One thousand years ago, Freemont people found shelter in a shallow cave in Echo Rock.

Later, Indian tribes wintered in the valley seeking refuge from the snows of the high country. In the 1800s, folks sought healing from respiratory ailments in the crisp, clean mountain air. Hospitality rooted itself in the 1920s when Frend Neville, a local cattleman, built a lodge and four cabins on the banks of the Big Thompson River and called it Sylvan Dale.

The Jessup story began in 1934 when a Kansas kid, working his way through college, arrived in the valley for a summer job and caught a vision of what the little ranch on the Big Thompson could someday be. Eleven years later, in 1946, Maurice and his wife, Mayme, bought Sylvan Dale.

The Big Thompson Flood of 1976 threatened to put an end to the dream, but reconstruction efforts were successful and the Ranch continues to bless folks to this day.

March 7, 2013 marks the beginning of our 67th year at Sylvan Dale. Much has happened since

our parents, with barely enough money to make the down payment, grabbed hold of a dream and made it a reality. The growth and change that has happened since this humble beginning has helped define who and what we are today.

We would love to share the beauty of Sylvan Dale with your family this season.
