LH 4228RM: 92 days — VT3Pro hybridA medium-height plant with girthy ears, strongstalks and excellent stress tolerance. Position thisnew 92-day Triple Pro hybrid with top-end yield inmind. Plant at higher populations for optimumperformance.

LH 4400RM: 94 days — Conventional hybridThis high-yielding conventional hybrid performswell on all soil types — from your least to mosthighly productive fields. Above average stress anddrought tolerance along with good stalks and rootsgives it the ability to really perform. Excellent grainquality.

LH 4455RM: 94 days — VT3Pro hybridThese two new hybrids feature excellent stalks androots plus good grain quality and test weight. Theplant height is shorter allowing for less residue ifdesired. The Triple Pro option belongs to the

Latham Gladiator class of hybrids making it anexcellent choice for continuous corn. Also, LH 4454VT2Pro.

LH 4579RM: 95 days — SS hybridA brand new SmartStax/Gladiator hybrid withstrong roots and stalks which allow for higherpopulations while delivering big yields with heaviertest-weight grain. It responds best when kept in andnorth of its maturity zone.

LH 4819RM: 98 days — SS hybridGreat stalks and roots give this SmartStax hybridhealthy, late-season intactness and stay green. Itfeatures excellent test-weight grain and fastdrydown. It is a Latham Gladiator hybrid forcontinuous corn and can move south of its maturityzone.

LH 5185RM: 101 days — VT2Pro hybridThis new hybrid carries excellent root strength andlate-season intactness. Greensnap is seldom an issuewith the shorter plant type and semi-flex ears. Afoliar fungicide application may improve overallyields if diseases are present.

LH 5219RM: 102 days — SS hybridThe VT2Pro version of this hybrid was marketed in2012 as LH 5465. This new SmartStax/Gladiatorproduct contains tremendous root strength andoverall plant health. It will perform well on lightersoils and can also benefit from foliar fungicideapplications.

LH 5349RM: 103 days — SS hybridThis new workhorse hybrid is ideally suited for thecentral Corn Belt and the Gladiator distinctionmakes it an excellent choice for continuous corn. Theshorter plant height helps those farmers concernedwith residue management. It should be kept withinits maturity zone.

LH 5420RM: 104 days — Conventional hybridThis is the new conventional version of our popularLH 5426 VT3Pro. It carries excellent tolerance toGoss’ wilt and a superior all-around defensivepackage. It features good stalks and roots alongwith a big, girthy ear.

LH 5534RM: 105 days — 3000GT hybridThis hybrid was released in 2012 as LH 5532 GT.This 3000GT version produces large, full-flex earson a solid stalk and root. The excellent early seasonvigor allows it to handle cooler soils under reducedtillage or no-till situations.

LH 5689RM: 106 days — SS hybridThis is the SmartStax version of our popular LH5686 VT3Pro. It also carries the Gladiatordistinction marking it as a hybrid that fares well incontinuous corn. Offers fast drydown, excellentroots and a superb yield-to-moisture ratio. A foliarfungicide application will enhance late-seasonintactness.

LH 5750RM: 107 days — Conventional hybridProduces fast-drying, high-quality grain on long, girthy ears. It carries a superb score for Goss’ wilttolerance and should be kept within its maturityzone for optimum performance.

LH 5779RM: 107 days — SS hybridThis new SmartStax hybrid is a shorter plantmaking it ideal for farmers seeking reducedamounts of residue. The Gladiator classificationmeans it will do well in continuous corn. It is a lowrisk for greensnap for areas where that is anongoing problem.

81A04GLRM: 104-105 days — 3000GT hybridConsistently brings good yields. It hasa flex ear type and performs bestwhen kept on productive soils.

2M04-2P RIBRM: 104-105 days — Biotech hybridPerformed well in our testing lastyear and has done the same this year.Best when placed on high yielding,non-rootworm acres.

82X06RM: 105-106 days — Herculex XtrahybridLarge girthy ears with deep kernelsand good grain quality. It also hasgood fall health and appearance.

2M07-SS RIBRM: 107-108 days — Biotech hybridTop-end yield potential and responds

well to a fungicide application. Thishybrid works well in all rotations andsoil types.

4DP898RIBRM: 95 days — Genuity VT DoublePro Complete hybridElite top-end yield potential. Greatperformance in stressfulenvironments. Short, open huskallows for fast drydown. Semi-flex earthat responds well to medium-high tohigh populations.

4ST640RIBRM: 97 days — Genuity SmartStaxRIB Complete hybridExtremely high top-end yieldpotential. Best on rotated acres thatare high-yield environments.Excellent greensnap tolerance. Plant

at medium to medium-highpopulations for best performance.

4ST505RIBRM: 98 days — Genuity SmartStaxRIB Complete hybridExcellent yield potential in bothhighly productive and stressfulenvironments. Excellent roots andgreensnap tolerance. Good Goss’ wilttolerance. Adapted to both continuouscorn and rotated acres.

5ST870RIBRM: 101 days — Genuity SmartStaxRIB Complete hybrid Good yield potential and high testweight. Good seedling growth androots. Works well in corn-soybeanand continuous corn rotations. Fixedear product, so medium-high to highplant populations are needed to helpmaximize yield potential.

Farmers are encouraged to wait untilsoil temperatures remain below 50degrees Fahrenheit before applyinganhydrous ammonia (NH3) fertilizerthis fall.

With the record early harvest thisyear, officials with the Iowa Depart-ment of Agriculture and Land Stew-ardship and Iowa State UniversityExtension and Outreach said thatwaiting can help reduce nitrogen lossand better protects the environment.

“With farmers finishing harvest ear-lier than normal, it is important thatthey still wait for cooler soil temps toapply anhydrous so that there is a bet-ter chance the fertilizer stays put andwill be available to the crop nextspring,” said Bill Northey, Iowa Secre-tary of Agriculture. “Soil temperatures, like air temperatures, can changequickly so it is important that we waitwith applications until soils are likelyto remain below 50 degrees.”

“Historically, soil temperatures at a4-inch depth cool below 50 degrees inthe northern third of the state duringthe first week of November,” saidElwynn Taylor, ISU Extension andOutreach climatologist. “In central andsouthern Iowa, soil temperatures coolbelow 50 degrees during the secondweek and third weeks of November.”

ISU Extension and Outreach main-

tains a statewide real-time soil tem-perature data map on their websitethat ag retailers and farmers use todetermine when fall N applications areappropriate. The website can be foundat http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/NPKnowledge.

Farmers should also be mindful topay special attention when applyinganhydrous ammonia to dry soil. Drysoil can hold ammonia, but if they arecloddy and do not seal properly, theammonia can be lost at injection orseep through the large pores betweenclods after application.

With this in mind, farmers and appli-cators should assure proper depth ofinjection and good soil coverage whenapplying into dry soils. If following around of application in the field theammonia can still be smelled theapplicator should make adjustmentsor wait for better conditions.

Farmers with questions about timingof fertilizer applications can talk totheir local Extension specialist or theirag retailer for more information.
