thank Amanda for her willingness to serve our beloved sisterhood! Not only do we have several new advisors to the collegiate chapter, but we also have several new officers serving our local alumnae chapter as well. Thanks to our new VP of the Alumnae Chapter, Eve Rebecca Toomey ’07, our alumnae chapter has featured memorable events this year that have been well attended. One of our favorite annual events is our IRD luncheon, where we mingled with local sisters and enjoyed a sunny afternoon with southern food and sweet tea! Last spring we hosted a Senior Supper and Rededication Ceremony for our graduating seniors. We had a lovely dinner on the patio at the home of Dixie Conner ’86 and enjoyed one last evening with a special group of graduating seniors. It gave these seniors a chance to learn about staying involved as alumnae, and it gave us an opportunity to hear about their future plans. During the summer, our Secretary, Fran Pierson Lyons ’84, represented our alumnae chapter at International Convention. Fran’s daughter, Sarah Margaret Lyons, and Chapter President Annie Stephens represented the collegiate chapter. Lauren Gross, Anna Gore, Christa Lee Liptko, Jenna Le Heard, Catherine Taylor, Lauren Wannemuehler and Allison Thomas also represented Gamma Delta. The collegiate chapter was awarded the Annulet as well as Most Improved Grades and the Rose Bowl (scholarship). Congratulations, girls! Our alumnae chapter was awarded the Best Newsletter Award at International Convention for Chatterbox 2012. We’d like to thank Anna Claire Stamps Vollers ’01, editor of The Chatterbox, who brings excellence to the publication, which has won best Newsletter Award twice in the last three International Conventions. You can find the Chatterbox online at http://issuu.com/gammadeltachatterbox. Over the summer, we met for our Summer Salad Luncheon to prepare for recruitment. In August, we helped welcome 61 baby squirrels to Auburn’s

chapter. This is always an exciting time as we get to meet all of the new faces of Alpha Gam. Laura Webb Rabren ’83 opened her lovely home to the new girls and our alumnae chapter in the fall for a New Member Dinner where we got to know these New M e m b e r s . We enjoyed a taste of home cooking and southern hospitality and enjoyed learning more about our new sisters. We also honored two of our Auburn/Opelika alumnae with Honors of Epsilon Pi. Susan Lovett Speakman ’85 received the Honors of Epsilon Pi Arc with Diamonds and Dorinda Gunter Miller ’75 received the Honors of Epsilon Pi Arc with Diamond. Susan and Dorinda are well-deserving of these honors. Our last gathering of the year was our annual Christmas event. We met in downtown Opelika for wine and cheese and spent some quality time together before the rush of the holidays. Since then, we have been in preparation for 2013! I have high hopes for our both our alumnae chapter and the collegiate chapter this year. After installing new alumnae officers and chapter advisors in 2012, we hope that new ideas will continue to grow and participation will flourish. Please remember our annual Plant Sale in April. It was a huge success last year due to the leadership of Kimble Manley Eastman ’83. Kimble planned and organized the Plant Sale and we successfully raised enough money to contribute to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation at the Jewel level ($1,000 or more). We appreciate the family of Patsy Young ’93 in helping with the sale.

Our Plant Sale is approaching again and if you are interested in donating to our local alumnae chapter, your contributions are appreciated. Please send checks to the Auburn-Opelika Alumnae Treasurer, Dorinda Gunter Miller ’75 at 1401 Blackhawk Drive, Opelika, AL, 36801. We welcome you to get involved with our alumnae group! Please email Elizabeth Jernigan Rodgers ’75 at [email protected] with your contact information. If you are not in Auburn-Opelika but would like to get involved with your local chapter, please visit http://www.alphagammadelta.org and find your sisters! I encourage you to participate with your local alumnae chapter as it can be most rewarding and help you make connections all over the country!

rected by Catherine Edwards along-side seven other Alpha Gams. For the fourth year in a row, Al-pha Gamma Delta took the title of Greek Sing champions as the “Alpha Grandmas,” led by Emily Busby, Alex Ingram and Lau-ren Tidwell. While some were dancing, other Alpha Gams –Jessie Harrison, Millie Harrison, EA Moore and Brittany Moates – were busy per-forming in the AU Singers’ spring concert. Social Chair Mallory Bennett kept everyone busy. We enjoyed an Aspen in Auburn social, Valen-tine’s date party, rave social, and of course our annual spring semi-for-mal, Swampwater. While Alpha Gam participated in fun social events, the chapter was still able to take care of busi-ness. Philanthropy Chair Brit-tany Moates led the chapter in a successful walk to support juvenile diabetes research, raising close to $5,000. The Alpha Gamma Delta Chapter also won first in grades on campus. Over the summer, the Gamma Delta chapter continued to serve. Two sisters represented our chapter as Camp War Eagle counselors for incoming freshmen. At the International Alpha Gamma Delta conference, the Gamma Delta chapter alumnae and collegians re-ceived many awards, including the prestigious Annulet Award and the Rose Bowl. When we returned for the fall se-mester, Gamma Delta’s recruitment was a wonderful success. While we had four members representing us in secret as Pi Chi leaders, Re-

cruitment co-ordinators An-nie Stephens, Anna Gore and Christa Lee Lipko worked tireless-ly to bring us our new pledge class. The 61 new baby squir-rels were initi-ated into the chapter in Octo-ber. Catherine E d w a r d s served as “Mama Nut” to the baby squirrels, and she, as well as her four assis-tants, did a great job supporting and encouraging our new sisters. The baby squirrels had a great time at new member meet-ings, and always looked forward to the infamous themed swaps. Seven-teen of our new baby squirrels were selected for the prominent Fresh-men Leadership Program. The fall semester was filled with fun and exciting social events. There was the timeless Psychedelic social, All Around the World social, a “Jo-cial,” or jeans social, Tacky Christ-mas, and Fall Formal. We also had a great time during Greek Week, for which Rebekah Davis was an assistant director. During the week, Ashley Willis was crowned Miss Greek Week, and the chapter won the overall week and was able to host a pizza party for the Boys and Girls Club! During the football season we were able to cheer on our sisters who were on the field. Cheerleaders Lucy Mashburn and Francie Harris; Tiger Paws Holland Brown, Caitlin McCal-lum and Nichole Moulton; and Dance Line member Lizzie Hart-ley looked as energetic as ever all season long. We are so proud of our accom-plishments as a sisterhood, and we all look forward to the upcoming year ahead of us!

Wiggins Mechani-cal Engineering Hall and unveiled a historic grandfather clock first installed in Ramsay Hall in 1925. The clock was once responsible for ringing all the bells on campus; for nearly 37 years, mechanical engi-neering professor John C. McK-innon kept the clock accurate to within seconds. ow blessed I was to have had

the chance to go to the 2012 Alpha Gamma Delta Convention in St. Louis. I am honored and thankful to have this opportunity. What a wonderful group of girls!

There is so much information to share about my trip. It was an amazing experience.

We won the Annulet! We also won the award for Most Improved Grades and theRose Bowl for Scholarship. Thank you to Kimble Manley Eastman ’83, ScholarshipAdvisor to the Chapter for all your leadership.

The Auburn/Opelika Alumnae Chapter won the Best Newsletter Award for The Chatterbox. Thank you to Anna Claire Stamps Vollers ’01 for our beautiful and informative annual newsletter. We also received a $50 check for the award. We received many complements for The Chatterbox!

Members of Gamma Delta were asked to participate in several areas of Convention. I was asked to be the Arc Officer for the Honors of Epsilon Pi Ceremony. I had an excellent view of two circles being awarded. There are many conventions where none have been awarded and never two at a time. Jackie Brannon Stutts ’77 and Benita Dick were given the

honors. There are only 22 that have been awarded during our history.

My daughter, Gamma Delta Sarah Margaret Lyons, was asked to be a page for theConvention. She helped hand out awards, answer questions and participated in the

Closing Ceremony. Annie Stephens, 2012 Gamma Delta President, was a Garland Bearer for the Honors of Epsilon Pi Service. Four collegians were asked to participate in thePreference Day Workshop ceremony reenactment: Lauren Gross, Sarah Margaret Lyons, Anna Gore and Christa Lee Liptko.

AGD International Headquarters has moved into a new space this past fall. The building is being renovated and a Headquarters Building Campaign is underway. Please consider purchasing furniture or dedicating a room in honor or memory of a special Alpha Gam. Perhaps our Alums and Collegians could work together toward this goal?

The next convention will be in Indianapolis on July 9-12, 2013. This is a great opportunity to tour the new Headquarters building.

Beth Chapman, Alabama’s Secretary of State was honored as one of three Distinguished Citizens. She was unable to attend as she was attending the convention for Secretaries of State. Beth is president of this group.

Several chapters from Alabama were recognized for Awards. Alpha Gamma Delta is very strong in Alabama.

Attending convention is informative and fun! I would recommend anyone who has the opportunity to attend to take advantage of it. It was a special time for me with my daughter and my sisters.
