au Canada pour son potentiel comme test national de compétence en français langue seconde (FLS). This bilingual presentation will introduce the audience to the DELF diploma and test and report on a recent national study. They also encourage authentic oral interaction between circle members as they share their reading. D7 INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES GR. 4-12 Las "International Spanish Academies" en la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Españolas en el Exterior Adolfo Navarro-Muñoz, Spanish Embassy The Spanish Ministry of Education makes an important effort to spread and promote the learning of Spanish as a foreign language, and one of the most important assets that the Spanish Government has in order to contribute towards this objective are the prestigious "ISAs" or International Spanish Academies, where the students have the possibility to attain a bilingual English -Spanish Education. In this presentation, we will analyse some facts and figures of the International Spanish Academies, and we will go through its curriculum to check what the learning and teaching processes are like. K-8 Ministry of Education presents Highlights of the Revised Ontario Elementary FSL Curricula Faten Hanna, Dann Crandall, Ministry of Education This session will focus on the highlights of the revised FSL curriculum policy document for elementary Core French, Extended French, and French Immersion. Recipient of a scholarship funded by both the French Embassy in Canada and OMLTA, Sylvia will present a workshop on her experience in Nantes studying at Universités BELC, les métiers du français dans le monde. Seasonal scavenger hunts, nature journaling activities and animal tracking can provide authentic opportunities to teach the Core French curriculum. Resources will be provided to help you start up an outdoor component to your French program.
