    Other Information

Burford School is located in Marlow Bottom. Its catchment area is the village itself, although many children do liveoutside the catchment. We are always at capacity and are currently trying to extend the school hall in order toaccommodate all the children comfortably.

The school is a healthy school and runs many before school, lunchtime and after school activities. We do not have anursery but the local nursery does collect children after school. A minibus collects older children and takes them to anafterschool club based in Marlow.

Burford School has for many years been proud of all the work it does to keep the children safe and is constantlyreviewing its policies and procedures.

We are always concerned about the amount of traffic that passes the school and hence have developed a STP tofocus parents and the local community. We regularly write in the fortnightly head teacher's newsletters and consultparents and the local community about the issues we face.

We are a very hard working and dedicated team of volunteers, trying to make it safer for the children to travel toschool. We need more parents to volunteer however. We run Going For Gold (stamping), Walk to School weeks, Biketo School weeks, the Tour De Burford week, Footsteps training for years 1, 2, 3 and 6, Spokes Biking Training foryears 5 and 6, JRSOs, police contact, parish council contact, newspaper and magazine contact. We attend and runassemblies and the JRSOs run fun competitions for the children.

We are constantlytalking to the parishcouncil aboutspeeding. CazMcCall is a parishcouncillor as well asa member of ourtravel team. RachelRobinson, head ofthe Parish Council, isalso very active withtrying to reducespeed.

The council have usedthe speed warningdevice on the roadthroughout the year. Wehave tried to ask BCC fora permanent speedcamera but we have notbeen successful. Wehave also asked forspeed bumps and azebra crossing but to noavail. We have alsoasked for the areaaround the school to bea 20 mph zone. We willcontinue to work closelywith the parish councilon this matter. Attachedis a facebook status bythe parish council.

SD3park and walk/ carfree zone in place

We use HighwoodsDrive and the Villagehall car park as ourPark and Walk sites. These areapproximately half amile from school. Ourinduction leaflethighlights theseareas and theschool's website hasa map of the zones.

Parents are advisedwhere our park and walkzones are. All parentsreceive the inductionleaflet which indicateswhere the zones are. Weencourage them to parkthere and walk the rest. The Village HallPreschool uses thesame car park so one ofthese park and walkzones is very busy. Wehave talked to parentsabout being consideratewhen parking, throughour fortnightly headteacher's newsletters. The walking map isavailable on the website.

PT6private coaches forschool trips pick upand set down insafe / accessibleplaces.

We use variouscoach companies -such as Heyfordian,M&M Coaches.Regular coach tripswe make includeweekly swimming forthe children in year3. We use 1 coach. For other schooltrips, often we need2 coaches to carrythe 60 children plusthe adults.Sometimes, we usejust one externalcoach as we use theminibus we own too.

We have an establishedrelationship with thecoach companies. Theyall know that they needto buzz at the gate andthat they then drive inbackwards with theirbeepers on. The schooldrive now has a fencenext to it so it is safe forthe children who mightbe walking down thefootpath. The coachesstop at the open area atthe top of the drive. Thechildren are kept on thefootpaths by theteachers. The teachersalways ensure they carrysupplies on the coachessuch as water and a sickbucket.
