2011-2012 SCHOLARSHIP EXPENSESChampionships start with scholarships.In order to compete nationally, The University of Tennessee must ensure the top in-state recruits are choosing to play for the Volunteers, while also attracting the top national recruits. Tuition & Fees for out-of-state student-athletes cost $17,142 more annually than in-state student-athletes. With scholarship costs rising nationally, it is imperative that the Tennessee Fund increases both memberships and gifts to cover these costs. Every donor and every dollar counts toward making the student-athlete dream a reality. Consider increasing your gift or referring a friend to the Tennessee Fund.

ANNUAL STUDENT-ATHLETE EXPENSESEach year The Tennessee Fund strives to not only support growing scholarship costs, but fund the complete student-athlete experience. As tuition costs continue to increase and the cost of doing business rises, your support is more important than ever. By factoring in other direct expenses such as travel, academic support and sports medicine, the complete student-athlete package reaches over $59,000 annually. These student-athlete expenses add up, as UT supports over 500 student-athletes across 20 sports. NEW GUIDELINES FOR 2012 HOW IT WORKSThe University of Tennessee’s commitment to excellence in athletics has placed an unprecedented demand for ticket and parking benefits. In order to fairly allocate those benefits, a system is in place to reward supporters of the program since it is their generosity that helps create champions and successful student-athletes who represent the university.

Those who support the athletic department on campus through generous donations to the Tennessee Fund are given the opportunity to purchase athletic benefits each year. In the past, separate gifts to men’s athletics, women’s athletics, or academic programs on campus determined the benefits eligible for purchase. However, moving forward, one gift to the Tennessee Fund enables donors to purchase season tickets to ALL men’s and women’s sporting events.

AWAY GAME TICKETSAs a benefit of membership Tennessee Fund donors receive first priority for away game tickets.

Demand for some games will exceed demand for others, thus varying the number of donors able to receive tickets for each game. Away game ticket quantities are determined by giving category and assigned to a seat location according to rank. The amount of tickets eligible for purchase for each game is indicated on the season ticket application. Donors who qualify and would like to pre-order away game tickets should do so when renewing season tickets. However, donors may be refunded if the demand for tickets exceeds the supply.

**Chick-fil-A Kickoff game in the Georgia Dome: Although there is no limit to the number of tickets you may request, requests will be filled in accordance with existing Tennessee Fund donor category and rank. We will attempt to fill all requests; however, in the event demand for tickets for this game exceeds our supply, it may be necessary to reduce and/or cancel orders. Donors will be sent an application in the spring which will provide the price range for the different seating options available based upon rank and donors will be charged within this range for tickets to this game.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SEASON TICKET GUIDELINESTennessee Fund members are given the opportunity to purchase Lady Vol season basketball tickets. Season tickets are assigned based on annual giving level and the priority point system. Those interested in improving their location can submit a request to the Tennessee Fund office. All requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in accordance with the point system.

Seating & Donation AmountsSeason tickets in the 100 or 200 level for Lady Vol basketball require a minimum $200 donation per pair for new Tennessee Fund members or existing members interested in additional tickets. Locations are determined by annual giving level and priority point rank and subject to availability. Please call the Tennessee Fund office for specific availability.

ParkingSeason parking passes for Lady Vol basketball are sold to donors based on the priority points system and are reas-signed each year. Tennessee Fund donors must purchase season tickets to qualify.

SEC Tournament/NCAA TournamentDonors to the Tennessee Fund also receive the opportunity to purchase post-season tournament tickets. The number of post-season tickets the Athletic Department receives is determined by the host site which makes it difficult to predict if we can fulfill all requests. Mailing InformationSeason tickets are shipped separately from individual and away game tickets. They will NOT arrive in the same package. Season tickets are shipped by carrier service and require a street address. Please confirm your address at the time of placing your order for tickets, as it is not possible to change addresses once the tickets are printed. Change of address must be submitted in writing to the Tennessee Fund office. A change of address form can be found on the utsports.com website.

Lost, Stolen or Destroyed TicketsThe UTAD is NOT responsible for lost, stolen or destroyed tickets. If you purchase tickets directly from the University of Tennessee and they are lost, stolen or destroyed, contact the Ticket Office for replacement options.

Handicapped SeatingThe University of Tennessee is proud to offer seating for individuals in wheelchairs, available on a season and individual game basis. Please contact the UT Athletic Ticket Office at (865) 656-1200 or (800) 332-8657 for further information. Seating is limited so please make arrangements early. For patrons needing an elevator pass due to accessibility needs, please contact Event Management at (865) 974-1205.

Ticket PaymentPayment must be made by check, VISA, MasterCard or Discover. Checks should be made payable to The University of Tennessee. Payment must be made by applicant or spouse. No second-party payments will be accepted. Cash will be accepted only from the person whose name appears on the application and an ID will be required.

Charge by Phone or OnlineOrders for available individual game tickets may be made using VISA, MasterCard or Discover. All orders placed the week of the game will not be mailed, but held for pickup at the ticket office or digitally sent via email to be printed by purchaser and brought to gate for admittance. GENERAL TICKET INFORMATION PRIORITY POINT SYSTEMQ: What is the “point system”?A: The Tennessee Fund uses a priority point system to help fairly allocate donor benefits. Donors receive points based upon the consecutive number of years that they have given to the Tennessee Fund, as well as for the total cumulative contributions that they have made. This system seeks to reward both a donor’s longevity and gift amount when establishing priorities. With the point total, the Tennessee Fund can “rank” all donors regardless of giving category.

Q: How are points allocated?A: Points are allocated as follows:

1 pt. Awarded for each $100 donated to theTennesseeFund*since1986

1 pt. Awarded for each $100 donated to Capital/Endowment funds since 1986

1 pt. Awarded for each $1,000 in new annual money raised by a Vol Rep

5 pts. Awarded for each consecutive year of giving to the Tennessee Fund since 1986

10 pts. Awarded for UT Alumni (one time award per account)

50 pts. Awarded for UT letterman (one time award per account)

50 pts. Awarded for gifts given prior to 1986 (one time award)

50 pts. Awarded for 20 consecutive years of giving (one time award)

Academic supporters who previously received athletic benefits were converted to the Tennessee Fund in 2010. They were given a one-time point award for those gifts based on a similar scale. Moving forward, gifts must be made directly to the Tennessee Fund in order to improve point total and rank.

The Tennessee Fund ranks donors four times yearly. The donor with the most accumulated points is ranked number 1, the next highest point total is ranked number 2 and so on. Consecutive years of giving points are withdrawn from a donor account if membership is not renewed annually. Regardless of rank, a donor’s annual gift must be made in order to receive the opportunity to purchase or renew priority tickets or parking.

Q: How is the point system used?

A: The point system is used by the Tennessee Fund in the following ways:

Season Football and Basketball Ticket Assignments and ImprovementsUsing this system, the Tennessee Fund starts with the top annual giving category (Nathan Dougherty Society) and reviews all requests from those that purchase season tickets in this category in rank order. After all the requests in this category have been processed, the Tennessee Fund then reviews all requests from those that purchase season tickets in the next annual giving category in rank

order. This process continues through all the giving categories until all of the available tickets have been assigned. Beginning two weeks after each deadline the relocation process will begin.

The point system is used to prioritize between donors who are in the same giving category when season ticket requests are reviewed. Thus, a $5,000 donor with an overall rank of 4000 would be reviewed after a $5000 donor with a rank of 1000.

Once a donor has established season ticket priority, this individual must then maintain the same giving level or higher on an annual basis to retain their season ticket location. If a ticket holder wishes to improve a seating location they must be an active Tennessee Fund donor and will be notified of opportunities to do so via their email account. It is very important that our donors keep their email addresses updated with our office so we can send out the communication electronically that will allow donors to review their seat opportunities using our online virtual seat maps of Neyland Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena.

Football and Basketball Parking Pass AssignmentsThe Tennessee Fund uses donor rank, as determined by the point system, to assign

football and men’s basketball parking passes for donors in the Mountaineer annual giving category ($2,500-$4,999) and below. Tennessee Fund donors at the Bronze Victor level ($5,000-$9,999) and higher are assigned football parking according to their donor rank, as determined by the point system, and in a predetermined zone if their rank does not qualify them for their choice of parking. Women’s basketball parking is assigned in rank order for lots near Thompson-Boling Arena. All football and men’s basketball parking locations are reassigned each year and donors must purchase season tickets to be eligible. (See pages 17 & 18 for specific information on parking).

Away Football Games, SEC Postseason Games / Tournaments, and Bowl Game Ticket AssignmentsThe Tennessee Fund uses donor rank, as determined by the point system, in two ways when managing the assignment of away football games, SEC postseason games / tournaments, and bowl tickets. The primary factor in determining the quantity of tickets that a donor is eligible for is the donor’s annual giving category. Once it has been determined who will receive tickets to these games, the actual ticket locations are assigned strictly in donor rank order.



Premium seating at the University of Tennessee is a great way to take a leadership role in support of the Vols while receiving some of the best seats in one of the following venues: Neyland Stadium, Thompson-Boling Arena, Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, and Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee TerraceTennessee football fans have the opportunity to be a part of the new Tennessee Terrace seating which opened in 2010. Tennessee Terrace is located in the former west upper deck of Neyland Stadium (Sections RR-WW) and features new chair back seating with a sideline view of all the action. An adjoining indoor concourse offers an expanded concession menu, restrooms, and

*Each year donors must resubmit the account information needed by the Tennessee Fund office to continue the bank draft.

*To stop the bank draft option, please submit a letter in writing to the Tennessee Fund office notifying us of your decision. Donors will be expected to fulfill any outstanding balance at that time.

*If your account shows insufficient funds 3 times during any point of your Tennessee Fund membership, your ability to use bank draft as a payment option will be stopped.

Matching GiftsMany companies will match your gifts to The University of Tennessee. Please consult the benefits office at your place of employment. You may be able to double or triple the value of your gift and benefits. Your initial gift and matching form must be in by March 1, but the matching gift may be completed throughout the year.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE (METHODS OF SUPPORT)There are several ways to become a donor to the Tennessee Fund.

Here are just a few of the ways to support the Vols and Lady Vols:

Many companies are not matching gifts if the donor receives any benefit as a result of the gift. Please check with the Tennes-see Fund and the matching company to be sure that the matching gift can be used for donor benefits. If the company chooses to stop matching a donor’s gift, the donor is responsible for the entire annual contribu-tion to maintain the same benefits.

Gifts of Real Property and SecuritiesGifts of real property and securities are welcomed and may provide significant tax advantages. Appreciated stocks can be transferred electronically which, in many circumstances, can enable donors to realize significant capital gains tax savings while helping the Tennessee Fund provide essential scholarship support. Benefits for these gifts must be evaluated on an individual case basis.

Estate GiftsGifts through wills and bequests can provide you with benefits and the opportu-nity to sustain your family name through endowed scholarships with The University of Tennessee Athletic Department. Estate gifts can be made with a designated amount, a real asset, or a residual bequest. Consult your attorney. The Tennessee Fund can provide the appropriate wording for

inclusion in your planning. Benefits for these gifts must be evaluated on an individual case basis.

EndowmentsTo provide funding for future Vol and Lady Vol student-athletes, endowments are essential. The opportunity to fully endow a scholarship with the Volunteers exists at the $250,000 level and entitles you to membership in the Nathan Dougherty Society. These gifts can be made over a 10-year period in equal installments. The Tennessee Fund office will provide the appropriate agreements to complete the gift. Benefits for these gifts must be evaluated on an individual case basis.

Life Income GiftsCharitable remainder trusts can provide current tax advantages while providing the donor with income for a designated period of time or life. They provide the Athletic Department with an endowed scholarship or operating fund gift upon the completion of the trust or donor’s death. You also are encouraged to consult your tax advisor. Benefits for these gifts must be evaluated on an individual case basis.

Under applicable provisions of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), the amount of a contribution that is deductible for federal income tax purposes is limited to the excess of the amount contributed over the value of any goods or services provided to the donor by the University. The Athletic Department will notify you as to the value of any such items. Under current IRC provisions, no more than 80 percent of an amount paid to or for the benefit of an institution of higher education may be treated as a charitable contribution if, as a result of the payment, the donor receives the right to purchase tickets for seating at an athletic event in an athletic stadium at the institution. You should consult your tax advisor to determine whether these provisions apply to you. If you choose to waive all applicable benefits, you must sign a written waiver at the time you make your Tennessee Fund donation.

“Playing By The Rules”NCAA ComplianceThe athletic programs of this University are governed by the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”) and the Southeastern Conference (“SEC”). Current NCAA regulations require that, if you, as a donor to the University of Tennessee athletic program or any person directly or indirectly related or affiliated with you, violate any of the rules and regulations of the NCAA or SEC, the University must disassociate itself from you and any future University related benefits or privileges available to you will be terminated. Each year over 300 active Tennessee Fund members volunteer their time and efforts to serve as Volunteer Representa-tives in their respective communities. Vol Reps play a key role in advancing Tennessee Athletics in the following ways:

By helping to promote UT Athletics, Vol Reps are able to develop relationships with Tennessee Athletic Department staff members, earn additional Tennessee Fund priority points to improve their donor rank, and achieve various Vol Rep Rewards based upon the amount of new money they help raise.

The Vol Rep system is divided into 13 districts by geographic region. Each district is led by a District Chair and

assisted by a County Chair for each county in that district. These chairs help coordinate communication and events for all Vol Reps, Tennessee Fund donors, and UT fans in their area.

Q: Is my contribution to the Tennessee Fund tax-deductible?A: Yes, the Internal Revenue Service allows a full deduction on contributions where there is no tangible or intangible benefit to the donor. Otherwise an 80% deduction is allowed when a benefit is received. Contact your financial advisor for detailed information.

Q: How is my gift to the Tennessee Fund used? A: Your gift to the Tennessee Fund is used for student-athlete scholarship costs, facility upkeep, and general operating budget needs. With over 500 student-athletes on campus, the role the Tennessee Fund plays is critical in the success of the program.

Q: How many members are there in the Tennessee Fund?A: There are over 13,000 active Tennessee Fund members.

Q: Who can join the Tennessee Fund?A: All Tennessee fans are encouraged to join the Tennessee Fund. You do not have to be a former student-athlete or alum of The University of Tennessee to join.

Q: Does my Tennessee Fund donation qualify me for both football and basketball season tickets?A: The cumulative annual donation qualifies you for season tickets to both football and men’s/women’s basketball. The gift amount corresponds to seating locations that each donor is eligible for based upon giving level and availability.

Q: What is the minimum gift required to get season football tickets?A: Each year due to normal attrition approximately 2,000 tickets become available to meet the ticket requests of existing and new Tennessee Fund donors. In May, once all ticket applications have been returned, the ticket office is able to assess how many tickets are available for new Tennessee Fund members. We then fill all orders starting at the highest annual giving category and moving downward. Last year anyone who made a gift of at least $100 by March 1st was given the priority to purchase a pair of renewable season tickets.

Q: Why is it necessary to become a donor in order to receive season tickets?A: Demand for benefits such as tickets and parking passes created the need for

a fair system to be established in which these benefits could be distributed fairly. The Tennessee Fund was created in part, to help address the needs of our growing donor base. The donor priority system allows us to track support and award benefits as a way to say thank you for the support. The athletic department is 100% self-funded without financial support from tax or tuition derived dollars.

Q: How are season tickets assigned or how can I improve my current season tickets?A: Once a donor has established season ticket priority, this individual must then maintain the same giving level or higher on an annual basis to retain their season ticket location. If a ticket holder wishes to improve a seating location they must be an active Tennessee Fund donor and will notified of opportunities to do so via their email account. It is very important that our donors keep their email addresses updated with our office so we can send out the communication electronically that will allow donors to review their seat opportunities using our online virtual seat maps of Neyland Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena.

Q: I am a $1,000 donor with a Tennessee Fund rank of 2800 and season tickets in section X2. My friend is a $2,500 donor with a Tennessee Fund rank of 5000. She is purchasing season tickets for the first time. Who would have their ticket request reviewed first? If I wanted to move my tickets to sections R or W, would this be possible?A: Based on her higher annual giving level, your friend would have her ticket request reviewed first. However, if you chose to increase your annual giving level by March 1, your request would be reviewed first because of your higher point ranking.

More than likely we could not change your tickets unless you increased your giving level. Based on last year’s requirements, the last person who received tickets in sections R or W was a $2,500 annual donor.

Q: My friend tells me that his season football tickets are grandfathered. What does this mean?A: The Tennessee Fund was founded in 1986. Anyone who was already

purchasing season tickets at that time was not required to make an annual Tennessee Fund gift to retain these tickets. Beginning with the 2006 season, grandfathered season ticket holders on the sidelines were given the opportunity to begin making a donation at a reduced rate or move their seating location to the end zones and have those remain grandfathered. Grandfathered tickets still remain in the upper and lower level endzones at Neyland Stadium.

Q: Why does my friend not have to give as much as me, yet he has better seats than I do?A: This is a way in which the Tennessee Fund rewards loyalty from its long-time donors. The demand for the best seats in Neyland Stadium has increased over time, thus the minimum donation for these seat locations has also increased. If an individual entered the Tennessee Fund and received the opportunity to purchase a pair of tickets for a gift of $500, they feasibly could now have priority for tickets that would require a donation of $2,500 for a new person entering the Tennessee Fund in 2012.

Q: Once I have priority football or basketball season tickets, how do I keep them?A: The annual Tennessee Fund gift level you made when you obtained your specific seat location is the ongoing “baseline” to retain the the same location. The current policy is that as long as you continue to maintain the same annual gift, you will maintain the priority to purchase your tickets.
