divERSitat WinS at tHE inauGuRal auStRalian miGRation and SEttlEmEnt aWaRdSOutstanding individuals and organisations from across Australia were honoured recently for their work in assisting the settlement of new migrants at the inaugural Australian Migration and Settlement Awards at Parliament House, Canberra on March 18. Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou were among guests for presentation of the inaugural

awards across seven categories.Diversitat won the key Settlement Innovation Award which recognises an organisation that has demonstrated the most innovative methods in the support of new refugees, migrants or the local community. Its Northern Community Hub at Norlane was named the nation’s best example of settlement innovation. The award was proudly accepted by Michael Martinez, Diversitat’s CEO.

“The Hub will now serve as a working model for other hubs to be developed throughout Australia.” Mr Martinez said.

One of Diversitat Training’s clients, Turi Foods, was also a finalist in the Business Inclusion catergory of the awards for their work in the training of migrants. Congratulations!

dEalinG WitH ConFliCtConflict is a normal part of healthy relationships. After all, two people can’t be expected to agree on everything at all times. In this one day course learn how to deal with conflict. BaSkEt WEavinGLearn some of the basics of basket weaving, coiling, twining, stitching and how to source your materials from harvesting vines, grasses and leaves, to inclusion of recycled materials in your basket. Make a coiled basket or a simple melon basket using the twining method with your chosen materials.




FEltinGWould you like to make beautiful hand felted items? Learn the basics of wet felting, using locally sourced merino wool, silks and a variety of recycled materials. During this course you will explore basic felt making techniques where you will make flat felt, 3D felt and seamless felt.




WomEn’S CRaFt CiRClEThe ‘Women’s Craft Circle’ is a social group where women can attend no matter what their experience level is with arts and crafts. The group offers great company with the opportunity to learn new skills, you can even teach some of your own art/craft to others if you wish to!
