Bishop Arts District (Dallas) - Saturday, November 23, 12:00 - 5:00 PM. The Bishop Arts District is a popular neighborhood
in Dallas. There are many small shops and restaurants with delicious food. Enjoy candy at Dude, Sweet! Chocolate, taste
fried green tomatoes at Hae’s, or shop at the local stores. Please sign up in Amber’s oce (SYMR 202) by Friday,November 22.

There will be a TOEFL Test oered by IELI on
Friday, November 22 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.
Level 6/6 students can sign up during Week 4.
It is free for students in Level 6/6.
Level 5/5 or 5/6 can sign up during Week 5.
It will cost $32 for students in Level 5/5 and 5/6.
No one who is below Level 5/5 will be able to
sign up. No excepons.
Sign ups will be in the IELI Main Oce (SYMR 204).
There will not be classes at UNT or IELI on November 28 and29 in celebraon of the Thanksgiving holiday.
What is Thanksgiving?
The “First Thanksgiving” was celebratedby the rst New England colonists, also
known as Pilgrims, aer their rst
harvest in the New World in 1621. Thisfeast lasted three days and was aended
by about 53 Pilgrims and 90 NaveAmericans. The Pilgrims were accustomed to regularly
celebrang "thanksgivings"—days of prayer thanking God for
blessings such as military victory or the end of a drought. TheConnental Congress proclaimed the rst naonal
Thanksgiving in 1777. President Abraham Lincoln declared it anaonal day 1863, but each President aer him had to
proclaim Thanksgiving each year unl 1941, when Congressestablished it as a permanent holiday.The classic Thanksgiving menu of turkey, cranberries,
pumpkin pie, and root vegetables is based on New England
fall harvests. Each region of the United States and each familyhave dierent tradions for Thanksgiving. Overall, if there is
one day each year when food and family take center stage, it
is Thanksgiving. It is a holiday about going home, celebrangfamily, and enjoying the company of the ones you love.
If you signed up for the Payment Plan, thenal payment is due this Friday, November
22. Students that have not made the full
payment on Friday, November 22, will be
charged a $10.00 late fee and will not be
allowed to aend classes unl tuion is paid
in full. Please speak to Alissa, Sycamore
Room 205, if you have any quesons.
ALL current students (including Level 6students who plan to graduate) must
complete the online pre-registraon for
Spring I. Students can pre-register online atmy.unt.edu between Week 5 Monday, November
18, at 8:00 AM and Friday, November 22.
If you need help registering online, there is a
PowerPoint presentaon located on the IELI website. Log-in at
ieli.unt.edu and it will be under the “Important Resources”menu on the right side. You can also go to the IELI Lab in MARQ
314 for help. If your plans change aer you register, you must
go to the IELI Main Oce, SYMR 204, to update your pre-
registraon form.
Spring I term dates are January 13 - March 7, 2014

pracce in English, then ladies group is for you!There is always free food and lots of fun.

you can watch popular TV shows during your lunch break! It
will be every Wednesday and Friday, 12:00 - 1:00 PM in

Wednesday, November 20: Fringe. A televisiondrama centered around a female FBI agent whois forced to work with an instuonalizedscienst in order to raonalize a brewing storm
of unexplained events.
Friday, November 22: Doctor Who. Doctor Whois the popular Brish science con TV show
about a me travelling alien and his companions.
He travels through space and me and goes onmany adventures, rescuing people and planets.
The TV show began in 1963 and connues today.

and learn about their culture and customs. It

Business Leadership Building Atrium

Winter Break will be from December 13, 2013 - January 12, 2014. If you are planning to travel duringthe holidays, do not plan to leave unl aer 5:00 PM
on December 10.
