    The Toplum Gnllleri (Community Volunteers)network has increased to 101 TOG Youthorganizations in communities and on universitycampuses in 66 cities of Turkey and Northern Cyprus.These youth organizations have voluntarily carried out local projects.

    The number of project volunteers has risen to 17,436 .

    Young Community Volunteers implemented 615 local,national and international projects that reached out to 187,989 people .

    863,219 volunteer hours were spent on theseactivities. The total value added to GNP by minimumwage per hour has been 9,211,974 TL (5,143,000 in $)

    TOG implemented12 TOG ATAK and12 local TOG ATAKprojects, in whichyoung TOGvolunteers fromdifferent regionsgather for 2-3 daysto completeprojects ondifferent issues.

    TOGs provided a variety of services includingrenovation of schools in disadvantaged districts,support for the disabled, health education programs,entrepreneurship training for youth, democracy andhuman rights trainings, reproductive health trainings,environment projects, campaigns and trainingsagainst discrimination, activities to raise awareness of disable rights, and creation of internship positions,scholarships and mentoring services for young people.

    Young Community Volunteers from TOGs localorganizations gather twice a year at the TOG YouthCouncil . They share their experiences and ideas for

    projects and shape the future of TOG. Every year theyelect their representatives to TOGs Board of Directors.The 19th TOG Youth Council took place in Gaziantepfrom February 2-5.

    30 more volunteer youth leaders mentored TOGyouth organizations in order to support project development and implementation. In total 229 fieldvisits were conducted during the first 6 months of 2012.

    TOG implemented 12 TOG ATAK and 12 local TOG ATAK projects, in which young TOG volunteers fromdifferent regions gather for 2-3 days to completeprojects on different issues such as coastal cleaning,school renovations, global warming, cultural heritage,human rights, environment, volunteerism and civilsociety. 6 TOG ATAK projects were supported by MaviJeans .

    TOG organized two workshops for peer educators: Democracy and Our Rights and Key Trainings. 49Community Volunteers began to conduct trainingson the field. 420 trainers and 3,619 youngparticipants were involved in 175 local andnational trainings . In total, 36,443 volunteer hours were generated in 1,488 training hours . Thesetrainings focused on Civil Society and Voluntary Work,Human Rights, Social Rights of young people, HealthLiteracy, Gender Equality, Reproductive Health, NeedAnalysis, Project Management, Training of coordinators and Team Work.

    TOG continues to give scholarships to 618 universitystudents in Turkey.

    TOG celebrated Alternative Youth Week from May

    10-25 with panels, workshops, concerts, and outdoorfestivals, all organised by young people themselves.This sought to counter the official youth week designed by public authorities, which is full of elements of nationalism, militarism and gerontocracy.

    Throughout the first half of 2012, Pink House YouthCenter and Pinhole Youth Center continued toorganize regular art, culture and foreign languageworkshops for youth and children. Besides the regularworkshops, there have been single-day trainings andactivities on topics like the environment andintercultural learning. Other youth have visitedcinemas, theatre plays and concerts with LeblebiCulture Art Project. Eurodesk Info Days wereorganized to promote the Youth in Action Program. Asthe spring term came to an end, youth enjoyed thePink House Youth Festival, If Istanbul Film Festivaland a traditional nature camp to close the term. Pink House has served approximately 150 youth andchildren during 6 months and touched more than 500

    people in the surrounding neighbourhoods. There hasalso been a basic reading and writing skills course for24 uneducated adult women and an art workshop for12 adult women. Pinhole has served approximately2000 youth during 6 months and touched more than400 people in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

    TOG and the stanbul Bilgi University Youth StudiesUnit cooperated to present Living Library , funded byTOGs own contribution, in February at Ghetto.Hosting its readers for two days (four hours for eachday), Living Library books have been borrowed 192times and reached 400 readers. In order to extendthe impact, Community Volunteers who want torealize Living Library at local level, are invited toorganization team. So they experienced Living Librarybefore realizing at local level.

    Bayer Young Science Ambassadors , a scientificliteracy project, has been implemented throughpartnership of TOG and Bayer. It supports the science

    education and scientific knowledge of both youngvolunteers age 17-25 and children age 10-12. Throughthe end of May 2012, 90 young science ambassadorsimplemented the project in 4 different cities (stanbul,Ankara, zmir and Kars).

    In 8 primary schools, 1037 children participated in two-day workshops with enjoyable experiments on naturalscience. The project evaluation results showed that Bayer Science Ambassadors was planned andimplemented in a way that led to an increased curiosity

    and interest in science, increased scientific knowledgeand practice, and a significant change in perception of science, scientific practice and scientists in its target groups.

    95 Community Volunteers in 7 TOG organizations inBandrma (Balkesir), Erzurum, zmir, Kilis, and Trabzonhave implemented the White Hats Project in 7 schoolswith the parnership of Janssen Turkey. Approximately1200 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th graders participated. After an

    Istanbul training in mid-March was attended by 20Community Youth Volunteers from 5 provinces, localworkshops occured in 5 provinces. From mid-April untilthe end of May, a 6 week workshop on peace, injustice,discrimination, society and gender, communication andcivic responsibilities was conducted in the schools. Thefirst phase of the project ended with festivals in 6schools in 5 provinces. Studies have begun on a peace-themed board game to be used in the second phase.

    YouthBank project , aimed at increasing the local civicparticipation of disadvantaged young people between 16and 25, continues with the support of Mott Foundation.Six teams (40 people in Batman, Artvin/Arhavi,Samsun/Atakum, zmir/Seluk, stanbul/Kavack and stanbul/Eyp) began their projects in January 2012with an introductory training. These YouthBank teamsreceived 72 project applications, and will support theapproved projects. International activities continue incooperation with Belgian Government and EurasiaPartnership Foundation. In April 2012 a group of fiveYouthBank members visited Armenian YouthBanks.

    In the first half of 2012, TOG and the stanbul BilgiUniversity Youth Studies implemented Status of YouthParticipation, begun by TOG in 2011 and funded by theBritish Council and The Black Sea Trust for RegionalCooperation. The project enhances youth participation inthe legislation process. 42 young people attendedworkshops led by experts from Turkish Parliament Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commissions andConstitution Reconciliation Commissions. After the

    workshops, young people prepared formal questions forthe deputies, which were raised during the Youth Week in May.

    YouthBank project , aimed at increasing thelocal civicparticipation of disadvantagedyoung peoplebetween 16 and

    25, continueswith the support of Mott Foundation.

    The young community volunteers ended by visiting theTurkish Parliamentary Education, Culture, Youth andSports Commission. A version of the manual NGOparticipation in the legislative process was published

    for youth. TOG sent a position paper on the status of youth in the

    current constitution to 300 individuals and institutions.TOG provided the Youth and Sports Ministry with youthpolicy recommendations on a draft of National Youthand Sport Policy Paper. TOGs representative alsoraised these policy recommendations at the SecondYouth Council held by the Youth and Sports Ministry. 13different youth groups signed a position paper TOG sent to the the Youth and Sports Ministry regarding to thenew single sex group practices in Ministry youth camps.

    TOG and the stanbul Bilgi University Youth Studies Unit researched the freedom of association and expression inorder to make policy recommendations. The quantitativeresearch was supported by GFK Trkiye, and thequalitative by Demet Lksl.

    TOG continues to be at the Advisory Council on Youthof the Council of Europe .

    TOG became a full member of the Youth for Exchangeand Understanding International network.

    The international training course Peace initiatives forjustice. Manage the CHANGE! took place in Istanbulfrom 17 to 24 February 2012 to promote non-violent actions, develop peace initiatives, and facilitate anetwork of youth workers and leaders. 25 young peoplefrom Denmark, Spain, Poland, Turkey, RussianFederation, Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan

    participated. The project was financed by TurkishNational Agency and developed and implemented byTOG with assistance from the DRONI youth associationfrom Georgia.

    TOG participates in a bilateral exchange of two youthworkers with Youth for Exchange and UnderstandingInternational called Youth workers in C.U.I.S.I.N.E:Combating Unemployment, Increasing SocialInclusion and Networking in youth field.

    TOG continues tobe at theAdvisory Councilon Youth of theCouncil of Europe.

    Volunteers andits projects.

    TOG is the partner youth organization from Turkey for aproject called Strengthening the Black Sea RegionYouth Cooperation in Youth Policy. National YouthCouncils and public institutions from 9 Black Seacountries (Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Russian

    Federation, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romnia,Bulgaria and Turkey) will create a common vision foryouth policy development in the Black Sea Region byevaluating the youth policy sector. They will exchangeexperiences between the youth organization and publicinstitutions to increase regional cooperation.

    Between January and June 2012, 1531 news items were published about Community Volunteers and itsprojects: 404 in print media, 51 in visual media, and1076 in electronic media . The activities of theCommunity Volunteers were also shared with thecommunity through radio and TV.

    Heartfelt Conversations were arranged by theCommunity Volunteers and Yap Kredi Crystal Card tosupport youth social responsibility projects of theyouth. Heartfelt Conversations hosted manyimportant guests in the between January and June 2012.

    Community Volunteers organized the sixth TOG BAZAR

    in 2012 with the participation 104 brands and morethan 2000 people in Ortaky Esma Sultan Palace. TOGBAZAR was sponsored by Assos, Ege Yap Group, Rasennaat ve La Maison des Fleurs, and undertaken byvolunteers. 444.325TL was raised.

    Through the "Young People in Community Service" campaign, begun in 2005, 20 associations supported theprojects of Community Volunteers with regular monthlycontributions.

    The Adm Adm Initiative is a non-governmentalorganization that facilitates charitable donationsthrough sports activities. On 4 March 2012, 38 runnersran the Runtalya Marathon, collected contributionsfrom 457 donors and raised 101.803 TL.

    In 2010, TOG started the Personal Support CampaignGenlere Deer (Valuing Youth) to provide analternative social and life-long learning network foryouth and to support their individual development.

    Individual contributors in this campaign make adifference in life of a young person with 280 TL in ayear. In the first and second quarter of 2012, 258 youngpeople were supported by the Genlere DeerCampaign.
