The adage “all publicity isgood publicity” has proventrue for one of Philadelphia’stop companies, Urban Outfit-ters, whose president RichardHayne recently received thecoveted Edward Powell Awardas an example of excellence inthe city’s business community.
But in contrast to civic ex-cellence, Hayne’s brand drewthe ire of two ethnic groupsTuesday, with Saint Patrick’s
Day merchandise causing theAncient Order of Hibernians to
threaten a boy-cott and the useof the word“Navajo” inproduct de-scriptions caus-ing the tribe’sgovernment to
file a trademark infringementlawsuit. The offending Irishitems include a trucker hat
with a stick figure on all foursvomiting shamrocks thatreads “Irish Yoga,” and T-shirtsemblazoned with shamrocksaccompanied by logos such as“Irish I Were Drunk.”
“We need to get thisdefamation stopped immedi-ately. Please call, e-mail ordemonstrate in front of theirstores,” president SeamusBoyle wrote on the Hiberni-ans’ website.
The Navajo Nation, whichholds more than 10 trade-marks on products such asclothing and online sales, sentUrban Outfitters a cease anddesist order in June for the useof the word in the company’s“Navajo” collection. Urbanscrubbed from their websiteall references to the term, which it had been using to de-scribe everything from pantiesto hip flasks. But they contin-ued to use it in their catalog, retail stores and subsidiarybrand Free People, the lawsuitalleges. Free People’s websitewas selling several pieces ofvintage jewelry labeled “Nava-jo” as of yesterday.
Urban Outfitters has con-tinued its march from thesmall company founded witha few thousand dollars in the1970s to an empire worth over$700 million.

Abby Kessler, co-owner ofSmak Parlour four blockssouth of Lost + Found, said,“All the jewelry designers Iwork with say they’re afraidto put their stuff on Etsy, be-cause they don’t want any-one to copy it.”
Though local fashion en-

This is not the first timeUrban Outfitters has beeninvolved in a controversy alleging discrimination:
They discontinued a T-shirtreading “Everyone Loves aJewish Girl,” surrounded bydollar signs in 2003 afterpressure from the Anti-Defamation League. They stopped manufactur-ing glittery handgun-shaped Christmas tree
ornaments in 2007 follow-ing the fatal shooting ofPhiladelphia police officerChuck Cassidy. The company issued an apol-ogy in 2007 for marketingkeffiyehs as “antiwar”scarves and did the same in2008 after discontinuing a T-

The largest raw milk-relateddisease outbreak in Pennsylva-nia’s history, which sickened43 people in four states, wastraced back to Franklin Coun-ty’s Family Cow farms. But ad-vocates of the product say theyhave no intention to stop drink-ing it and purveyors say they’veseen no decrease in demand.
“People who are into rawmilk are very passionately in-to it,” said Paul Lawler, dairyand meat manager of theReading Terminal’s Fair FoodFarmstand, one of the city'sleading vendors of raw milk.
He said that the Farmstandcarried Family Cow farms rawmilk until its voluntary recallin early February, but has notrestocked it out of an abun-dance of caution. They havefive other brands to choosefrom and have seen no declinein sales. “A lot of our cus-tomers come from pretty far
to buy it because they believein its different nutritional ben-efits,” he said.
“And it creates economicopportunities for farmers – adairy farmer who’s just sellingliquid milk only makes pen-nies on the dollar, but rawmilk is a much more valuedproduct.”
A recent study from the
Center for Disease Controlconcluded that the risks ofdrinking raw milk out-weighed its possible benefits, noting that there were 150times more disease outbreakslinked to unpasteurized milkthan pasteurized during the13-year review.
“Real milk” advocacy groupthe Weston A. Price Founda-tion called the informationsupporting the conclusion“cherry picked” in a press re-lease, noting that dairy prod-ucts in total comprised an aver-age of 112 food-borne illnessesper year out of almost 24,000.

46Romney won an estimated 46 delegates on Tuesday to Santorum’s estimated 13.(The Santorum camp claims15, but the final count willtake a little while to sort out.)
14Due to GOP sanctions relatedto Michigan’s state partymoving its primary to beforeSuper Tuesday, however, only14 of Romney’s estimated 21Michigan delegates will beable to vote. Likewise for Santorum: Only 12 of his MIdelegates can vote at the national convention.
$100,000Romney handily carried Michi-gan voters earning $100,000or more annually — takingthis influential demographicby a 14-point margin. On theother hand, Romney lost outamong voters making lessthan $100,000 and those whohave not attended college.
1,144In order to win the nomina-tion, a candidate will have tosecure 1,144 delegate votesby the August convention inTampa — a majority of thetotal 2,286 delegates. FoxNews estimates candidates’current delegate shares asfollows: Romney 209, Santo-rum 96, Newt Gingrich 32and Ron Paul 19.
3 to 1Democratic voters pulled thelever for Santorum in Michi-
gan by a 3-to-1 margin.Whether that was due to theSantorum camp’s controver-sial robocalls — in which theycalled Democrats, encourag-ing them to come out andvote against Romney and, ofcourse, for Santorum —remains unclear. Nearly 10percent of voters in the openprimary identified as Democ-rat, according to exit polls.
36%On Super Tuesday — nextTuesday, March 6, 2012 —voters in 10 states will handout 419 delegates to the Re-publican candidates, repre-senting more than a thirdneeded by any one candidateto secure the party’s nomina-tion. Georgia alone willaward 76, which NewtGingrich — of the perpetualcomeback and fall-back-downcontinuum — hopes to claim, having served as the state’sCongressman for 20 years.
Election by
the numbers
Mitt Romney wonthe day on Tues-day (followingSantorum’s sur-prise February
hat trick) with a pair of much-needed wins against his Re-publican primary opponents.
Or did he?In Arizona, at least, Rom-
ney carried the day, collectingall 35 delegates in the state’swinner-take-all contest. But inMichigan — the candidate’shome state, where his fatheronce governed and held an ex-ecutive position at local jobprovider AMC — the win wasmurkier. There, Romney pre-vailed by a slim 3 percent mar-gin, despite a significant mon-ey and ground advantage. Andaside from the theoretical ef-
fect of his win-mentum, thefact is that the pair will mostlysplit the state’s delegate votes.
So where does that leave us— and them? Pundits aremixed on whether the lack ofa delegate majority will force abrokered convention, but nextweek’s Super Tuesday mayclear that up. In the mean-time, we present some perti-nent stats below to help in-form your opinions.

2Davy Jones1945-2012 Monkees singer Davy Jonesdied of a massive heart attackyesterday at age 66. Knownfor his theatrical smile, little-boy good looks and cheerfuldemeanor on the group’s hitTV show, Jones was the onlyBrit in the band full of Ameri-cans. His accented delivery ofsuch hits as “Daydream Belie-ver” and “I Wanna Be Free”helped make the group a cud-dly commodity in the ’60s.Jones and the Monkeeswould enjoy two great burstsof success, initially in the late’60s and again in the mid-’80s, when MTV and othernetworks began re-airingoriginal “Monkees” episodes.Jones’ other notable contri-butions to pop cultureinclude pioneering thesashay dance that Axl Rosewould later become knownfor, a memorable cameo on a“Brady Bunch” episode andserving as the reason thatDavid Bowie (who was bornDavid Jones) took up a stagename. PAT HEALY
THE WORDMetro’s Dorothy Robinson shares her take on the world of gossip @dorothyatmetro [email protected]
Though she recently denied it,many news organizations arenow reporting that Nicole“Snooki” Polizzi is indeed threemonths pregnant with boy-friend Jionni LaValle’s baby. The“Jersey Shore” star is reportedlylooking to make the most ofthe announcement — and haseven brokered a deal for a coverstory with Us Weekly. Appar-ently, Snooki is looking to useher pregnancy to become “thenext Kourtney Kardashian,” asource tells Page Six. But reps atMTV aren’t as excited, sinceSnooki is currently filming a“Jersey Shore” spin-off chroni-
cling her hard-partying life-style. “MTV went into crisismode after they found out,” thesource says. “They’re trying tohide it because it would greatlyaffect the creative direction ofthe show.”
I laughed at this because, well, “creative direction” and“‘Jersey Shore’ spin-off” do notgo together. But then it makessense: MTV’s programming isfilled with a million bad parent-ing reality shows, from “TeenMom” to “16 and Pregnant.”Even they are probably loath toair a segment of Snooki takingher baby for her first spray tan.
Garner’s baby boy
Jennifer Garner gave birth to ason on Tuesday in Santa Moni-ca, Calif. Husband Ben Affleckposted on his Facebook pagethat they’re “happy toannounce” that “Jennifer gavebirth to a healthy baby boy,Samuel Garner Affleck.” It’sthe third child and first boyfor the couple, who also havedaughters Violet, 6, andSeraphina, 3. Garner previous-
ly said that they knew thegender of the baby ahead oftime but weren’t sharing thatinformation. “It would be soweird to have a boy,” she toldEllen DeGeneres during an in-terview last year.
Lohan’s ‘SNL’comebackLindsay Lohan is mountingher comeback, starting with astint hosting “Saturday NightLive” this week, and sheknows there’s a lot at stake. “Iwill not let anyone down, es-pecially myself,” she said inan interview with the “Today”
show, starkly contrasting herlast visit to the show, duringwhich she denied having anyproblems at all. “I wasn’t ascomfortable with myself
then. I think it was a fear fac-tor that I had about what wasreally going on. And, youknow, I had to get that wake-up call.”
Talking pointsHouston biopic in the works? Plans are reportedly alreadyunderway for a movie aboutWhitney Houston’s life, accor-ding to the Daily Mail. Produ-cer Clive Davis is behind theproject; and while JenniferHudson, Vivica Fox and JordinSparks may be on the list for
the lead role, Davis is said tohave his eye on Rihanna toplay Houston. And lest it seemlike Davis is trying to cash in onhis friend’s death, the film wasreportedly already being de-veloped before Houston diedlast month. A source says,“Whitney knew about the proj-ect and was excited to seewhere it would lead.”
Toni Braxton andEddie Murphy? Color us surprised: Toni Braxtonand Eddie Murphy are dating, per Us Weekly.
The singer, 44, and comic ac-tor, 50, “are seeing each otherand are very into it,” a sourcetells the magazine, adding thatthe romance started fourmonths ago.
Braxton’s rep insists “Toniand Eddie are just friends andhave been fans of each other’swork for a long time.” However, the insider says, “Their kids havemet. ... It’s getting very serious.”

Constructive couplingShe may be a matchmaker andthe star of reality show for Bra-vo, but Lori Zaslow is no PattiStanger, of the same cable chan-nel’s show “The MillionaireMatchmaker.” In fact, Zaslow isthe anti-Patti. Unlike the cattlecalls Stanger has on her ownshow, in which she herds agroup of women into an office, critiques their appearance andsends them to a mixer hosted byone millionaire looking for love,Zaslow takes a friendlier
approach.“I think we definitely have a
positive approach and that peo-ple love working with usbecause when you’re positive, people feel like they can openup,” Zaslow explains, addingthat her company will only doblind dates. Theclient never getsto choose theirmatch.
“I thinksometimespeople fall in-to old habits
and pick someone who visuallyis right, but they don’t knowanything about their insides,”Zaslow explains. “We spend somuch time with our clients —that’s really our passion, the an-alyzing. We get invigorated bylearning about people — whathas worked for you, what hasn’tworked.”
On her new show, “The LoveBroker,” Zaslow brings the cam-eras with her as she coaches herclients through the process ofdating in New York City — atown that’s caught plenty of
flack from Stanger, who oncesaid that women in NewYork should “dumb it downa little bit.” Zaslow is a bitmore optimistic about thestate of dating in her city.
“I love New York. I lovethe people here. I feel likemaybe it’s more of a chal-lenge than in other citiesbecause there are so manypeople,” she says. “That’swhy people come here tofind love and then move outof the city. People come hereto meet people. I think New
York’s known for that. Itshould be the Big Heart, notthe Big Apple.” METRO/HP

Piercing infantsakin to child abuseRE: “IF YOUR CHILD WANTS EARRINGS”: What if your childwants to drink beer, or wearinappropriate clothing? Somethings are decisions for adultsto make for themselves. Whywould any parent inflict painon an infant for such a frivo-lous purpose? To me, it ischild abuse to pierce a sweet, innocent baby’s ears. The fans have spoken. Themajority want Peyton Man-ning in Eagles green.
The message boards areabuzz, so too are talk radiolines. The common responseto whether the Birds shouldsign Manning is: Why not? Wegot nothing to lose.
Manning underwent threeprocedures on his injuredneck. The most recent, com-pleted on Sept. 8, was a one-level cervical neck fusion. Ba-sically, the surgeon removedthe herniated disc, which re-lieved the pressure on the
spine and nerves. Dr. Andrew Hecht, co-chief
of spine surgery at Mt. SinaiHospital in New York, has nev-er met Manning. But he hasperformed the one-level cervi-cal neck fusion procedure onseveral big-time athletes, in-cluding college-level quarter-backs.
“Athletes who have this op-eration, you have no increasedrisk by going back to sportsonce they are healed,” said Dr.Hecht, who is also a spine sur-gical consultant for the NewYork Jets. “If you look at allthe patients that have this sur-gery, they would return tocontact sports, almost withoutexception.”
Dr. Hecht was quick tostress that he is basing hisprognosis on his own experi-ences with the procedure. From what he’s read aboutManning’s situation, the QBhas been cleared to play.
“From a medical stand-point, he should be OK toplay,” Dr. Hecht said. “It’s Pey-ton Manning’s decision tomake.”

Friends sayPeyton playsCoaches aren’t allowed toobserve Manning untilApril, per the NFL’s newlabor agreement.
However, the Colts’medical staff is allowedsince he failed his exitphysical. Manning is duea $28 million option fromthe Colts by March 8. Orthey can cut him.
Manning’s teammate,Jeff Saturday, has been incontact with him.
“He’ll be playing foot-ball, I can assure youthat,” Saturday said. “Ihope it’s here, but he’llbe playing somewhere.”
METRO
Manning up: CouldPeyton be in play?
Colts QB generating buzz as March 8 approaches Medical expert thinks he should beready, says decision is up to Manning Would Birds swoop in? Idea not that far-fetched
Why it makes
sense for Birds
Eagles offensive line coachHoward Mudd served in thesame capacity for much ofManning’s tenure in Indy.Mike Vick has struggled attimes picking up Mudd’s sys-tem, especially making callsat the line of scrimmage.
Andy Reid comes under firefor his game-day coaching —from wasting timeouts, notdeviating from his “script,” tonot making halftime adjust-ments. Manning has alwaysrun flawless offenses andserves as coach on the field. He could shield Reid’s flaws.
If the Colts do indeed cutManning by March 8, the Eagles wouldn’t have to giveup anything to get him. There is the tricky thing offiguring out what to pay him— he’s due $28 million —but an aging QB coming offa very serious injury mightbe in the Birds’ budget.
Why it doesn’t
make sense
Eagles signed Mike Vick toa six-year, $100 million deallast August. While the teamcan opt out of the contractafter next season, the Birdswould eat a $7 million sign-ing bonus. And then they’deither have to find a tradingpartner or convince Vick tobe a backup. Good luck.
Reid has been drooling overNo. 7 since his days in At-lanta and now he has him inhis stable. It would be reallyhard to see Reid giving up onhis reclamation project. Afterall, Vick all but promisedBig Red a ring last season.
No one knows how healthyManning is, or if he can everbe the Super Bowl-winningQB he once was. It’s alreadybeen reported that Man-ning’s velocity is down andhe has been having troublethrowing to his left andacross his body. MIKE GREGER
Peyton Manning is far froma sure thing healthwise, but
the Eagles might be wiseto make a phone call.

DON’T BLOW IT
Seeking major upside fromunproven players is the wayto gain an edge in the middleand later rounds. Up front, wewant a sure thing.
Scary studs Matt Kemp is going No. 1 in aton of leagues, mostlybecause he was No. 1 playerby a wide margin last season.
Kemp is one year removedfrom a .249 average and 19steals. NL West is also a pitch-er-friendly division. Avoid.
Prince Fielder is scary becausehe got a $214 millioncontract, is changing leaguesand calls a pitcher’s parkhome. A letdown is possible.
We also have to be concernedwith players that have careerseasons at age 30. CurtisGranderson has been afavorite thanks to hispower/speed, but no oneshould expect 41 homers.
We can’t win our base-ball league with a first-round draft pick. Wecertainly can lose it.
Matt Kemp was the No. 1overall player last year.
2.1Average yards after contact for
Cedric Benson lastseason, tied for last inthe NFL. The Bengals areexpected to address theRB spot in the draft.
