I hope that you are having a wonderful summer as a family and making some lifetime memories. With great anticipation, we have been busy preparing and praying for the start of school in August. God has indeed shown himself strong throughout the years on our campus as we have witnessed hundreds of lives being changed and forever friendships being forged.

As I have sought the Lord about our school focus and theme for 2013-2014, He has led me to a passage of Scripture in Joshua 3 for that inspiration. In verse 5, the Bible declares:”Sanctify yourselves today; for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”

From this passage, God has given me the theme setting ourselves apart for God’s glory. Our staff and faculty will endeavor to point our students to the truth that as a result of our faith and trust in Jesus Christ we can truly see God do great things among us.

Adrian Rogers, a great preacher, once said; “The task ahead of us is never as great as the power behind us." My prayer is that our student, faculty, staff, and families will truly know and experience the resurrection power that Paul spoke of in Philippians as part of their everyday walk. God never intended for His children to live defeated lives and because of His presence we can truly experience victory in Jesus. Would you join me in praying for a school year in which we all would see and experience the reality of God doing great things in the lives our students, staff and families?

I encourage you to take the time to carefully read the content of this Back to School Guide. We have many new staff members and program improvements for this coming year. I know you will be pleased with all that is planned. Our offices are open over the summer. Please feel free to contact our offices if you have any questions.

I look forward to seeing all of you soon!

must report immediately to the academy office to sign

the student out. The same procedure applies to

students who drive themselves to and from school with

the exception that they will be able to sign themselves

in the Parent-Student Handbook. The handbook can be

viewed on the www.metrolinachristian.org web site

under Campus Life and also in ParentsWeb under

Resources.

CHAPEL AT METROLINA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Our chapel teams are

working hard to invite

engaging speakers for

the 2013-2014 school

year. The chapel

schedules for the

upcoming school year

will be posted on our

web site by August 16,

2013.

Our chapels are held weekly and divided by grade

levels:

Junior Kindergarten-2nd Grade attend chapel every

Thursday at 9:30 AM

3rd-5th Grades attend chapel every Thursday at

8:30 AM

Grades 6-12 attend chapel every Wednesday at

9:30 AM

NEW this Year! - This fall we will have separate

Spiritual Emphasis Weeks. Lower School students will

be hearing from Shawn McBride out of Washington,

D.C., October 22-24. Frank Shelton from Washington,

D.C., will be addressing our Upper School students

September 16-18.

As always, we encourage parents to attend chapels

whenever possible. We do ask that you sign in at one

of the school offices and wear a visitor sticker while

you are on campus.

THE MCA PRAYER MINISTRY

MCA Prayer Partners is headed up by two of our

alumni parents, Bill and Sandy Reule. Recognizing the

importance of prayer, they are asking parents to join

the faculty and staff in committing the 2013-2014

school year to our Lord. The purpose of MCA Prayer

Partners is for parents to pray for our students and

families, our teachers (and the classrooms in general),

for chapels, events and administration. This ministry

connects it’s members with each individual prayer

request via email and all that we ask is for each

member to stop and pray for the request as they read

the email. Requests are sent to one of two emails and

are forwarded to the members. We will have a sign-up

sheet and specific information available at our New

Parent Orientation and at our Family Orientation. If you

have questions or would like to go ahead and join this

ministry, please email Bill Reule at [email protected].

MCA Prayer Partners also has a

volunteer Prayer Card

Ministry. Our goal is to send a

handwritten card to each

person that sends in a prayer

request to let them know that

they are being prayed for! If

you are interested in assisting

with the Prayer Card Ministry,

please contact Carol Walton at

[email protected] for

specific details.

Our third facet is new this year. We are thrilled to

announce the formation of the MCA Moms In Prayer

group! This group will meet once per week to

intercede together for our students, families and our

school. This will not be a time of socializing, it will be

intentional and focused prayer by MCA parents! Our

Moms In Prayer will also be involved in our Patriots’

Day, SYATP, our National Day of Prayer, and scheduled

prayer walks. We will have a sign-up sheet and specific

information available at our New Family Orientation

and at our Parent/Student Orientation. We have

several parents heading this new ministry; however, if

you have specific questions, please contact Lesa Roffler

at [email protected].

METROLINA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

For the 2013-2014 school year, lunch orders can be submitted beginning August 15, 2013. All school lunches will be ordered online through ParentsWeb. NO lunch credits will be issued due to absences, field trips, etc. ORDERING LUNCH

Log onto ParentsWeb.

Select Student Information.

Select Lunch.

Select the Student for whom you are ordering lunch.

Select the month. The month can be changed by selecting the arrows next to the month.

Select Create Web Order. This is located below the calendar.

Lunch for each day will be shown on the list. To order lunch put a “1” for Qty by the lunch to be ordered.

Lunch should be ordered for all the days listed at one time. Placing multiple orders in a month will result in duplicate lunch charges.

The Grand Total at the bottom of the list will show the total ordered for all Lower School Students in the family.

Select Order Items.

NOTE: Each Lower School lunch order includes milk. Milk can also be ordered separately for days a lunch is not ordered. “Milk without lunch” must be ordered on the first day of the month. For example, if you order milk for 6 days in a month, the Qty listed would be 6. Your child will be responsible for getting the 6 milks that month.

PAYING FOR LUNCH

All lunch orders must be prepaid. You can prepay for lunch by applying funds to your lunch account by check, cash or by PayNow on ParentsWeb . For Upper School students, these funds can be applied to Grab-N-Go purchases. [Grab-N-Go is a selection of items such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, ice cream, etc. Grab-N-Go options do not have to be pre-ordered. Payment for Grab-N-Go is made from the lunch account balance, cash, or check at the time of purchase.]

If there is no money in the lunch account or your student does not have cash, the student will be allowed to charge a limited amount of Grab-N-Go purchases. Payment must be made by the end of the month for your child to continue to charge for items. If you do not want your child to charge any purchases, you must notify the finance office via email.

Payment is due two weeks before the lunch is provided. Orders will not be placed if payment is not received by the due date.

Payment for initial lunch orders (August through September 6, 2013) are due by Monday, August 26, 2013. All lunch orders after this date must be paid in full 2 weeks before the lunch is provided.

Check payment may be placed in the payment boxes in the Upper School office, lunch room, finance office or sent to school in the Lower School student folders. One check may be sent in for all students in the family. Please note in the memo line of the check “Lunch”.

Cash prepayments must be made in the Upper School Office, Lower School Office, or finance office.

Students who do not order lunch or bring payment by due date will not be served a hot lunch. Upper School students can purchase from the Grab-N-Go options. Lower School students will receive an alternate lunch which may include a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chips, and milk. The cost of the alternate lunch is $3.50 and will be billed to the family account.

CHANGING LUNCH ORDERS

Once lunch has been ordered through ParentsWeb, you may not make changes to the order. Making changes through ParentsWeb will result in duplicate charges.

Changes cannot be made for the current or past weeks.

Changes can be made to lunch orders for future weeks by contacting Kathy Jackson at 704 882-3375 or [email protected].

TO VIEW LUNCH ORDERS, PAYMENTS, LUNCH ACCOUNT BALANCE

Lunch orders, payments and balance may be viewed on ParentsWeb by selecting Family Information.

Select Family Billing.

Select Lunch Details.

All processed lunch orders and payments will be displayed on the statement.

Please contact Kathy Jackson at 704 882-3375 or [email protected] if you have any questions about ordering lunch through ParentsWeb. Lunch Policy One of the priorities at MCA is to provide your child with a nutritious lunch each day. In an effort to keep tuition at an affordable rate, we want to be conscious of our food costs; therefore, we will not be issuing credits due to absences, field trips, etc. If your child leaves their lunch at home, accommodations will be made for him/her to have a lunch. However, it may not necessarily be what is on the menu for that day. Your monthly statement will reflect the lunch charges incurred by your child. If you have any questions, please contact Lynn Laney for Lower School or Becky Sutton for Upper School.

With the assistance of the Advancement Office, Metrolina Christian

Academy is committed to involving our families and friends in the school’s

daily efforts and vision casting for the future by providing opportunities for

them to invest their time, talents and treasures. MCA is dependent on the

generosity of volunteers and donors to help advance our ministry. We seek

your support and covet your prayers for MCA.

There are many ways to invest in MCA and each investment makes a

difference. We appreciate your interests in partnering with us. We are

excited to see how God continues to work through MCA and how He uses

your time, talents and resources to make a difference for the next

generation for Christ.

What fundraisers does the school have? It is the responsibility of the

Advancement Office to conduct and/or approve all fundraisers that benefit

the school or school groups. MCA’s primary fundraiser is the Annual

Cornerstone Fund, which kicks off each fall with a four-week gift-giving

campaign. To assist the Annual Cornerstone Fund in meeting its fundraising

goals, there are several special events (Golfers’ Challenge &

Springapalooza), activities and programs throughout the school year. Check

out www.metrolinachristian.org, click on Support MCA for an overview of

fundraising at MCA.

Am I expected to give to the fundraisers? We prayerfully ask that all of our

MCA families contribute each year to the Annual Cornerstone Fund. MCA

has a strong tradition and spirit of giving by its families to support our

growing ministry.

Why doesn’t MCA allow product sales to raise money? MCA made a

commitment to its parents many years ago that we would not ask them or

students to participate in magazine, cookie, gift wrap or product sales of

any kind. Instead, we encourage each parent to participate and give to the

school through the Annual Cornerstone Fund or one of the special events or

programs it sponsors.

14 Metrolina Christian Academy | 2013-2014 Back-to-School Guide

The Metrolina Christian Academy Boosters is a volunteer

parent organization that operates under the auspices and

non-profit umbrella of Metrolina Christian Academy. To

accomplish our goals, we depend on contributions and

donations from parents and the community to generate

revenue through the sale of memberships, concessions,

apparel and through ticket sales for our annual BBQ set

for Friday, September 27. This partnering with family

members and local businesses is a key element in our

desire to have a positive impact within our community and

to enhance our efforts to equip our student athletes with

the tools needed to build Christian character and a Biblical

worldview.

The Boosters work to achieve these goals through:

The support, promotion and maintaining of a high

standard of integrity and good sportsmanship in all

athletic activities of the school.

The enhancement of a Biblical worldview of athletics.

The fostering and promotion of good will and

fraternal spirit among the members.

The promotion and encouragement of better

attendance to all sports activities by the parents,

friends of athletes, students and faculty of the

school.

The promotion and encouragement of more young

men and women to get involved in athletics, either

as an active participant or as a volunteer assistant.

The raising of funds to assist all athletic programs

through the school’s athletic fund.

Assisting to hold down expenses in the athletic

department by volunteering services.

The participation of members serving in areas of

parking, concession stand, chain gang, admission,

tickets, gates, timers, judges or any similar activity

approved by the athletic department.

Our goal is to have 100% Boosters membership

participation and support of all of our athletes and their

families. Please join and support your student athletes as

a Boosters member. If you would like more information or

want an application for membership, please, visit us online

at www.metrolinachristian.org, stop by the school office

or call the school at 704.882.3375. We hope you will take

advantage of the special membership privileges associated

with our Boosters. Our “Full Armor” membership

package, provides your family with passes to all non-

playoff home athletic events, two padded bleacher seats,

two polo shirts and a car decal.

Please join me and the Metrolina Christian Academy

Boosters in wishing our student-athletes’ success in all

their endeavors as they begin another year of athletic

competition. Being a core component of our student life,

athletics help our students learn valuable lessons -

discipline, faith, teamwork and sportsmanship. Your

Boosters membership helps support all of our athletes and

allows you and your family to be a part of the continued

legacy of Christian-based athletics at Metrolina Christian

Academy. Please join us!

UPPER SCHOOL

The traffic pattern is designed for maximum safety for our students. Parents are asked to observe all traffic

flow patterns. Since the safety of hundreds of students is involved, please give wholehearted cooperation in

observing these regulations. Designated drop-off/pick-up zones are clearly identified on the maps located on

pages 28, 29 and 30. Do not leave cars unattended in the car line. Please park in designated areas only.

Please watch your speed - the speed limit is 10 mph. Refrain from talking or texting on cell phones when

going through the car line.

UPPER SCHOOL STUDENT DROP-OFF

Upper School students should be dropped off at Point A as indicated on the map on page 28. This option

will allow you to enter from Gary Drive or Younts Road onto Paula Lane. Both Gary Drive and Paula Lane

lead you to the main school office area. Please follow the arrows on the map that indicate the drop-off

point for this side of the building. Drop–off Point A will provide a safe and easy access for all students to

get to their appropriate buildings. This option allows you to exit the property in the direction of Hemby

Bridge or to US Highway 74.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT PICK-UP

Middle School students should be picked up at Point D, in front of the Worship Center, as indicated on

the map on page 29. Please park in the Worship Center lot except for areas that are coned or roped off.

Students are dismissed at 2:50 PM. Staff will be present to ensure the safety of the students as they make

their way to their vehicles.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT PICK-UP

High School students should be picked up at Point A, the parking lot behind the Upper School Office, as

indicated on the map on page 30. Please park in the lot except for areas that are coned or roped off.

Students are dismissed at 3:00 PM. The students will be instructed to go to their cars. Staff will be

present to ensure the safety of the students as they make their way to their vehicles.
