IT Proactive in Seeking Education & Vendor Advice
“The need for on-going technical education as the market evolves increases
with each new technology plateau. You need to have
greater depth of knowledge to make informed buying
decisions than was necessary only a handful of
years ago.”
– President, High Tech Utility
“I find myself spending more time
with our vendors, reading analyses and discussing these new technologies and how
that will affect our future IT initiatives.”
– IT Manager, Non-Profit
“While I was formerly focused upon infrastructure
innovation, today I actively seek consumer facing technologies to reduce our costs and
increase productivity.”
– IT Manager, Hospitality
“My role is less reactive now, and has become more
proactive in strategizing
deployment and integration of new IT
initiatives.”

Q. How is your role evolving as a result of emerging models and technologies like BYOD, cloud, and Big Data?
Conclusion
While IT budgets show a level of cautious optimism, IT’s role continues to be
relevant as seen in alignment of business and technology objectives.
In response to the emergence of new IT models and technologies, IT expects
to see their staff increase to meet these demands in the next 3 years.
While the network and data center are becoming more streamlined, trends
such as BYOD are pushing IT to think beyond infrastructure to the end point
consumer.
Emerging technologies are driving the need for more education and stronger
vendor relationships.
Only Network World provides access to the IT decision makers who are
at the forefront of driving IT innovation and enabling business
objectives.
