2012 Preparing tomorrow’s engineers In 2011, Pragma launched its first official University Student Vacation Training Program. The three week program is specifically aimed at B.Eng (Ind., Mech., Elec.) students in their third year of studies. Pragma views engagement with engineering students as very important. Over the last number of years, the company established itself as an employer of choice, especially for Industrial Engineers. Pragma were voted the Building, Construction and Engineering industry category winner in Deloitte’s Best Company to Work for Survey in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The program is presented in collaboration with the Asset Care Research Group (ACRG) headed up by Dr. P.J. Vlok, who is also a part-time lecturer at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Stellenbosch. This partnership assists Pragma to build on and enhance their current service offering to the industry. The content of the program ensures that the students are introduced to the concepts of physical asset management and Pragma’s service offering. Included is exposure to the work of an Asset Care Engineer at a Pragma client. The student also have the priviledge to be part of various coaching and mentoring sessions with Pragma’s senior management team in order to provide them with a few valuable life and career lessons right at the start of their careers. The class of 2011 gave the program a rating of 86%, all agreeing that the program had a big impact on their professional and personal lives. They specifically gave a 94% rating for the level of growth they have experienced with regards to their field of study and their understanding of the fields of industrial engineering and physical asset management as a whole.
