NISSWA — The Nisswa Area Wom-en of Today will kick off the 2012 Nisswa Winter Jubilee by hosting the 2012 Miss Nisswa Scholarship Pag-eant on Feb. 17 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. The event be-gins at 7 p.m. and will culminate when the reining Miss Nisswa, Rachel How-ard, crowns one of seven local seniors as the area’s newest royalty. Tickets to the pageant are $5 at the door. The fi rst pageant was in 1973, and with that celebration of 40 years we are inviting all Past Miss Nisswa to attend this years evening Pageant and partici-pate in the Jubilee Parade on Saturday at noon. Saturday morning there will be a pancake breakfast at the Nisswa Community Center sponsored by the Nisswa Women of Today and Schae-fer’s Foods starting at 8:30.

Miss Nisswa candidates include:

• Mackayla Headlee, daughter of Angela and Todd Headlee.

• Stephanie Eckardt, daughter of Kurt Eckardt and Sharon Eckardt.

• LaChele Edevold, daughter of Sta-cy and Khaled Aldin.

• Claire Erholtz, daughter of Stacy and Michael Erholtz.

• Maren Goff, daughter of Beverly and Patrick Goff.

• Hannah Guin, daughter of Lori and Mike Guin.

• Megan Lehman, daughter of Sue and Brian Lehman.

Three judges will review each con-testant’s essays before the pageant, as well as conduct an initial one-on-one interview with them. At the event, the Miss Nisswa contestants will be judged on presences in both casual wear and formal wear, as well as to their answers to an impromptu question.

The Scholarship Pageant will in-clude dance performances by both the Miss Nisswa and Little Miss Nisswa contestants. Little Miss Nisswa Syd-ney Dorion will crown the 21st Little Miss in a non-competitive segment of the pageant. This year there are 14 second graders. Mistress of Ceremony will be Stacey Waidelich, a member of the Nisswa Area Women of Today. Sue Jewell will play the piano. Escorts for the contestants will be Abe Tuomi, Jimmy Giese and Nick Welch. Host and hostesses for the 2012 Scholarship Pageant will be Joe and Lynn Howard and Cam and Pam Dorion. The fi rst appearance of the 2012 Miss Nisswa, Little Miss and all the contes-tants will be during the Nisswa Win-ter Jubilee parade at noon on Feb. 18. Dozens of other Winter Jubilee activi-ties are also planned. The Miss Nisswa Scholarship Pag-eant provides generous prizes to all participants, thanks to the support of area businesses and individual spon-

sors. Miss Nisswa will receive $2,000 Scholarship, and many gifts. Nisswa Princess will receive $1,400 Scholar-ship, and 2nd Princess will receive $1,100 Scholarship. Miss Congenial-ity will receive $300 and gifts. Essay and Interview winners each receive $250. There will also be gifts for the Little Miss participants. The members of Nisswa Area Wom-en of Today contribute to their com-munity by raising funds for worthy causes and providing services or edu-cation to benefi t community members. They develop and foster skills and tal-ents related to becoming successful individuals, interacting well with other people and becoming capable leaders, while developing friendships and fi nd-ing personal support within the orga-nization. The group usually meets the fi rst Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Nisswa Community Cen-ter, though meeting locations do some-times vary. To become a member, call Stacey Waidelich at (218) 821-1650.
