2013 / 2014 ANNUAL REPORT

For the past 30 years, the Edmonds Public Schools & Alumni Foundation has been the Edmonds School District’s partner in bringing resources to help educate our youth. To date, the Foundation has issued nearly

$1 million in Classroom Enrichment Grants to enhance student learning.

This is the question we ask ourselves each day at the Edmonds Public Schools & Alumni Foundation.

For 30 years, our mission has been to raise funds to maximize the personal, creative and academic potential of students in the Edmonds School District. We take pride in the rich diversity of the cities within our boundaries and strive to support the unique educational journey of each student who lives here.

We determine where to focus our efforts — and your donations — by partnering closely with district staff and teachers to identify where the gaps exist. And, then we work hard to fill those gaps.

Our after-school study programs help struggling middle school students grasp math concepts and improve reading skills. We prepare high school students to be career and college ready, so graduating seniors will be ready to enter in-demand jobs in our region. Bridging the Digital Divide allows us to bring 20th century technology into the homes of low-income students. Creative classroom grants bring fun, innovative projects that enrich student learning. Scholarships ensure higher education and bright futures.

Over the past two years, donations to the Foundation have grown from $40,000 to $320,000 and have helped more than 4,100 students who were not on a career or college pathway.

Allows struggling students to receive homework and one-on-one academic support. The goal is to help these learners become more fluent readers, more proficient in math, and most importantly, to stay on track toward graduation.

AFTER-SCHOOL STUDY PROGRAMS

Small, innovative classroom and schoolwide grants that support teacher instruction and enhance classroom learning environments.

CLASSROOM & SCHOOLWIDE ENRICHMENT GRANTS

Bringing digital media to low-income students in their homes. Students will no longer scramble to find alternative resources to complete assignments, and are able to stay abreast of homework assignments.

BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

PLAN/PSAT exams are offered to 3,000 sophomore and junior students, and are conducted at all five comprehensive high schools. This eliminates cost, access and transportation barriers, and helps students to identify potential college pathways.

PLAN / PSAT TEST FEES

College in the High School Tuition is a program that allows students to take college-level courses while in high school, with a fee required to earn college credit. The Foundation provides scholarships or College in the High School tuition for students in financial need.

STIPENDS FOR COLLEGE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL TUITION

The Foundation annually awards scholarships to graduating district seniors to pursue post-secondary vocational and college academic opportunities.

POST-SECONDARY ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Summer math and reading support helps lagging students to stay abreast of and master key math concepts, and continue to develop fluid reading styles in preparation for the next academic year.

SUMMER MATH & READING SUPPORT

While funding classroom and schoolwide programs will continue to be core areas of support, we are now working more strategically with the district to align funding with specific areas

of need so that students can achieve their personal, academic and creative potential.

Our programs are designed to give students the opportunity to achieve academic success throughout their K-12 school career, so that they will be prepared to lead productive lives and enter post-secondary

education or career fields, and most importantly, so that ALL students will have hope for brighter futures!
