Dear Friends,

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,

patience, kindness, generosity,

faithfulness, gentleness and self- control.

Galatians 5: 22-23

In the same way we seek to have productive gardens, we

strive to cultivate and nurture productive traits growing in

our lives. As we follow Jesus’ example in our daily living,

the fruits of the Spirit will grow in us and overflow into our

dealing with others.

Recently, the back of a UCC bulletin cover had an

excellent article entitled, “Seniors, too”. As a senior, has

this happened to you? When you go the Doctor and

sign in for the appointment, the receptionist speaks only

to your daughter who was kind enough to drive you.

Same thing with the nurse, who ushers the two of you into

the consulting room. Finally, your physician appears and

asks your daughter about your condition. You want to

scream talk to me! I’m not so old that I can’t still explain

how I feel. It is not only physicians, but pharmacists,

hairdressers, store clerks and bank tellers.

Many are guilty of ignoring the older person and paying

attention only to their younger companion, even if they

are not the actual patient or customer. This leads older

people to feel as if they have lost some of their identity

and standing in our society. Let us all remember this

helpful piece in our dealings with the older generation or

the younger generation, for that matter. Identity was

important to Jesus, as he was inclusive and we should

strive to do the same!

On the journey with you, Pastor Linda

During the month of September, we ask you to focus on

the needs beyond the Church family. We have three

giving opportunities:

1 Bread for the World, Sunday, September 29th. We

request everyone bring in some Pasta product to

be donated to the Quakertown Food Pantry.

2 We will support Neighbors In Need, a special

mission for the United Church of Christ.

3 Support our walkers in the Crop Walk in October.

http://www.bread.org/ September 29

th St. John’s will be celebrating Bread For the

World Sunday. Today and in the weeks ahead we strive to

turn our Faith into action when we pray for:

Pray for all those who struggle with hunger, poverty,

and disease.

Learn more about the causes of and solutions to

hunger.

Use your time and financial resources to support

local and international efforts that provide food for

hungry people.

Speak up for hungry people by signing the petition to

the president at the website above, asking him to set a

goal and work with Congress on a plan to end hunger

in the United States and aboard.

We ask you to please bring at least one Pasta food item for

the Quakertown Food Pantry on September 29.
